(It is about 3 months after the honeymoon. Callie coming out of the doctor's office. All of a sudden She is grabbed from behind.)
(Scene. It is about midnight, that night. Frank is pacing up & down the living room floor, while Joe, & Iola is sitting on the couch, cuddling up against each other.)
Frank: | This isn't like her to just be gone for so long. Where could she be? |
Joe: | I don't know. Maybe she decided to go somewhere, & got distracted, after work. |
Frank: | Without telling me. That is not Callie. She would tell me. (With a tear coming down his cheek.) Joe, if I lose her, I don't know what I would do. |
Iola: | Frank, we will find her. Why don't you try to get some sleep? |
Frank: | I can't sleep, without knowing where Callie is. |
Joe: | Well, we can go find her. |
Frank: | O.K. I will see if I can borrow, Mom, & Dad's car. Callie has ours. Joe, you & Iola take the van. If you find anything call on the cell phone. |
(Scene. It is about 3 in the morning, & we are in the van, with Iola, & Joe.)
Iola: | Where could she have gone? |
Joe: | I don't know. I am getting really worried. |
Iola: | (Looking at the doctors office.) Joe, waite, isn't that Frank & Callie's car? |
Joe: | It looks like it. |
Iola: | Let's go over & look at it. |
Joe: | On my way. (He turns into the parking lot, & Up to Frank & Callie's car.) It sure looks like their car. But where is Callie. |
Iola: | I don't know. I am afraid of where she might be. |
Joe: | I will call Frank. Let him know that we found the car. (He takes his cell phone, out of the van, & calls Frank.) Frank,...Well we found the car. But she wasn't by it, or in it....Yeah, we are at Dr. Meyers office...I don't know...O.K. See you when you get here. (He hangs up the phone.) Isn't this a gynecologists office. |
Iola: | Yeah, I wonder what she was doing here. (thinking.) Well this is as good a time as any. I hope he likes the news. (Out loud.) Uh, honey. I have something to talk to you about. I thought while we were waiting for Frank, we could talk. |
Joe: | What's wrong honey? |
Iola: | Nothing wrong, I just have some news for you. It is about us. |
Joe: | Well, what is it? |
Iola: | (Coming up to Joe, putting her arms around his neck.) Well, I don't know how you are going to take this, but I came to see this doctor yesterday. Well, we are going to have a baby. |
Joe: | What? You're pregnant. (She shakes her head yes.) Oh, my gosh. That is the best news. Oh, I am so happy. |
Iola: | Me too. I didn't know how you would react. This is wonderful. (At that time Frank drives up, while Joe, & Iola are kissing.) |
Frank: | (Coming to the car, looking in it.) Well this is our car. Joe, Iola, you didn't see anything. |
Joe: | (They stop kissing.) Oh, sorry Frank, no, We haven't seen anything of her. |
Frank: | Callie, where could you be? |
Iola: | (Coming up to Frank, patting him on the back.) Don't worry Frank, we will find her. |
Frank: | Isn't this a gynecologist office? |
Iola: | Yeah, I came here yesterday. |
Frank: | You, why? |
Joe: | (Some what smiles for the baby, but still worried about Callie. Coming up behind Iola, he puts his arms around her waiste.) Well, we are going to have a baby. |
Frank: | (Still distracted.) That is nice. Congratulations. |
Iola: | He is still upset. Let's let him be for now. |
Joe: | Good idea. (Kissing her on the neck.) |
(Scene the next morning. Frank, Joe, Iola, Laura, & Fenton around the kitchen table.)
