Gab-Fests
A gab-fest is when a group of people get together at a fixed location and share stories, information and news on related topics.  Our gab-fests are held ever first Friday of each month at Tim Hortons on Memorial Avenue, between Swiss Chalet and Roxies Night Club
All are welcome to stop by at our little get togethers and can stay for a quick coffee or for the whole duration (no fixed time!) These socials are totally informal and are a great way to get to know fellow astronomers and to learn and share knowledge.  We encourage people to bring their own books, magazines, lap-tops and any other 'astro-toys' that they wish to show off.  Hope to see you there :)

A new member decided to grace us with her presence today after hearing about us from the story in the Chronical Journal.  Welcome to the group Andrea and we hope to get some clear sky observing in with you soon.  We chatted about various astronomy related topics as well as lots of non-related stuff!! It was fun and lasted for about 2 1/2 hours! (I think that was the longest one yet!) I hope that more turn out like that in the future.

Not much of a turn out for this weeks' gab-fest.  We played around with the lap-top and a new slide show of astro pics I had downloaded for the screensaver.  Also made some notes for the interview with C.B.C for this coming Monday (7th) We hope to see more people at the next gab-fest in July though, and look forward to discussing with new members and old, topics such as Astronomy Day and the 'Challenge The High Schools' project.

Our biggest and best gab-fest yet!  The whole of 6 members showed up for this months get together, including Leon, Jen, Rob, Dave, Arnold and Steph. Goodies that showed up with us included 2 laptops, about a dozen books and mags, and Rob's newly renovated scope!  We had a little play with it to try and better align and collumate it and then stuck his sun filter on and tried it out...  my eyes are still a little watery and we concluded that he should stick to using the Mylar tape I provided him with!  All in all it was a very interesting, educational and fun filled evening... can't hadly wait until the next one now!

Yet another good turnout for this months gab-fest. Rob, Leon, Jen, Arnold and Staph were present.  Pretty easy going topics this month from Star Trek Conventions to flyer drop off points.  Leon showed off his latest slide show with pictures taken from APOD and other sources and Rob attempted to develop a better astro photography system with his T-ring device.  After all was said and done, we decided to take advantage of a reasonably descent night and all headed up to Hillcrest Park for a spot of viewing and some more photography attempts.  We also possible picked up a new member at Hillcrest named Tom... we'll see!
October 1st 2004
Present were myself, Rob and Leo Oja.  Ted Bronson from RASC was also there with is wife enjoying a Timmies Bevy!  Quite a productive gab as far as though go!  We discussed in detail, the high school project and alos had a look at Leo's C90 Celestron.  I will give it a little clean and a trial run in a few days but it looks like it should do the job quite nicely!  Ted offered his expert advise on the high school project and offered his services in developing the first presentation due some time in November... an offer which I will most definately take!! :)
November 5th 2004
Leon, Jen, Rob, Ted, Andrea, Lesley and very breifly, Steph were present at this months gab-fest We had a ton of fun with various topics from the ever illusive Coat Hanger constellation to astronomy day and high school presentations, design and construction of telescopes, optic physics and moving one eyeball at a time!! (don't ask!) Needless to say we acheived a lot of stuff whilst enjoy some great company and not bad coffee too! Now that we have some more ideas for the school presentation we will begin work on them and start developing a solid platform to work from.
Thanks to ted for his expert advice on optics :)
