"Joseph? Dr. Hill called to the blonde haired, sapphire-blue- eyed young man in his office. His patient had been Practically non responsive since first arriving at the "Weighnright hospital" last Thursday night. The Doctor sighed inwardly, he had tried everything to get Joseph Hardy to open up to him during their therapy sessions, however the young man had seemingly shut himself down after his family, in his eyes, just dumped him there.

Meanwhile, sitting across from his frustrated psychologist, Joe was still reeling. He had never felt so betrayed before in his life! How could they have done this to him...his own parents had he committed to the loony bin! He did not belong here he screamed inside his head. He knew the Doctor was only trying to do his job but the words just didn't seem to want to come out. Actually no words had passed through Joe's lips since the ride over when his protests were cut off with the administration of a sedative from his family Doctor.

Joe had been through quite a lot in his seventeen years; much more than normal. His family had always feared that he would someday crack from the constant pressure, but when his eighteen-year-old brother, Frank, went off for the weekend to attend a college seminar it all just suddenly came to a tragic head.

Joe had not resented or complained about Frank leaving him alone for the weekend; in fact he had encouraged it. The very close knit brothers, and partners, had needed a break from each other and besides, Joe had been feeling guilty about every one being so damn over protecting. Actually, it was beginning to smother him but he would certainly never let them know. They were just trying to protect him after all. But his "depression" as his mother had labeled it, had apparently scared them all so much that they felt they had to drag him kicking and screaming from the principal's office where he was sent after "unleashing" on an unfortunate rival. His tirade had continued until Dr. Jones, his family doctor, had arrived and given him a mild sedative.

Joe's breakdown, which may have looked to anyone who didn't know him or his family, like a spoiled out of control brat. But the incident had terrified his parents enough to consult Dr. Jones, their family physician who, knowing Joseph's medical history had promptly agreed to see them and evaluate Joe's condition.

Fenton Hardy had snuck concerned looks into the backseat of his car as his wife tried to calm their youngest son. Joe's chest was still heaving from rage, but he now kept quiet. "Joseph!" his father finally spoke, in his most stern voice, although he actually instantly regretted his outburst when Joe jumped.

Joe's gaze fell to the rear view mirror to meet his father's dark concerned ones. "What dad?! he finally spat.

His mother looked a bit shocked and scolded him about his tone of voice. Fenton sighed and continued. "Son, are you calm enough to tell us exactly what the hell happened back there?!"

Joe glared at him, and then sighed. "Sorry dad, mom. I guess I just lost it back there. But he had it coming! Man he had been on my case ever since the school year started! “Joe apologized.

His father drew in a breath. He wanted to be a good father and be there for both his sons but he also knew that they had both been well trained in many forms of self defense, and It was very important that they learn to control their emotions and tempers, or they could get in some serious trouble. It was then that the car came to the office of Doctor Jones. Joe was at once suspicious of why they were here.

"Mom! Dad! Why are we here?!" They did not answer at first; however, their sullen serious expressions were enough to cause Joe to become increasingly agitated.

"Joe...." His mother began softly. "Honey...we have to have you checked over. I mean your eye looks pretty swollen And ..."

Joe cut her off shooting an intuiting glance in his father's direction. "I am ok...honest! I have calmed down now; really I don't need to see the Doctor. .." His mother looked helpless; she turned toward her husband as if she was begging for his help.

"Joseph, son, you have to have this check up. It was ordered by the school board, they are very concerned about your continued trouble in school both educationally and emotionally. This last "incident" was enough to have you Expelled Joseph! Are you fully aware of how hard we had to fight to keep you from being kicked out?"

Joe was in shock now, too much so to even speak as his father continued his lecture. He was in trouble big time and where was the only person whom he thought he could turn to for support? He was already on his way to Boston for a long weekend of fun! Frank was not there when Joe had flipped on Brad Miller.

Brad had once again tried to humiliate Joe in front of all his friends and family during a baseball game between the Bayport Bombers and the Grisham Gogetters. Joe could probably have handled the comments and stupid tricks Brad played on Joe. The two young men had instantly gotten off on the wrong foot when Joe won the coveted spot of Quarterback on the school football team. It didn't help that Brad thought Joe was practically handed everything he wanted because everyone had felt sorry for the things that seem to happen to him all the time. But when Joe had finished showering and dressing he came out of the school just in time to catch Brad with his filthy hands all over his Vanessa... Joe lost it big time.