Fenton: | Where is Callie? She usually comes...(Seeing how sad Frank is.) Son what is going on? |
Frank: | Callie didn't come home last night, & we found our car at Dr. Meyer's office, but she wasn't there. |
Fenton: | Oh, my gosh. I hope she is O.k. What do you think happened? |
Joe: | That is what we tend to find out. I don't know what is going on, but we are going to find her, (Looking at Frank.) I promise, Frank. We will find her. |
Laura: | What would she be going to Dr.... (Then it finally hit her.) Oh, my gosh. |
Frank: | (Not paying much attention to his mother.) I have to find her. |
Joe: | I guess this is as good a time as any to bring up our good news. |
Fenton: | What is it Joe? |
Iola: | We are going to have a baby. |
Laura: | Are you serious? Wow. I am going to be a Grandmother. |
Joe: | I am glad you feel that way. We are excited. |
Frank: | Well, I am going out to look for Callie. I think I will start with the doctor's office. |
Fenton: | Be careful. Joe, maybe you & Iola should go with him. & Congratulations you 2. |
Joe: | Thanks Dad. We will keep you updated. |
Fenton: | Please do. Did you call the police? |
Frank: | We did that, as soon as we found the car. |
Fenton: | We will keep you in our prayers. Be careful. |
Joe: | Thanks, Dad. Let's go. |
(At a far away hide out. You see Callie tied, & gagged in a chair. A man came out, about 6 foot, with long black hair, & a rugged mustache.)
Man: | Well, Mrs. Hardy. I see you have woke up. I am going to take the gag out of your mouth, but don't worry about screaming, cause we are out in the middle of nowhere. (He takes the gag out of her mouth.) |
Callie: | Who are you? What do you want? My husband will come, & he will find me. |
Man: | So many questions, so little mouth. Boy, I hope he does, & that little brother of his, & his wife too. Maybe I ought to take her too. |
Callie: | You leave Iola alone. She just came back a few months ago, & she don't need this now. |
Man: | Well, well, fisty are we? Well, let me tell you. Your husband, & Joe put me away a few years ago. & I believe you had something to do with that. But You will have to pay. You will pay for what you done to me. |
Callie: | Who are you? (Still blind fold on her eyes.) |
Man: | Oh, you will see Callie Hardy. You will see. I was waiting for just the right moment to do this, then when you 4 got married, I thought that would be a wonderful moment. Oh, does bomb ring a bell. |
Callie: | What are you talking about? Oh, my gosh. You didn't set a bomb in the house, to kill them, did you? |
Man: | Oh, no. I wouldn't try that again. It didn't work the first time. How about Car bomb? |
Callie: | You beast. You are the one that put the bomb in the car, that almost killed Iola. How did you get out? |
Man: | Oh, I have my ways. Now I want my revenge. It was sweet that Iola, didn't get killed in that car after all. Now I can torture Joe Hardy a little more. How sweet. (Rubbing his hands together.) Couldn't have thought of it myself. Now to call them up. (He picks up a cell phone, & calls Frank, on his cell phone.) Hello Frank Hardy...yes I believe I have something of yours...Oh, you know who it is. You have been looking for her, since last night...Oh, don't worry, she is O.K. As long as you do as I say...Oh, you know who it, is. A little hint, Car bomb...Oh, well do as I say, & she won't get hurt. I will call later with your directions...Bye Mr. Hardy. |
(Back at the Hardy van. Frank just hung up the phone.)
Joe: | Frank, that was him, wasn't it. Who is it? |
Frank: | All he said is Car bomb, for who it is. He has Callie. He will be calling me later with instructions. |
Joe: | Car bomb. What does he mean by that. |
Iola: | (Frightened.) Uh, Joe. |
Joe: | (Looking at his frightened wife.) Honey, what's wrong? |
Iola: | The guy that set the car bomb, is he still in jail? |
Joe: | As far as we know. Oh, my gosh. |
Frank: | Let's go talk to Chief Mcginnis, right now. |
Joe: | Good idea. |
(About an hour later, you see the gang in the police station. Chief Mcginnis comes out of his office.)
