Components of Humanities

Humanities:
The branches of learning (as philosophy, arts, or languages) that investigate human constructs and concerns as opposed to natural processes (as in physics or chemistry) and social relations (as in anthropology or economics).

History:
A chronological record of significant events (as affecting a nation or institution) often including an explanation of their causes.
An established record (a prisoner with a history of violence).
A branch of knowledge that records and explains past events (medieval history)
Events that form the subject matter of a history.

Art:
Also called fine arts - modes of expression that use skill or imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others.

Literature:
The production of literary work especially as an occupation.
Writings in prose or verse; especially : writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest, or an example of such writings.
The body of written works produced in a particular language, country, or age.
The body of writings on a particular subject: (Scientific literature): printed matter (as leaflets or circulars). (Campaign literature).
The aggregate of a usually specified type of musical compositions.

Society:
An enduring and cooperating social group whose members have developed organized patterns of relationships through interaction with one another.
A community, nation, or broad grouping of people having common traditions, institutions, and collective activities and interests.
A part of a community that is a unit distinguishable by particular aims or standards of living or conduct; a social circle or a group of social circles having a clearly marked identity.
A part of the community that sets itself apart as a leisure class and that regards itself as the arbiter of fashion and manners.

Culture:
The act of developing the intellectual and moral faculties, especially by education.
Enlightenment and excellence of taste acquired by intellectual and aesthetic training: acquaintance with and taste in fine arts, humanities, and broad aspects of science as distinguished from vocational and technical skills.
The integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon man's capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations.
The customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group.
The set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes a company or corporation.

Socio-economic:
Of, relating to, or involving a combination of social and economic factors.

Film/Motion Picture:
A series of pictures projected on a screen in rapid succession with objects shown in successive positions slightly changed so as to produce the optical effect of a continuous picture in which the objects move.
A representation (as of a story) by means of motion pictures.

Summary:
History, art, literature, society, culture, socio-economics and film all have in common one thing - they all involve people – whether a historical figure is the cause of a major event, whether it is a work of art for others to enjoy for generations (such as a film), a book that educates or entertains succeeding generations by recounting history or providing a glimpse into how society lived at the time of its writing.  History recounts the events, educating us into how a society functioned and its social and economic structure.  A work of art (including film) is tangible evidence of a society and its impact on culture.  Socio-economics impact the culture (or lack thereof) of a society, and its education; thereby, its ability to record history, and create art or literature.