For a second Joe had stood frozen, unsure how to interpret the scene. But he quickly recovered and hid just around the corner close enough to hear the two. Joe's face was as red as a rose. He had to check his temper, but after hearing his girlfriend's reaction to Brad's touch Joe Hardy could no longer control his rage. Suddenly, everything went white as he found himself rushing forward to confront them.

~~~~~~~
Vanessa Bender was in love with handsome Joe Hardy. Everyone could see that...well, almost anyone. OOH! she was so furious with that Brad Miller. What a Jerk! she thought to herself as she approached the entrance to the School gym to wait for Joe to finish changing.
I think I'll try to get Joe to go out somewhere nice this weekend. He will probably be so lonely without Frank. Besides that jerk, Brad, had said some pretty taunting things to him. She knew Joe could take care of himself, usually, but lately everything just seemed to come crashing down on him. And Brad was certainly not helping..."Jerk!" She repeated with the last word spoken out loud but softly.
She wished that Frank did not have to go to Boston yet. It was Thursday but there was a teacher conference and so they all had Friday off. So Frank's friend in Boston had invited him to leave tonight. Vanessa would have loved to have arranged a double date with Frank and his long time girlfriend, Callie Shaw. At least I will have some alone time with my man. That could definitely be a plus in her book. Vanessa smiled, thinking how lucky she was to have a wonderful, not to mention gorgeous, boyfriend who cared so much for her and others, especially when she was well aware of the fact that Joe Hardy could practically have his pick of any girl he wanted.
Sigh. She was suddenly jolted out of her daydream when a hand touched her shoulder. Startled, she jumped. She froze at the sound of the voice behind her. It was Brad Miller. "Oh! She exclaimed then quickly composed herself.
"Hi babe!" she cringed. The only man who could ever call her that was Joe but she just ignored the remark.
"Brad Miller! You certainly have a nerve even looking at me after the way you constantly treat Joe!" He watched her beautiful gray eyes glaring at him, smiling as if he enjoyed watching her chew him out.
"Listen, hon. forget that looser!" he cooed. Brad continued to stare at her and his hand reached up and cradled her chin.
Vanessa took a tentative step back trying not to look scared of this bully. but she was also fighting the bile which threatened to race up her throat as his hand held her face upward until her eyes was forced to meet his dusty grey ones. He looked Baked! She tried not to shiver but her body shook anyway out of repulsion and fear.
Oh where are you Joe! Someone please, she silently pleaded as she could feel Brads body getting so close to hers. She tried to look away but he held her firmly and forced her to look into his eyes. A trace of lust shone through, then he smiled evilly before bringing his lips down to engulf hers. She tried to push him away; tried to scream, but his mouth had muffled her voice.
Her eyes began to tear up then went wide as she became fully aware of Joseph Hardy storming over to grab Brad Miller off his girlfriend. Vanessa meanwhile, was now terrified for she had never ever seen Joe this angry...not even when he had confronted the man who kidnapped his brother last year. He was like a fierce animal attacking his enemy. Brad managed to get in at least one or two good punches to Joe's face and mid-section, but Joe clearly had the skills and experience to do some serious damage.
"NO! “screamed Vanessa. "Joe! Please stop. You'll kill him!" She had been screaming for help since the fight began and finally a crowd began to form until security and Coach Withers managed to tear the two "bears" apart.
Joe was by now on top of Brad pummeling him with punches that left many of a witness shocked. They had to drag him to the principal's office. School had ended for the day but Principal Smithers was there to get some last minute preparations done for the conference. She was not happy at all to see Joe Hardy being dragged, kicking and screaming, to her office.
A clearly shaken Vanessa Bender was there too, trying desperately to be allowed near her boyfriend hoping, no, pleading, that her presence would help calm him. Besides Joe was in big trouble and it was all because he was trying to help her. Or was he? she glanced over at him as he was forced into a chair.
Did Joe flip out like that because he actually thought I was cheating on him with his rival of all people? she wondered. Then shrugged that off, especially after his beautiful eyes met hers with one of the most genuine expressions of love and concern that she had ever experienced. It took her breath away! Joe calmed a bit drinking in Vanessa's returning look of assurance and love. But they were interrupted as the outer office doors could be heard banging loudly. Joe's heart raced. He knew he was in big trouble now as the booming voice of Fenton Hardy could be heard quite clearly throughout the office and probably the whole school. Joe shrunk down in his seat. His father sounded really pissed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Where is my son!?" Fenton Hardy's voice bellowed. He had been just returning from dropping Frank off at the airport and was returning to meet Joe when he was alerted to the situation. Fenton knew there was something stirring up between those two boys but had never thought that he would hear that his youngest son had almost killed another student.

Fenton immediately stormed off to the principal's office followed by his distraught wife, Laura. He entered the outer office barely able to contain his own rage, but as he stepped through the doors and his face came upon his baby boy's, he knew that Joe had finally fallen over the edge.

Joe sat there, in his seat, his hand was cuffed (security precaution) because he had thrashed around so much they all must have thought he had finally gone off the deep end. Joe cringed as his father stormed into the office and turned to glare at him...but then his father's handsome dark features had suddenly changed to one of pure concern and like every good parent, he saw his father's mood switch from anger to protectiveness. He also saw a sadness as his father sighed and took the seat next his wife who had rushed to her son's side. He was, after all, her baby, and he was also sporting a shiner on his right eye that would have to be looked at.

You should see the other guy, Joe thought of saying. His parents were angry but they loved him and Frank and had trusted them so much that they knew there had to be more to this story than meets the eye. Joe was in trouble AGAIN! His eyes took on that same far way depressed look which came all too often when he once again felt like he was a burden to those around him. He in all actuality had no idea what came over him. Sure, he wanted to protect Vanessa to get that creep off her! How dare he even touch her?! His rage began threatening to erupt, but a stern look from his parents helped him reign it in...this time. Hey by the way. he wondered...Where is Miller? Why isn't he here to? Take some of the blame...after all he started this whole damn thing!!

~~~~~~~
Frank Hardy was oblivious to his younger brother's latest predicament as he scanned an issue of Airline Monthly. Stifling a yawn, Frank suddenly sat up in his seat, dropped the magazine to the floor..."JOE!!"
He had always shared what many people deemed as a psychic bond with Joe, was it telling him that Joe was in trouble, or was he just feelings pangs of guilt because he was leaving Joe alone for four whole days? Frank thought about giving his family a call however, due to the no cell phone ban on the plane, he realized he would just have to wait until he was in Boston.
Frank thought back to the conversation he had with Joe the day he received an invitation from his friend Ronnie Pete, whom he had first met on line. They had also met in person when Ronnie had come to the Bayport area for a computer convention. The two had hit it off wonderfully, It had occurred to Frank on a few occasions that it was actually kind of nice to have a friend, outside his circle of friends, one who he didn't have to share with Joe even, although, he had hoped that Joe and Ronnie would at least like each other.
As it turned out they had no problem getting along. Frank could swear that his brother was almost glad that Frank had someone who was more interested in all the computer mumbo j jumbo that Frank loved. His thoughts were interrupted with the pilot's voice announcing that the plane was approaching Boston's Logan International Airport. Frank placed his tray back in the upright position, replaced the magazine back in the little pouch in front of him, careful not to drop his laptop case, and finally fastened his seatbelt. As the plane was preparing to land Frank sat back tiring to push out any feelings of regret he had about leaving Joe...and Callie for that matter. Boy between those two vying for his undivided attention...Frank really needed this weekend off. Joe will be fine, he has A lot of people there to look after him. One of them being himself.
~~~~~~~~

Both of Brad Miller's parents were attorneys...high priced ones to boot. They were very well known for thier Competitiveness and success either against one another or any other council unfortunate to come up against them. So when they had been informed about their son's "attack", they immediately went into lawyer mode, and raced to pick up their badly bruised son.

Brad was obviously well on his way to following in his parents' footsteps because he had somehow managed to not only convince both his parents that he was completely innocent of doing the things that Vanessa now accused him of doing, he had even managed to accuse her of setting him up to make her boyfriend jealous...which had, unfortunately, worked but Brad had also successfully managed to convince his parents that Joseph Hardy had flipped and was trying to kill him...and it wasn't the first time. He added.

Joe, who had been sitting there in that chair, was now staring at Brad Miller in complete shock. He could deal with the fact that Brad was trying to accuse everyone that he was tying to kill the jerk, but when he started to accuse Vanessa of Practically throwing her at Brad in order to make Joe jealous he found himself loosing it again. His father also noticed Joe's face turn a bright red and knew he had to something and fast. or his son would not only blow his stack but quite possibly his future!

Principal Smithers was no smuck, and was well aware of the rivalry between these two hot heads. She glanced around the room. There were a lot of Bayports leading people in this room, the Chief of Police, two very well known attorneys, and the Hardys perhaps Bayport's most famous family, then her gaze fell on Joe. He had been glaring at Brad Miller from the moment the boy entered her office beside his parents and it did not look like he would be able to control his famous hot headed temper. However, she also knew that Joe was one of the very respectful and a class leader. She was well aware of the fact that Young Mr. Hardy was under an incredible amount of stress, perhaps more so than most. He had to not only competed with a brother who had always seemed to ace everything he touched, not to mention his many absences usually due to some kind of life threatening experience. God! If I were in his shoes I would have broken down along time ago.

She found herself respecting Joe's incredible will to live, however...this kind of behavior cannot and must not be tolerated in her school. Principal Jane Smithers' face was grim. I have to take action, even if it is to save Joe Hardy from himself! "I want to talk to Mr. and Mrs Hardy alone for a moment please?" She said while getting up. She turned to the Miller Family and politely directed them to a bench in the outer office.

Joe watched them go. He finally allowed a breath to escape, satisfied that Brad Miller was far enough away so that his temper could be kept in check. Vanessa ran over to Joe and sat in the chair next to his. "Joe?..."she began in a small voice,"I am so grateful that you came when you did but are you ok? I mean really?..Oh Joe, it was so horrible the way your eyes looked. I don't which scared me more; what Brad did to me or your reaction.."

He turned to look into his lovely girlfriend's eyes and sighed. "I am so sorry Babe! I never ever want to give you a reason to fear me Van! But I really don't even know what happend between the time I started running and when I could feel a strong arm on my shoulder,pulling me off Brad....It sounds wacked but I think I actually phased out for a while..."

Suddenly his face took on a seriously frightened look. " OH NO Vanessa! What if..."

Vanessa reached for his free hand and grasped it..deep concern in her eyes.."What JOe! What is wrong hon?" she looked directly into his peircing eyes and shuddered bcause they were now filled with a deep sadness and fear..and almost tears! She had to look away from him. Her heart started to break for she knew what he was about to say.

" Vanessa! what if I did go crazy?! What if I had killed Brad! My god Van what if I get expelled?" She leaned into give him a soothing hug but he had already started to slip away from her to that far away place where he could not be touched by the pain.

"Oh God, I am so sorry Joe! Please come back to me soon." Oh how I wish Frank were here, she thought to herself trying to decided if she should call Frank and tell him what had happend, but decided that it was not her place to make that judgement. She did however pray that someone would for she once again feared for her Joes sanity!!