Chief: | I am sorry Frank, but no news yet. |
Joe: | (Looking at his worried brother, with tears in his eyes. Then back at Chief.) Chief that man that put the bomb in my car, is he still in jail? |
Chief: | I don't know. I can find out for you though. Why? |
Joe: | Frank got a phone call from the kidnapper, saying that he has Callie, & mentioned Car bomb. |
Chief: | OH, my gosh. Yeah, I will look into that right now. (Looking at Frank.) We will do what we can to find her, Frank. I promise. |
Frank: | Thanks Chief. So will I. I can't lose her. I love her. (Starting to cry.) |
Joe: | I know you do, bro. We will find her. (Putting his arm around Franks shoulders.) You bet we will. |
Frank: | (furious tone.) If he hurts her, (Pounding his fist on the counter.) He will wish he was dead. |
Chief: | Frank calm down. You need to be thinking straight to help find her. Maybe you ought to.... |
Frank: | (Interrupting) Don't even say it. You know I will help, with or without your permission. |
Chief: | I know. Just be careful. |
Joe: | We will. Thanks. |
Chief: | (Goes to check on the computer about the guy that set the bomb, in their car, that almost killed Iola. He returned with a worried look on his face.) Uh, Frank He escaped yesterday. Do you happen to know what she was doing at the gynecologist office? |
Frank: | (Look of great worry on his face.) What? No. We were heading over there to check for leads, when we got the phone call. |
Chief: | Good idea. Maybe someone could have seen something. |
Joe: | That is what we think. |
Chief: | O.K. I will come with you, to help. |
Frank: | Thanks. |
(Later, at the doctor's office. There is a receptionist in the lobby.)
Receptionist: | Oh, hello Mrs. Hardy. (Looking at Iola.) Is this your husband? |
Iola: | Yes, it is. Joe, this is Shanon, this is Joe, my husband, & Frank his brother. |
Shanon: | Oh, Mr. Hardy. What can I do for you? |
Frank: | My wife must have been here yesterday. We found my car out in the parking lot. Can you tell me, if you seen her. |
Shanon: | Yes, she was in here. Why? |
Frank: | Well she is missing. We were hoping to talk to the doctor. Can you tell me what she was in for? |
Shanon: | (Look of worry in her eyes.) Oh, my gosh. Let me get the doctor. Only she can tell you that. (She goes to get the doctor.) |
Dr. Meyers: | Mr. Hardy. Congratulations. |
Joe: | Thanks. |
Dr. Meyers: | To you too, Frank. |
Frank: | What are you talking about? |
Dr. Meyers: | You mean Callie hasn't told you yet? |
Joe: | We haven't seen her since yesterday morning. Could you tell us what she was doing here, & if you might know of anything to her disappearance? |
Dr. Meyers: | Let's go into my office. (They go into her office.) I am sorry Frank. But I haven't seen your wife since yesterday. As for her coming, here, is because. I don't know how to tell you Frank, but you are going to have a baby, as well as Joe, & Iola. |
Frank: | (Shocked statement on his face.) WHAT? She is pregnant. |
Joe: | Calm down Frank. |
Frank: | (Looking at Joe, with murder in his eyes.) Not only does that jerk have my wife, but my unborn child & you tell me to calm down. How would you like it to happen to Iola. (Covering his mouth. Iola starts to cry on Joe's shoulder.) |
Joe: | Frank, that was uncalled for. (Patting Iola's back.) Now you apologize. She has went through Hell & back, just recently. |
Frank: | I am sorry Iola. I shouldn't have said it. (Coming up to Iola. Looking at Joe.) I am sorry. Let's go. (Then at Dr. Meyers.) Thank you Doctor. |
Dr. Meyers: | My pleasure. I am sorry for your wife. If you like we can give you something to calm you down. |
Frank: | No thank you Dr. We do need to find Callie. |
Dr. Meyers: | O.K. Good luck. Mrs. Hardy, don't take what your brother-in-law says to heart. He is just upset. |
Iola: | (Still crying, shakes her head.) Thank you Dr. (They get to the van.) |
Frank: | I wish I didn't say that. I didn't mean it. |
Iola: | I know. I am sorry I broke down in there. |
Joe: | That is all right. It is O.K. (Looking at Frank.) Now what do we do? |
Frank: | I don't know. All I know is I want Callie Back. & I will do anything to get her back. As long as it don't involve hurting someone. |
Joe: | I know. I know. I felt the same way, when I though Iola was dead. |
Iola: | I hope, & pray she is O.K. |
Joe: | Me too. |
(Back at the Hardy Home, Frank was fighting sleep, but finally gave up. Joe, & Iola came in, as he fell asleep.
