girls claim state title
The Hoxie High
School Lady Mustangs claimed the 2002 Class A-AAAA state slow-pitch
softball championship with a 14-4 win over Stamps Yellowjackets.
For two years, the team had suffered losses in the state semifinals
game.
The team won the county, district and regional titles and finished
with a 24-1 record, falling only once to Marmaduke, 10-3, midseason.
This was Hoxie's first statewide win in any sport since a 1979
girls state track and field title.
Members of the team were: Kristen Myers, Brittany Richey, Krystan
Dorton, Jodi Kopp, Brianna Segraves, Amanda Roberts, Randi LeBlanc,
Brittany Smith, Cortney Goodwin, Nikita Quigley, Liz Hancock,
Ashley Brewer, Kathleen Sullivan, Kasi Truxler, Brittany Hancock,
Koby Lane, Jessica Rivera, Sara Simmons and Sara Tate. The girls
were coached by Judy Goodwin with the help of assistant coach
Matt Scarbrough.