~~~~~~~~
Principal Smithers had lead the Millers out into the front office and directed Mr. and Mrs Hardy to an ajoining office which was now empty. She promised to return shortly after she made a quick call reguarding this matter. It was also the best way to avoid the tension which had becaome as thick as pea soup. Fenton and Laura each took a seat. Fenton suddenly rose from his chair begining to pace back and forth.
"Fenton will you please stop that incesant pacing of yours?" Laura finally said.
He stopped and sat down. His dark eyes met hers. "Laura We cannot put it off anymore, honey! We have got to get some help for Joe!" His wife held his gaze then started to cry..he took her in his arms and held her close.
"Please honey! Must we even consider that option?" Laura had pleaded when her husband had once again brought up seeking professional help. They should at least see what the boys say..But she also knew deep down that Fenton was of course right. "OH God, he is slipping away from me every moment..I am loosing my baby!" She once again buryed her head in her husbands chest.
It was just then that Principal Smithers returned with the news from the phone call she had placed to the education board reguarding Joe's future at Bayport High. She had a lengthy discussion with the Hardys and reported that the board agreed to hold an emergency meeting and get back ro her. She also told them how fond she was of both their sons and that the last thing she wanted was for Joe to be expelled, or to flunk out. She explained that there will be a further investigation into the this mess. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy told her how much they appreciated her kind words reguarding her sons and did assure her that they were taking steps to get Joe the help he needs to get his life back in order.. They were interrupted when the phone rang. Principal Smithers picked it up. After speaking for a moment she hung up and turned once again to the cocerned parents of Joseph Hardy.
~~~~~~~

From there, things went down hill. Joe's parents were informed that, due to the circumstances and for the safety of not only himself or for the safety of the other students, that Joseph Scott Hardy will have to report to his doctor for a psych evaluation and drug screening(a formality). He must also be tutored and kept up with his grades which were dropping at an alarming rate. No one on the board could believe that Joe was doing drugs but the one word on all thier minds was "depression".

They were all aware of the hell that Joe's young life had become, the last time Joe had been kidnapped, he almost died! One particular member of the school board was more than concerned for Joe's wll being. He had at one time blamed Joe on the murder of his beloved daughter, and more than once has this young man and his family, been indirectly responsible for his son being in the line of fire. But that resentment had long since passed. In fact he was very fond of Joe and Frank, they were, good people. Like one of his own. Chester Morton senior sighed. "God Joe, why did this have to happen to you my boy!? Iola Honey...please Joe needs his guardian angel again sweetie..daddy loves you" with those words Mr. Morton turned and left the Cemetary where his little girl and perhaps Joe's salvation rested.

Later that night

Joe reluctantly followed his father into Dr. Jones office, he had shrugged off his father's firm hand on his arm, insiting that he could walk by himself. Secretly he really wanted to bolt out of there. Joe just could not believe that Brad had basically gotten away with everything he did..He just better stay the hell away from Vanessa. If I find him anywhere near her, I swear...But I have to do whatever the quacks tell me to for now," Joe thought to himself.

Dr. Jones came in and greeted the Hardys, he first came over and quickly examined Joe's now black eye which had already been treated with an ice pack. "Joe, how are you feeling right now?" He asked, a hint of concern mingled with professionalism Joe noticed.

"I am fine really Doc, I don't know why everyone is always so worried about me!" he exclaimed. It had been a long eventful day. Joe was exausted, he already missed his brother dearly and wondered if he should call him tonight and fill him in..then decided against it. His mom must have been reading his mind because she suddenly repeated his thoughts out loud to his father and the Doctor. "I was wondering if we should call Frank?" she started to say, but Joe had stopped her before she could say more.

"No mom, The last thing I need is for him to give up his vacation just so he can feel miserable and smother me to death with his over protectiveness!.." Oops..that came out a bit to forcefully. It was not what Joe had intended to reveal, but it did say what he FELT. A guilty look filled his eyes. He never wanted to blame Frank for anything that happend to him..It just was not fair...He just wished that he was as perfect as his brother in his parents eyes, or at least, adequate, right now he felt like a total failure. Joe once again began to shut down.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Frank, meanwhile had to admit to having the time of his life in Boston. Face it, no case, no school, and even, God help me, no Joe. Frank only meant that it had felt great to get a break from the stress of caring so much for someone elses's well being. He loved Joe and would be there for him always, but Joe did have to learn to take care of himself one of these days. He had called his home but no one was home, then before he could panic he tried his father's cell phone. They had told Frank that Joe had gotten into a fight at school with Brad Miller. He knew that was coming.
But his parents had left out the rest. They knew Joe needed his big brother right now, but the Doctor felt it would be better if Frank were not here, only because they knew that he would never agree to what they were now forced to do to his baby brother. In fact Frank would probably be furious. So Frank, relieved that everything was under control, returned to having the time of his life in Boston. He had the funny feeling that his parents were keeping something from him. Maybe when he talked to Joe later tonight he can fill him in on the fight he had with Brad Miller. He couldn't wait to tell him all about the computer convention at the Bayside Expo Center, It was going on all weekend so he could fit it in nicely aound his scheduele. The College Seminar was not until Saturday morning which left a lot of time for some of the fun stuff Ronnie and some friends of his had in mind.
Ronnie called out to him that their bus was coming, Boston was well known for it's MBTA plus the fact that it was much easier to get around than trying to drive a car through the busy streets of the city. So Ronnie insisted they purchase a weekend pass and off they went. Frank smiled. He would definitly have to take his baby brother here someday soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Joe was not sure why he was here really, yeah his parents had informed him that they needed a drug test but in no way believed Joe would use..Joe was not too sure they even beleived that anymore. With all the changes in his life not to mention the physical torture,psychological trauma and good old fashioned sibling rivalry...Joe was a mess, and a red hot fire cracker just ready to explode. Doctor Johnson had run a series of tests both mentaly an physically, he then asked Joe if he would step out into the waiting room for a second. He reluctantly agreed. In the waiting room, Joe found a seat and started to pick up a magazine then his eyes fell upon an object on the floor..It was a Spider-man action figure. "COOL!" Joe exclaimed as he rushed over and picked the figure up.

Joe had always been a fan of comics and of Spidey inparticular, amost as much as G,I. Joe. He smiled,at least some of the tension had finally been able to slip away. Unfortunatly, the moment didn't last. Joe turned his head upward towards a TV set in the corner of the waiting room. He could not beleive his eyes! There on the screen was none other than Brad Miller, looking pretty banged up still, his parents beside him. Joe moved closer to the screen to drown out the overhead elevator music and to hear the TV better....."Savage attack on the son of two prominate attorneys." The reporter announced. Then when the Millers were introduced to the crowd they began to tell the story of how an out of control boy at school had attacked their son apparently out of nothing more than jealousy.