Iola: | Poor Frank. He is exhausted. I can't imagine losing someone that you love. (Looking at Joe.) Well actually, I guess I can. I hated being away from you. |
Joe: | Same here. I hated that you were gone. I never thought I would see you again. |
Iola: | I know. (They start kissing.) |
(In Frank's dreams, you see Callie. She is walking up to Frank.)
Frank: | Callie. Oh, my gosh. They haven't hurt you, have they? |
Callie: | No, I am O.K. He just has me tied up. (For explanation. Sometimes on mystery stories, or any story, lovers are connected through their thoughts. I have always liked that, so I thought that I would do that with Frank, & Callie, & Joe, & Iola. I hope you like it.) |
Frank: | If he hurts you. I swear I will hurt him. |
Callie: | Just be careful. I have to go now. Please find me. I am scared. |
Frank: | I don't care what it takes. I will find you. I love you. |
Callie: | I know you do. I love you too. Just be careful. (She starts walking off, then disappears.) I love you Frank Hardy. |
Frank: | I love you, Callie Hardy. (Then outside of his dream. He is screaming) Callie, come back. Callie, don't leave. Come back. Callie... |
Joe: | (Coming to his brother's side. Shaking him gently.) Frank, wake up. It is just a dream. Wake up. Come Frank. Wake up. |
Frank: | (Waking up.) What?...What happened? |
Iola: | (Coming up behind Joe.) You were having a dream. |
Frank: | It felt so real. Callie was coming to see me. I want to find her. & I want to find her now. |
Joe: | I know. But we can't do anything right now. Not till he calls. Come on, let's go get something to drink. |
Frank: | O.K. (They go to the kitchen for something to drink. Frank with Orange Juice, Joe with Coke, & Iola with Diet Coke.) O.K. We know it might be the guy that set the bomb in the car. We are just not for sure. I hate not knowing what is going on with her. |
(At the hide out. Callie has finally gone to sleep, but waking up, with a start.)
Callie: | Frank, Frank. Help me. Help me. |
Man: | Callie, Frank can't help you now. He still has no idea who I am, or where we are. |
Callie: | If I know Frank, & Joe, they have given it some thought, & they know who you are. How dare you kidnap me. What are you going to do to us? |
Man: | Oh, you will find out. You will find out. |
Callie: | (Whispering) Frank, please help. (She hears in her head, Franks voice.) I will find you, I don't care what it takes. You are going to be home with me. I love you. I don't wan't to lose you. |
(At the Hardy home.)
Frank: | I don't know if you will think that I am weird or what? But, it seems that I can hear Callie in my head, talking to me. Pleading for me to help her. |
Joe: | You are just worried, & nervous. That is all. |
Iola: | I don't know. I know sometimes, lovers can feel, & hear each other, when they are in situations like this. |
Frank: | That has to be it. We are connected. I have to find her. At least I know she is still alive. (As he said that, the phone rings. He goes up to the phone.) Hello, Frank Hardy here....You leave her alone....If you hurt her, you will wish you were dead....O.k. I will. Just don't hurt her...(He hangs up.) |
Joe: | (Seeing the worried look on his brother's face.) That was him, wasn't it? |
Frank: | He wants me to go to the oak tree in the park, I will find instructions there. |
Joe: | O.K. The chief has put a guard outside the house, we need to tell him. |
Frank: | He said, no cops. Or he will...(He couldn't finish the sentence.) |
Iola: | Oh, poor Callie. God help us to find her. (She prayed.) |
(At the tree, you see Frank picking up a bag. He opens it up, & there is a note in it, with a change of clothes.)
