Rocks were sliding, brooms were sweeping and body muscles were aching the next day but fun was had by all.
64 members and friends of Scouting took part in the day long bonspiel. From the 16 teams, the 81st Hamilton Rovers entered a team consisting of lead: Cory Scouten, second: Mark Miller, vice: Dave Oliver, and skip: Heather James. (Laura was to curl but had to work during the first game but she came to watch our second game).
The 81st team consisting of novice players (except for Heather) started off very shakily, not quite certain of how to shoot, and sweep but we did know how to slide (and fall). Half way through the game, Heather had to switch to second, putting Miller as skip and Dave as vice due to the hatred of the position (she had never done it before). With all of this considered we lost our first game 4-3 but it was a hard fought game.
By the time of our second game, we were pro’s on the ice (well, almost) and kicked ass (oops!) with a 5-4 victory. Thanks must be credited to extra support from fellow Rover Laura, family members, and the Canada hats worn by Cory and Miller. (Team Canada pulls through every time).
After our games we rested in the club lounge and then feasted on a wonderful roast beef dinner prepared and served by Scouting volunteers. After our meal, the top teams were called out and allowed first dibbs on the prizes. The 81st team, being at the bottom of the score sheet chose from the leftovers, but still the leftovers were really good prizes. Overall, the day was great.