Joe was once again starting to steam, they were not going to drag Vanessa through the mud! not to mention that it was not fair that he was suspended when he was just trying to protect his girl from that letch. The report went on to say that Joe Hardy, son of the famous Detective Fenton Hardy, was the perpretator. They even showed a picture of Joe..and not a very flattering one at that...then the Millers went onto say that they were going to demand an investigation into the boards decision not to expell Mr. Hardy..It even hinted of favortism. It was then Joe saw something that made his blood boil. A picture of Vanessa had been splashed across the screen, as the young woman who had started all the trouble by coming onto Mr. Miller in an obvious attempt to make her boyfriend Joseph Hardy Jealous! That was all Joe needed to hear, he looked at the door which seperated him from his parents. Quickly, Joe made a choice, one which effect the rest of his life, if not his sanity. Joe turned and NJJI8IU8CDRUFREC4E4TCKIFVGU out the door.

It then hit Frank that just mabey Callie might not be all that upset over Joes prediciment. \par Frank sighed and punched a number on his speed dial.\par A female voice came over the line. "Frank?!"\par " Hi vanessa" He began, knowing that vanessa must have recognized his number. \par "Francis Fenton Hardy! Where are you? I have been trying to reach you for ever!" Vanessa asked sternly. Her tone seemed to soften after noticing Franks silence. \par "Frank, Joe is in big trouble, He ....he really needs you" She continued her voice full of emotion. She\par had not slept since Thursday evening when she was told that Joe was being admitted to a private\par pychiatric facility for a evaluation. Frank could tell from her voice that she was exausted and also \par had been crying recently .\par " I am so sorry Van, The phone was here being charged, We used Ronnies all day, now please tell\par me everything. I really need to know what the hell is happening to Joe!" He cried.\par " ok, but Frank I feel like this who mess with the Millers is My fault" she began..he cut her off with a soft reply.\par "Look, It is just as much my fault than Vanessa"\par "You? why on earth would this be your fault Frank, you Are allowed to have some kind of life besides\par being big brother and protector to Joe. Frank, Joe was defending my honor from that Sleezy bully \par Brad Miller! " she shivered, recalling the scene, Then remembered something else as well.\par Vanessa began to give Frank a complete recount of everything which had happend after he left for the \par airport. She assured him that Joe was happy that Frank had this opportunity to enjoy himself and give\par them some much needed space for a few days. Vanessa had tears in her eyes as she told Frank about\par How Brad had "attacked" her which led to his confrontation with Joe. When she was finally finished, It\par was so silent over the line You could almost hear a pin drop. \par "Frank?" Vanessa asked, breaking the silence. Her voice was full of concern.\par "Sorry Van, I was just trying to calm down after hearing all that" Frank finally replied after swallowing\par the lump which was caught in his throat. \par "Listen, I will be coming home as soon as I can get on a plane ok? Where is Joe Now?" He asked.\par "Frank...".She began to cry again, her voice getting louder as despair theatend to take over.\par "Vanessa honey, you have to stop crying and tell me where my brother is" He ordered then regretted \par sounding so harsh. He heard a sniffle and a sigh before she finally answered.\par "Frank..I...I don't know where he is" she exclaimed tearfully.\par "What do you mean you don't know where he is Van? "\par "I am so sorry Frank but for some reason no one will tell me where My own boyfriend is!: she said as\par more tears began to fall from her pretty face. \par "Not even MY parents?" He inquired.\par "No Frank,Especially NOT your parents. IN fact they refused to tell anyone where he has been taken!"\par "Frank I really hate laying all this on you, but I need you! Joe needs you, Please come home fast"\par "vanessa I promise to be there as soon as possible" Frank replied trying to console her and perhaps himself as well. His parents better not even think about hiding Joes Where abouts from him, of course\par even if they did try they should realize that the detective in him would kick into gear and help him to find his little brother all on his own. They had a lot to answer for when he returned home Frank vowed. He assured Vanessa again that he would be home soon and hung up. \par \pard\qc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\par \par \pard Once Ronnie Pete was sure that Frank was fully engrossed in his phone conversation, He too picked up the portable Phone in the kitchen and quietly stepped outside. Frank had used his cell phone leaving the house phone Free. Ronnie took a deep breath then dialed a number.\par "Yeah, what do ya want?" A gruff voice answered. Ronnie Identifies himself . There was a brief pause\par over the line, followed by the soft voice of a female. \par "Well, What do you have for me MR. Pete? OH and you had better make this good Or else you know what will happen." the voice threatend. THe color faded from Ronnies Freckled face. He did not enjoy this at all, Frank was his friend and would probably be pissed with him, But There were some very serious circumstances here for him, All he was instructed to do was to keep Frank Hardy busy and far away from Bayport for a few days. Then his own world would be able to hopefully return to normal.\par What Ronnie didn't know was that he was merely a pawn in something much more dangerous. But for as far as He was concerned, He was just trying to protect his friend and his family from harm. \par "He is insisting on returning home as soon as possible" Ronnie admitted to the voice. There was a moment of silence.\par "No! We are not ready for him to retun just yet. DO whatever it takes to stall return trip home. Or you know what will happen Ronnie Baby! " Ronnie shuddered and acknowledged that her was well aware of Just what they promised to do to his loved ones if he did not cooperate. Ronnie heard a click then \par hung up his own phone. He was not sure just what he would do next, But something told hime that the woman had meant what she said But how on earth was he going to keep Frank from getting back to Bayport too quickly and even worse, discovering that he was being set. Ronnie felt so guilty. He took a deep breath again and went back inside. Looks like Frank is about to add one more name to that ever growing list of people who betrayed him and his Brother Ronnie thought, his head down, not\par daring to look Frank directly in the eyes. \par "Frank, you should eat" He recommended, Frank ran a hand through his gorgous dark hair, It had been such a long day so far which was no where near over. He had called the airport to check on flights, No such luck. "Darn! " he exclaimed after being told that there was no flights left. Then It\par hit Ronnie like a ton of Bricks , The answer was clear now. \par "Franky, don't worry, I tell you what, I will drive you back to Bayport ok?" Frank stood there thinking\par about this.\par "Ronnie, I can't ask you to do that." Frank began...\par "Nope I don't want to hear no for an answer, besides, I have been wanting to visit this little computer\par store they have out there" Ronnie hoped it was enough to convince even the detective in him,that there was something wrong about this whole mess! But there was no time to aurgue. Frank went and gathered all their bags while Ronnie went to the kitchen to write a note and pack a cooler full of soda,Juice water and snacks. They came back out into the living room at the same time. \par "well, all set? " Ronnie asked notting the rightfully concerned look in Franks eye. Frank nodded.\par "I will drive by the way, you look like you could use the time to do some planning and resting. OK?"\par Ronnie added. Frank yawned and nodded gratefully as his friend held the door for him. While Frank was loading the car Ronnie locked up the house and got in the drivers seat. \par Frank anxiously climbed into the passenger seat and from that point on Hardly spoke a word. First it was because the Older more serious minded of the Hardy Brothers had been trying to gather all the \par info he had been given so far about the "case" so far. Soon however, Frank found that his eyes had grown heavy and his head began to droop. Soon Frank Hardy had surrendered finally to a deep and much needed slumber. \par \par \par \par \i0\f1\fs20\par }