Joe: | What does it say? |
Frank: | (Reading out loud.) Frank, if I know your brother, he has come with you. I want you, Joe, & Iola, if she is with you also, to change into these clothes. |
Iola: | Why would he want us to change clothes? |
Joe: | To make sure we have no bugging devices, or microphone. |
Frank: | (Reading on, he sees a car key taped to the note.) It also say's, that here is a car key, that we are to get into a 1999 Chevy cavelear, red. & drive it to the Gas station on the corner of Main, & Walnut. |
Iola: | Boy, he does want to be cautious. |
Joe: | Yeah, he doesn't want any cops around. |
Iola: | Yeah. Well we have to do what it say's. |
Joe: | We can change in those bathrooms over there. Will you be all right going into the woman's alone? |
Iola: | Yes, if anything happens, I will yell out. |
Joe: | Be sure you do. I will be right there. |
Iola: | (Giving him a kiss.) You bet. I love you so much. |
Joe: | I love you. |
(Later, you see Joe, Iola, & Frank in the car, that was put in the note. Joe, is driving, Iola in the front seat, & Frank in the back.)
Joe: | O.K. Here is the gas station that the note spoke of. |
Frank: | I will look around to see what I can find. (Frank, comes out of the car, & Joe, & Iola does too. They look around, when the cashier comes out, & up to Frank.) |
Cashier: | Are you Frank Hardy? |
Frank: | Yes. May I help you. We are kind of busy at the moment. |
Cashier: | This man came up to me, & gave this note to me, with your picture, & told me to give this to you. (She gives him the note.) He said you would want it. He said something about car, & bomb. Is everything O.K. Mr. Hardy? |
Frank: | Well, my wife is missing, but I will find her. Did you see who the guy was? |
Cashier: | I thought of it, for a while, then I remembered your name, & remembered a case you all had with a car bomb that killed, one of yours girlfriend. They had put a picture of him in the paper. I have a good memory, I believe it was him. If you need my help, please don't hesitate to ask. (Looking at Iola.) As a matter of fact, wasn't that you who was killed in that bomb? |
Iola: | Witness protection Program. |
Cashier: | Oh, Well I am glad to see you are O.K. |
Iola: | Thanks. & thanks for the offer. If we need you we will let you know. |
Cashier: | Let me know how it turns out would you. I am worried about your wife sir. |
Frank: | Thank you. There is one thing you can do. |
Cashier: | What? Anything. |
Frank: | Pray, that we get her back. |
Cashier: | You bet I will. I am a Christian myself. & you bet I will. |
Frank: | Thank you. |
Cashier: | Your welcome. I have to get back to work, but remember if you need anything else... |
Frank: | We will let you know. |
Cashier: | Thanks. (She goes back to work.) |
Iola: | She was nice. |
Joe: | Yeah. (Looking at Frank) What does it say? |
Frank: | It says to go to the wax museum, just out of town, & I will get my instructions there. It is behind a wax figure of Al Capone. |
Joe: | Freaky. Isn't that the wax museum of all those horrible figures in there? |
Iola: | I think so. That is going to be a wild time. |
(Scene: Wax museum, You see all kinds of figures of people like Bonnie, & Clyde, Al Capone, All kind of bad guy's. Sorry don't know too many.)
Frank: | (Going up to Al Capone.) Found it. |
Iola: | This place gives me the creeps. I would love to know who thought of this place. |
Joe: | I know honey. We will be out of here in a minute. (Looking at Frank.) What does it say? |
Frank: | Go to the dumpster behind the museum. Is all it say's. |
Iola: | Oh, boy. At least we won't be in here anymore. (Leaning up against Joe.) |
Joe: | (Putting his arms around her.) It is O.K. Honey. |
(Scene: Outside the museum, you see them, out by the trash dumpster.)
Joe: | I wonder what he wants us to do now. |
Man: | Well here is your answer. (He comes out with a gun in his hand.) Now move slowly in that van, right over there. |
Frank: | How is my wife. (They are moving towards the van at this time.) |
Man: | Oh, she is fine. She is sleeping at the moment. |
Frank: | What have you done to her? |
Man: | Oh, she is just sleeping. She is quite all right. Right now. |
(They get into the back of the van, & it is closed off from the front.)
