CAR #23: 1981 PontiacGrand Le Mans SPONSORS: Nothing but the good old cows CREW: Arnie, Trevor, Tim, and Dusty HIGHLIGHTS: uh...... We led one or two laps in a heat race on the dirt one time.....oh and Arnie led a few laps in the car one time back in 1995, and one time we finished on the lead lap at Cayuga. Let's hope we have some more to brag about after this season!! HISTORY: The DeBoer Motorsports' racing division was born in the early 1990's when Arnie, uncle Mike and cousin Ken scrounged up three old beasts to take to the enduros at Cayuga. Arnie managed to recruit a flashy '78 four-door Granada, Mike, a checkered '76 Chevelle and Ken a 70's Cordoba. The three graced the 5/8 mile speedway for the next two years. By this time, the Chevelle and Cordoba were used up and the ole Granada was.. well... just too sluggish. Although it hurt to retire a faithful companion that was the Granada, Arnie returned to the speedway in 1995 with a newly self-built '81 Grand Le Mans and a new outlook on the future. Car and driver entered one endurance race before stepping up to the Thundercar ranks that same year. The Thundercars brought a new challenge for the lone DeBoer car. Unfortunately, the coming years would put a greater strain on the time of the DeBoer patriarch and #23 was put in cold storage with hopes of someday returning to the sport it was so destined to reign over. It would not be until the summer of 2000 that the knight of the roaring road would again rear it's 350 cubic inch head. By this time Arine's kids were older and ready for a project. The #23 was dressed in a new coat of Ford blue and hit the track in the Thundercar season finale of the 2000 season, this time with son, Trevor behind the wheel. Although the car would lose it's brakes and hit the wall in turn 3 & 4, this was indeed the resurgance of Thundercar #23. We have been racing ever since and enjoying being the backmarker, the sleeping giant as some may describe it, of the series, just waiting for the right moment to pounce on win #1. |