Chapter 3

Dr. Anthony Hill, sighed. It had been a long day so far, And this was barely afternoon. His stomach growled painfully. "Shoot" he remembered that he had only managed to eat a small breakfast bar.

He turned his attention back toward his silent patient. The Doctor frowned with concern. Joe Hardy from his file, as well as his reputation, seemed to be a very nice boy and very popular with most of the students from the area. A superb athlete whose team spirit has helped lead his team-mates to many a victory. However, Dr. Hill had also read his extensive medical file, police file and academic file.

Joeseph Hardy had been through so much in the first seventeen years of his life that Dr. Hill actually found himself wondering why he hadn't ended up here earlier. Then he remembered the one common thread in all his files; the one thing which had helped pull Joe Hardy from the depths of despair; his older brother, Frank. He also realized that Frank Hardy was the one person who had been absent during all the ruckus between Joe and the Millers.

"Joseph?" Dr. Hill began softly. Joe who had been sitting across from him with his head looking down at his hands, finally raised his head to face the doctor he was still unable to speak to for some reason.

Later the Doctor would discover that Joe's innability to speak was quite possibly triggered by a very traumatic experience where the boy's throat had been injured during an attack from a vicious serial killer. It had taken a long period of painfull recovery and counciling to recover from that particular incident. Then again, if Joe had indeed recovered fully then he probably would not be sitting across from the boy right now. Anthony could see that Joe was a good kid who just had way too much pain and insecurity to deal with.

Joe wanted to speak. He was just so upset and angry with the world right now. But even worse was the fact that he just could not get his mouth to speak the words he so desperatly needed to convey. Joe knew he had let everyone down again. He didn't blame his parents or Frank anymore.

The orderly who came into his room when he awoke, had returned a few more times. Each time he let Joe know just how much of a burden he was to everyone around him. Thinking that Joe was helpless to reply in his own defense, the barrage continued. Joe wondered if the doctor knew about this..something in his soft brown eyes told him no but Joe had decided long ago not to trust anyone. He of course had allowed his trust to Frank and Vanessa, mabey his parents, but with a heavy heart Joe now had some serious doubts about them as well.

"Where were they?" He cried to himself. The Doctor had informed him that it was now Saturday morning. He had been there since Thursday evening. Joe had not seen his family or any of his friends since Doctor Bates gave him that sedative and had him transferred by the police to the Weighnright Fascility that fatefull evening. Joe still didn't even fully realize what had occured but from what he had been told, it had been enough to not only land him in this place, but to seriously endanger the reputaion of his family. Aurgh! he sighed inwardly, his hand flew to his eye to stop a guilty tear from sliding down his handsome face. Dr. Hill however did not miss the scene.

"Where is my son!"Fenton Hardy demanded. His hands balled into tight fists which were leaning on Ezra Colligs' desk. Fenton's dark brown eyes were fixed on the cheif's hazel ones.

"Fenton! If I told you once I told you twice! I don't know what you are talking about?" Collig replied. Completely confused he returned Fenton's with his own unwavering gaze which for some reason told Fenton that he was telling the truth. Fenton backed down abrubtly, very confused, his concern grew.

"What do you mean you don't know what I am talking about Ezra? Were you not the last person to see Joe?" Fenton asked. Colligs face took on a look of vague recallection but before he could reply to Fenton his hand came to his head, this was followed by a scream of pain. Fenton rushed over to aid his friend as the door burst open revealing Con Reilly and a few other officers all with their guns drawn. When Con and the others had heard their Chief scream out they had assumed that Fenton had attacked Collig. Con ordered a few officers to follow him in. Con Knew the whole Hardy family very well, and knew there was much more to this whole mess than meets the eye. However, he also knew just how far a parent would go to protect their families.

"Con, Call 911!" Fenton Hardy ordered as he helped the chief to a comfortable leather couch, Con didn't hesitate. He turned to an officer and nodded. The officer immediatly picked up the phone and dialed 911.

Con looked up and saw Carmen Miller standing in the door way, Frustrated he turned away and faced Fenton who was applying a wet cloth to Collig he caught his eye and nodded his head toward the door. "Fenton, I will have to ask you to step away from the Chief very carefully." A look of confusion and frustration came over fenton which was then replaced by understanding once he saw that Carmen Miller was present. He obediently stepped away from the couch and allowed an officer to escort him to a soft leather chair that matched the couch perfectly to take his statement. Con himself moved back to allow the EMTs to do their job. He called the officer who was watching Fenton,to come over and wispered something in his ear. The EMTs finished getting Ezra ready for transport and took off, the officer followed him out shutting the door after him, much to Carmen Millers Chargin.

When Con was finally sure that Miller was out of ear shot, he sat down at the chief's desk. Turning his attention toward a perplexed Fenton Hardy.

"Mind telling me what the heck just happend?" Con asked angrily. He started to add something else, when he was interrupted by a knock on the door. The door opened to reveal a tall striking woman with dark skin and Long ebony hair which was pulled back in a pony tail. She introduced herself as Marissa Chetwynn attorney @ Law. Fenton rose to offer his hand as did Con. Fenton introduced her as the lawyer assigned to Joe's case.

"Fenton, I do hope you haven't done or said anything without me present," She warned. But from the mood and buzz at the station she had already deduced that something big had already occured. Hopefully, it did not damage Joe's Case.

Fenton Hardy looked at her sheepishly. He was already impressed with Marissa's track record, plus the law firm which represents his family had recomended that she be assigned to the case following her recent sucession of wins. He hoped that they were right about her. Fenton needed her, but even more importantly Joe needed her .

Frank was jarred awake when the car suddenly made a sharp turn. A groggily look around told him that Ronnie had turned off the road and into a rest area. He jumped up in his seat. "Why are we stopping? We have to get back to Bayport as soon as possible!" Frank exclaimed.

Ronnie shot his friend a sympathetic look. "I can give you a few good reasons why buddy," He chuckled trying to lighten Frank's mood. Frank stared at him impatiently.

"Gas,food,thirst oh and um...nature had other plans pal," Ronnie hoped Frank would not be able to tell that he was leaving something else out. He also hoped Frank would at least try to smile. Frank sighed and followed Ronnie out of the car. He did have to use the bathroom after all, but he hoped the pain in his stomach was not another warning that Joe was in danger.

They finished whatever they had to do and returned to the car each holding a bag in their hands filled with enough food for the ride home. Frank had also taken the time to check in with Vanessa and Callie who was not to happy that he had not called her first. Frank was not happy at all when he was told that no one has heard any news about Joe. He was also told about what happend at police headquarters ending with Chief Collig being sent to Bayport General after a visit from his father.

"What?! " He excaimed when Callie was done. Frank now realized that he had to get home as soon as possible, even more so now. "Want me to drive the rest of the way?"Frank offered.

Ronnie Shook his head warily and headed for the passenger seat. He did feel a little sick himself after all. Frank noticed Ronnie's skin turned pale.