Man: | Now you have a nice ride. (Closing the door, he goes up front, & they are off.) |
Iola: | This man is mad. |
Joe: | I know. But we will get out of this. I promise. |
Frank: | I am just going on with this to find Callie, then I want us all to try to escape. |
Joe: | O.K. What do we do? |
Frank: | Once we are in the hideout, & find out that Callie is O.K. We are going to jump him. If we take him from all sides, we can take him. |
Joe: | Good plan big Brother. I hope it works. |
Iola: | It will. I have faith that it will. (Joe, is keeping his arm around Iola.) |
Joe: | (Giving her a kiss on the head.) You bet it will. |
(Later the van stops, & the Man, comes in the back.)
Man: | O.K. now you all get out. & no hanky panky stuff. |
Frank: | As long as Callie is fine, no problem. |
Man: | Now move, into that cabin. (As he is training the gun on them. They go in the cabin, & Frank sees his wife tied up in a chair.) |
Frank: | Callie, you all right? |
Callie: | Frank, am I dreaming again, or is that you? |
Frank: | No, it is me. I am here. |
Man: | Nice, touchy. Makes me want to cry. (Sarcastically.) NOT. |
Iola: | You beast. |
Man: | Boy, you woman are all alike. Likes to call me beast. (Slapping her, across the face.) |
Joe: | (That is all Joe needed, as she comes up to him,) You creep. (Gives him a left hook to the jaw.) Don't you ever touch my wife again. You all ready gave us hell, when you almost killed her. (He hits him again, & again.) This is for almost taking my Iola away from me. (Again, by this time, the man is about knocked unconscious.) & this is for taking Callie away from Frank. |
Frank: | (Holding up Joe's hand before he could hit him again.) Joe, I am mad too, but he is about out of it. Come on. We can get the police over here, to help us arrest him. Let's tie him up, with Callie's ropes. (At this time, Iola has been working on Callie's ropes, & has her free.) |
(Later that evening, you see the family in the living room. Callie, & Frank on the couch. Joe, & Iola on the love seat. & Fenton, & Laura on their chairs.)
Laura: | I am glad to see that you are all right, Callie. We would hate to lose you. |
Callie: | Thanks Mom. I was scared. |
Frank: | (Hugging onto Callie from behind. Kissing her on the neck.) You mean the world to me. I hate the thought of losing you. I love you so much. When I found out who had, you, I couldn't think straight. All I could think of, is he almost killed Iola. What if he killed you, too. I couldn't live without you. (Patting her stomach. Whispering in her ears.) I know about the baby. I am happy. |
Callie: | Dr. Meyers told you, didn't she? |
Frank: | Yes. You have made me the happiest man alive. |
Laura: | So it is true. You are both pregnant? |
Callie: | (Looking at Iola.) You too. |
Iola: | Yep. We went to the same doctor apparently. |
Callie: | Wow. |
Fenton: | Isn't there anything that you 2 don't Have together? (Laughter fills the room.) |
Callie: | I want to go upstairs & celebrate. |
Frank: | You bet. |
Joe: | You ready? |
Iola: | You bet. (All 4 go to their separate rooms.) |
Laura: | Boy, in a little while we are going to have the sound of 2 babies in the house. |
Fenton: | Oh, boy. Waking up at 3 o'clock in the morning again. This is going to be fun. |
Laura: | But worth it. I am happy for them. |
Fenton: | Me too. I am happy to get Callie back too.|
Laura: | Me too. I don't think I could go through another son's depression. That just killed me inside with Joe, watching him so depressed. |
Fenton: | I know honey. Me too. Me too. |
I hope you liked this one. Sorry it took me a while to get this going. But here it is. e-mail me to let me know what you think. Sorry these stories are short. But that is all I ever write. I could never write them very long for some reason. Well I hope you all had a nice 4th of July.
