Tia Carrere, the Hawaiian-born actress / singer, was
discovered in true Hollywood fashion. While shopping in a grocery store, she
was approached by an elderly couple whose son was about to start shooting a
coming-of-age film called "Aloha summer" and needed a young actress for the
starring role. Tia landed that role, put the money in her pocket, and headed
for Los Angeles. She did a brief stint as a print and commercial model and,
a few months later, landed a regular role on the daytime soap "General
Hospital". In recent years, Tia's repertoire has included a variety of
starring roles. She was the mysterious computer scientist alongside Sean
Connery and Wesley Snipes in "Rising Sun"; in the James Cameron film "True
Lies" she was the international art smuggler out to get Arnold
Schwarzenegger; and, of course, she was the rock'n roll singer "Cassandra"
who stole America's heart in "Wayne's World" and Wayne's World 2". In 1997
and 1998 Tia played a witch-queen in "Kull the Conqueror", a disillusioned
single in "Meet Prince Charming", an unfulfilled housewife in "Five Acres"
with Charlie Sheen, and herself in a hilarious cameo in Fox Searchlight's
recent release "20 Dates" which Tia also exec-produced. Tia and her husband
Elie Samaha formed Phoeniciiciian Films which has produced an astonishing
number of projects, some of which Tia has starred in. January 2000 will find
Tia starring in "SHI" - A film based on the best-selling comic book. Also,
this year will mark Tia's foray into prime-time television with her new
series "Relic Hunter"--a female Indiana Jones-type character. When she's not
filming, Tia enjoys a successful music career. Besides performing on
numerous soundtracks such as "Wayne's World", "Across the Tracks", Kenny
Harlin's "Angel City", "Batman - Mask of the Phantasm" and television's
adaptation of Disney's "The Little Mermaid". Tia also has a rising solo
career which began with the release of her debut solo album "Dream" on the
Warner / Reprise label. Tia is currently in the studio writing and recording
songs for her follow-up record for Interscope Records with producer Ralph
Schuckett of Joan Osbourne and Sophie B. Hawkins fame. Tia's worldwide
popularity as a major movie actress and her career as a recording artist
promise to make the coming years truly fulfilling for her many loyal fans. |