"Ok buddy, spill! You have been acting kinda weird since we left, way too quiet man." Frank inquired of his newest friend.

Ronnie felt a wave of nausea build up and his hand raced to his mouth causing him to suddenly rush from the passenger seat to a nearby trash can. Some people nearby wrinkled their noses and moved away as he continued to expell whatever food he had eaten that day. Frank came over to Ronnie with a wet nap which he accepted gratefully. When he was sure he felt better, Ronnie returned to the passenger seat and got in slowly. Frank's eyes never left his friend's face. Frank was sure there was something going on that Ronnie was not telling. It was nice of him to offer to drive back with him. But why? He hardly knew Joe. Hmmm...The wheels in Frank's head had begun to spin. He got in behind the wheel and started to take off back on the interstate.

"Frank stop for a second," Ronnie asked in a small voice. Frank stopped the car trying to keep his patience, yet also sensing that whatever Ronnie had been hiding it might have something to do with the mess back home. He looked across the seat at him; Ronnie's head was looking down, his eyes fixed on his twidling hands.

"Frank please forgive me, but I have not really been completely honest with you," Ronnie Pete began terror and guilt filling his face. Frank gripped the steering wheel as the person next to him continued to explain how he was being threatend to keep Frank away from home as long as possible; how he tried to find out why but was told not to even think about telling you or anyone else, (which would explain the fear) . When he had finished Frank sat in silence trying to process what he had just heard.

He then drew in a deep breath released it and faced a now shaking Ronnie. He shook his head. Frank then started the car and pulled back out into traffic. "Ronnie?" Frank finally spoke in a tight voice.

"Yeah Frank?" Ronnie replied fearing that crap was about to hit the fan.

"Why did you decide to finally tell me ?" Frank inquired his voiced evenly.

"Because you have been a better friend than I have been, and because I really don't want to be a part of any plot against your brother. He's a really cool guy. That Joe and deserves a break. Frank I am so sorry." Ronnie answered after releasing the deep breath he had been holding in for so long.

" I forgive you. But If you want to remain friends then next time please let me know? I promise to do as much as I can to help keep your family safe capeche?"

"Yeah! Are we still friends, Frank?" Frank breathed deeply then replied.

"

Hey, if we weren't you would probably still be at the rest stop."

"But it's my car?" He answered then noticed that for the first time since hearing about this whole mess, FranK Hardy had finally smiled.

"I know" He answered. They rode on in silence.

Chapter 4

"Dellusions"

Joe could not wait to get out of the Doctors watchful scrutiny, but he did not want to deal with Stan orderly either. Of course this was the last place he wanted to be period. The Doctor had ordered Stan who had been waiting in the hall to escort Joe back to his room. Stan nodded and came to stand by Joe's side,shooting him with a nasty glance. Joe decided to ignore it,wondering if the Doctor had by chance caught the look, but Dr. Hill was already engulfed in his notes. Joe shrugged sighing and left with Stan the orderly right on his heels.

When they got to his room Joe started towards his bed, but suddenly a large arm snaked around his throat. Joe had no time to react to his attacker which Joe believed was Stan, pulled him toward the empty chair in the room. Joe meanwhile had been struggling to breathe. His throat hurt as well. The man let go finally but only to shove Joe hard into the chair. Too hard for Joe's head connected with the corner of the chair causing him to see even more stars then before. Joe could feel a wave of dizziness creep over him, Joe felt blackness begin to swirl over him. Before he could give in to it however, A hand connected with his stomach, Joe was jolted back to conscienceness.

"Knock it off! You know what the boss said!" A voice that Joe recognized as Stans called out. Joe still felt out of it, but his vision had begun to clear which revealed not only Stan but at least two other big bruisers! Joe also found that he had been tied to the arms of the chair and that his head hurt like hell. His throat still hurt especially when he tried to speak out. Joe decided that this might be the best time to just listen and hopefully learn as much about his "captors" as possible, especially this "Boss" that Stan reffered to. Joe wanted to know who the boss was not to mention why there was an order given reguarding his health.

"Ok guys, we have to hurry this up. The doctor will be making rounds soon. The boss said he was to be kept out of this job!" Stan ordered glancing at the door. Joe noticed the other two men,one tall, blonde and beefy with green eyes which almost reminded Joe of an older Biff Hooper, while the other one was shorter, stockier with a short cropped head and blue eyes,Stan however towered over them by at least an inch and was much less massive. He had sandy hair and brown eyes which were fixed on the door at the moment.

The dark haired one came over to where Joe was leaned in as close as possible to Joe's handsome face which had grown quite pale recently. Joe wanted to spit in his face but the ripples on this guys forearms warned him not to . Instead he just scowled at the man. This got a laugh out of the man whose breath was as strong as his aftershave. Obviously the man had just came from lunch Joe deduced from the garlicy smell which caused Joe to wrinkle his nose in disgust. The man's laughter stopped abruptly, feplaced by a deadly serious expression,which almost unnerved Joe. The man grabbed Joe by his face and stroked it. Joe flinched and tried to move away.

"So your the Pretty Boy detective the Boss wants so badly hmmm..." Joe did his best to not let his fear and revulsion at this man's touch show. The big man continued."Sure your a looker but what is the big deal about you anyway Junior G-man?" He asked. Joe thought that maybe it was a good thing that he couldn't speak right now, because his mouth would probably get him into even more trouble if he was able to give the reply he wanted. Actually he wanted to shove this chair up his posterior and run like hell out of this place. But then again Joe was also quite intrigued requarding this "Boss"and why was he so important?" At least I'm important to someone." he thought with a heavy heart.

"Hey Greg, will you lay off the merchandise!" The blonde one ordered. "Just get the sample" He added. The dark haired man Joe now knew as Greg rubbed his chin again before rising and going to a tray near by which held a bottle, syringe, a test tube, rubber arm band, a palstic bag and the sharp looking tool he now held in his stubby fingers. A wicked smile crossed his face as he approached Joe with the tool. Joe instinctively stiffend as he grew close. Joe tried to break from his bonds but couldn't.

"Hold still pretty boy, this will only hurt for a while" He teased. "Hey Brian man, wanna come here and hold this kid down...actually never mind I have an even better idea."

He turned around going back to the tray and placed the instrument back down on the sterile enviroment. "Oops, almost forgot my gloves," he added playfully putting the latex gloves over his hands. Greg then picked up the bottle and syringe. He placed the needle into the bottle extracting a certain amount of the clear fluid. Then when he was satisfied with the amount Greg turned back to Joe whose eyes went wild at the sight of the big man coming toward him to inject him with God knows what. Joe again tried to scream for help. His voice failed him once again however he did manage to mouth a few curse words which really should not be spoken out loud anyway before the sharp painfull prick of the needled violated Joe's arm. Joe's eyes widened as hot liquid began to flow into his body and mind as the now familiar haze of darkness had once again consumed him. Joe Hardy slumped into unconscienceness.

"Good he shouldn't any trouble for us anymore," Greg said gleefully, "Too bad, I wanted to play with him some more" he added to the sick looks of his friends. Then returning to his work Greg once again picked up the scapple he had put down earlier and once again turned back to the unmoving form before him.

