Day
9 saw our second service project for the Moot. It was in a small
Purépecha (Native Mexican) community in Michoacan. Basically,
we were doing a make-over of the town. The goal for the government
was to make the place more enjoyable for the people who lived there (most
of them very poor) and to make it more attractive to tourists - maybe helping
out the population in the future.
By the time I arrived at the project site, it was the last day for service. So, everything was almost done! We did find a number of things to finish up though...
Lots of people hard at work doing a number
of things... mooters before us had painted the whole town, put in
garbage cans along the sidewalks, cleaned the roads...
Patricia from Portugal and Karla from
Mexico (two people from our group) planting some bushes in the park!
Manuel (a Swiss Rover) getting some help
from local kids.
Unfortunately, not everyone was so enthusiastic...
The gazebo, which was the centre of town
(we fixed it up too.)
Soon enough, it was time to head back
to camp.
Later that night, a bunch of us went out to a local establishment to celebrate the end of our time in Michoacan... after a late night, we all slept really well :-)
