There were events planned for everyone. The Beavers, their Leaders and parents came out to camp for a picnic lunch on Saturday, and participated in events that were organized by John and Cory. The Cubs completed the requirements for the Canadian Heritage Badge, as directed by Lumberman and Qweak-boy (and assisted by John, mainly the stuff in French.) The Scouts and Venturers were entertained for the weekend by Miller and Ryan. Flynno and Peter helped out by running programme for the adults (Leaders, visitors, alumni, and Group Committee.)
Food was excellently prepared by all of
the Rovers, and organized by Ian. The menu consisted of such delicacies
as pancakes, cereal, spaghetti, hot dogs, and other stuff.
On Saturday night, a campfire was held
on Campfire Hill, where each section (including Group Committee!) performed
a song or skit. The Group Chaplain, Rev. Ross Rutliffe presented the Scouter's
Five, and blessed the Thunderbird Rover Scout flag.
After the camp fire, Monica was presented
with her official Thunderbird hat (the step before investiture.)
Sunday morning featured Scouts' Own. Cory Scouten (Rover,) Mary Elop (retired Beaver Leader) and Karuch Minocher (Scout) presented their ideas on what it meant to them to be a member of the 81st Hamilton.
In all, the feedback on the weekend was very positive, and once again the Thunderbird Rovers showed their commitment to their community, group and the Scouting Movement.
As the organizer of this event, I would like to finally say 'Thank You' to everyone who helped out, from the time we sat down in September and proposed the idea, to cleaning up the camp site before leaving. I think that the spirit shown by the current members as well as the former members who returned, is what being a member of the 81st Hamilton is all about.