~~~~~~~~~~
It was pretty late by the time Frank and Ronnie turned into the Hardy drive. Though Frank was not suprised to see a light still burning, he was all too aware that sleep was not something that came easy in the Hardy household when one or more of them were in trouble. Frank just wondered why it ususally had to happen to Joe. Sure he had been through his own share of horrific experiences, especially the time he had been kidnapped last year. He shuddered not wanting to remember how he was tortured and left for dead. Frank also remembered how Joe had found him and somehow Joe had managed to carry an injured Frank to the nearest hospital, through a heatwave. Frank still had no idea how his brother though,a strong athlete in his own right, could have found the strength to have done so.
What Frank didn't know was that after Joe dropped Frank off at the ER, he collapsed from the heat and exaustion. Joe had recovered enough before Frank awoke from the coma the Doctors had induced to help his injuries heal better. Joe knew that Frank being the big brother and protector would forget about his own health needs and dote on Joe's. So for Frank's sake Joe simply decided not to burden his brother with the news, But Laura and Fenton had also deducted that Joe, who had been growing more and more insecure had believed himself weak for collapsing. Joe always felt he had to be the Super Hero of the family. But lately he doubted that he was worthy of much at all.
The curtain in the front window opened revealing Laura Hardy's pretty blonde face. First when she saw Ronnie's car she had been a bit worried as to who would be coming over so late at night. But her tired eyes brightend as they fell upon the figure of her dark haired oldest son. Immediatly she smiled and ran to open the front door.
"Frank!! Your home!" She exclaimed as he entered followed by red headed Ronnie Pete. But Laura hadn't noticed Ronnie's presence yet as she raced into his arms. Frank was not sure how he would react, but the sight of his mother clinging to him tearfully had brougt things more into perspective.
He instinctively rubbed the distraught woman's back and stroked her long blonde hair. She looked up at her tall oldest child who looked just like her husband Fenton, only a younger version. While at the same time Frank had suprisingly found comfort as he looked at his mothers features which were a mirror of Joe's, except perhaps for the difference in the blue shades of thier eyes, his mothers now wet with tears, were much lighter than Joe's sparkling ones, Joe's greatest physical attribute.
For a moment Frank forgot he was so angry with her and his father. Then after a moment it all came back to him like a ton of Bricks . He stepped away from his mother. It was then that she noticed that Ronnie was there, looking somewhat awkward for witnessing such a tender moment between mother and son. "Why hello Ronnie!" She smiled trying to be gracious. She gave him a tired smile when he waved.
"Hello Mrs, H," Ronnie began he looked from her to Frank and felt that he should give them some privacy. "UM..I think I will go get the bags..Frank toss me the keys man" Frank acknowledged with a nod and added a thanks.
When Ronnie left Frank turned all his attention to his mom, "Ok mom I want to know everything! what did you and Dad do to my brother?"
A Hardy Boys Fan Fiction
disclaimer: Ok guys, I hope you are enjoying this bit of fluff. I hope I don't get sued (or criticized on the M.S. post. Just kidding lol ) I have no connection to anything Hardy or Boy..hmmm..mabey they could change the title to "Hardy MEN?" ok, Just trying. But I do claim rights to just about all the original Charcters in this story. If you wanna use em just drop a coin in my piggy Bank ok! lol :) anyway, as I said before except for my very weird obsession with becoming the next Joseph Hardy (The adult version that is) ok. Now back to the fun. OH and my search for a competent Psychologist. Sigh..never can find a good shrink when you need one.
PART FIVE:
Ronnie had been pulling Frank's duffle bag out of the back seat when a fire engine red porche pulled up to the drive way behind Laura's black SUV. Ronnie stepped back and shut the door shielding his eyes from the cars headlight. The car stopped and a handsome man got out and headed for the red haired boy. Ronnie knew this had to be Fenton Hardy from fact that the man was an older version of Frank. He quickly introduced himself accepting the hand that Fenton offered in greeting.
Ronnie did his best to explain the situation including his part in the whole mess. Fenton ran a hand through his dark hair. This too was something that Frank inherited From his father. Fenton sighed.
"I am so sorry that you were threatend. I promise to make a few calls to some of my contacts in Boston. They'll check in on your family and make sure they are looked after. Ronnie breathed a sigh of relief. He had no reason to doubt the word of THE Fenton Hardy. Ronnie apolgozied again for what he was forced to do. Fenton placed an arm around the guilty looking youngster reassuring him that it would be alright. After all Ronnie had proved to be a good friend to his son by not going through with what he was supposed to do, even though he was terrified for his families safety. Fenton led the boy inside the house. The handsome detective braced himself for the eventual onslaught of his oldest son's wrath.
Laura Hardy sat on the living room couch facing her rapidly growing impatient oldest child. Frank's brown eyes bore into hers. He was still seething not to mention hurt by his parents actions while he was gone. But what worried Frank most of all was the fact that he still had no idea where Joe was. Laura began to speak but the front door burst open revealing Fenton and Ronnie each holding a bag.
Frank got up. Their eyes met, Laura noticed it was like two mirror images, both staring the other down. Until Ronnie broke the connection feeling awkward.
"Hey Frank? Where would you like me to put these bags man?" He asked. Laura jumped up grateful for the interruption. She took the boys hand and led him into the kitchen throwing a concerned glance toward her husband and son. Laura hoped to God that they don't end of loosing Both their sons love.
"Come on dear let's get you settled" Laura offered, smiling at Ronnie " You can call your parents too if you wish,they must be worried about you dear, besides,those two need to have a little time alone." she wispered the last bit Ronnie nodded in agreement.
"Well then please lead the way pretty lady" Laura stifled an amused giggle. Noting that Ronnie may have been Frank's friend but he was much more like Joe. Her heart fell as she remembered how much she missed her youngest son, who she still thought of as her "Baby". Gawd! She wanted the old Joe Back! She wanted Joe back period.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Why DAD?! why did you do it!" Frank who was the first one to speak after the long staring match got old. His father had his head in his hands, He was now sitting at the Dining room table. Fenton had wanted to run to his son and hold him tightly, apologizing for not calling him right away, his motives at the time had made so much sense. Allow Frank to enjoy a much needed break, while his parents made sure that Joe was looked after. Joe had also needed a break. He was so tired of everyone watching his every move. Fenton could see that in Joes eyes and his often rebellious actions. He could also recall many nights when he heard his "Baby boy" pacing around the house because he could not get to sleep. Fenton was terrified that he was slowly loosing his youngest child and now it looked like there was a chance he may have just lost not one but Both of his childrens respect and love.

