Advertising

1. Flyers will be distributed around town at various locations.  The flyers will include details of the event and general TBAG information.  Places where flyers will be posted include:
· Confederation College · Lakehead University · Various High Schools (List to come) · Safeway Grocery Stores   · A&P Grocery Stores · Canada Games Sports Complex · Community Centers · Seattle Coffee Shops

2. Newspaper PSA’s might be possible through the Chronicle Journal and any other existing local papers.  Announcement would advertise the free group and the Astronomy Day Events.  Also, the location at which the event is being held may be interested in taking out their own newspaper advertisement in order to boost business on that particular day.

3. The Source Magazine may be interest in doing a feature on TBAG and would include information on the upcoming event, or, at least they might do an announcement foretelling the Astronomy Day plans.

4. Our friends at Magic 99 fm will most likely be kind enough to make a few PSA’s in the time leading up to Astronomy day.  If we get really lucky, and with a lot of persuasion, we might just manage to wrangle a radio remote out of them for an hour or two.  Failing any of that, other radio stations might be willing to take up the offer.  An interview on CBC radio is also a strong possibility.

5. Of course, we will be keeping the yahoo message board updated with all the details of Astronomy Day for all members and curious passers by to read.  This will also be one of our main platforms for planning the events
with other members.

6. The website will also be continuously updated with news and information on the event and, in the months leading up to the event, there will be at least 3 or 4 pages designated purely to the planning of the day.  Hopefully, networking with RASC and TBO will mean coverage of the event on their websites too.

7. Any College and University publication that are going around might also be kind enough to include us on their pages.  More research will have to be done as to what is actually going around the campus.

8. There is a strong possibility that a representative of TBAG may get invited onto a cable TV public service show.  The details to this are very sketchy right now and need lots of work before anything can be considered definite.  However, I have been informed that a Community Bulletin Board is freely available with up to 150 words possible.

9. Communities surrounding Thunder Bay will most definitely not have any Astronomy Day celebrations of their own but that’s not to say that there isn’t an interest out there.  Advertising in those communities may prove to be successful as there will most likely be people who are willing to drive into the city to take advantage of this once a year occasion.

10. Word of mouth will be one of the biggest assets to advertising the Thunder Bay Astronomy Group and Astronomy Day.  This will naturally develop from all the flyers and other means of advertising that we will be undertaking, but the best push from word of mouth will come mainly from fellow astronomers and other TBAG members

11. LSPC Broadcast Service is another option, but one that doesn’t come without cost involved.  Although I don’t have exact details, I have been told that the cost is around $75.  In return, an information flyer is faxed out overnight to pretty much all businesses, organizations and other establishments across the whole of Thunder Bay.