"Frank, Please..Let me explain" His father started, Frank and Joe had not really seen as much of their father as they would have liked to but Fenton Hardy was without question a wonderfull parent as was their mother. He had never lied to his sons. There were however times when Fenton was on a case or there was some kinda threat on their lives when Fenton withheld information from them, especially when he was certain his young detectives apprentices would probably go charging out to face the danger head on if anyone they loved was in peril.

"Ok, Dad, I'm listening" Frank said taking a deep cleansing breath to calm himself. Joe was the one who had the hotshot temper of the two, however whenever Joe was in trouble anyone blocking Frank's way to help him had best beware. Frank listened to his father as he brought him up to date. Fenton left nothing out. When he got to the part about the cheif being in the hospital Frank gasped. His father assured him that Collig was alright but that per orders Fenton Fenton was not allowed in or near his hospital room.

"Con promised me he would keep me updated on his status. What worries me is why he collapsed when I tried to get the name of the clinic where Joe was being held" Fenton said a frustrated look on his face. Frank jumped up and started pacing around as his father watched him knowing full well that once again the wheels were quickly turning in his head. Frank was the more logical brother who liked to think things through. suddenly he raised his head as if in alarm.

"Frank what is it? something wrong?"Frank shook his head running for the stairs.

"No dad, I am as fine as can be, well, at least I think I will be if Callie finds out I am home and I didn't even call her yet" He answered. His father breathed a sigh of relief and for the first time in a while his face broke into a smile.

"OH boy you got that right son! Your Miss Shaw would not stand for such neglagence." He teased, but he could already hear Franks bedroom door closing.

Frank closed his door and went to the portable phone in the bathroom he shared with Joe. He hoped that Callie would understand why he didn't inform her about his sudden return home. Especially given the curcumstances. He shrugged and clicked on the power button. But to his suprise he heard voices on the other line talking about what was happening so far. Frank could feel a surge of anger and also betrayal as he recognized Ronnie's voice. " He must be on the phone in the guest room" Frank thought to himself. He dared not to breath so as to not be detected for he wanted to hear as much of what they were saying then he would march into his so called friends room and throw him out of his home.

"Well, well, Mr. Pete. It seems as if you didn't take our threats seriously. You do realize we are a very sophisticated group Ronnie, Did you really think we would not have found a way to know everything that was being said?" the voice went on. Ronnie's breathe became heavy. his voice shook as he spoke.

"Look! I called you because I wanted to let you know that I am not going to help you hurt my friends anymore. I should have told Frank about it right away. Do you hear me? I am finished dealing with you creeps!" Ronnie cried loudly. Too loudly for Fenton had heard that part of the conversation and was now standing at the doorway to the guest room. Ronnie placed a quiet finger to his lips to let him know that he had to be very quiet.

Fenton left the room quietly, going to his study, There he pressed a button on the phone on his desk. Instantly a tape player started whirring silently. Fenton then went back to where Ronnie was and motioned for the boy to keep the conversation going. Ronnie gave Fenton a no problem sign with his hand. "My aren't we the brave lad Mr. Pete" The husky male voice continued. " You do realize that you have just traded your families welfare for some people you hardly know? I hope your pretty little sister is forgiving of you."

Ronnies face lost all it's color. "DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH MY SISTER !" Ronnie Pete shouted into the phone. Fenton was already on his cell phone contacting both the Boston Police and the Pete Family.
