1808 MATHEW CAREY BIBLE
Same page pagination as
Isaac Collins 1791 Bible

Hills #152: 1808, 1 vol: (4) (676) (6) 835-1080 (40) 242 x 182 mm.. The Apocrypha is pages 681-834.

This Bible has John Brown's Concordance, 72 pages. Also see Hills #112 & #31 for the fascinating history of this Bible.

This is the exact same page pagination as Isaac Collins 1791 Bible (Hills 31) which is 247 x 177 mm. I have verified this. Every page starts and ends the same as the Collins Bible - the only difference is some hyphenation.. It was known as the most exact text. Even Webster in 1833 used this text. However the error in 1 Timothy 4:16 has been corrected in Carey's edition.

Carey published a new edition (Hills 112) in 1803 in quarto (243 x 185 mm) from this standing type. The format of the text -- 1046 with added material to 1080 is the same as Collins.

This 1808 Bible (Hills 152) is similar to the 1804, also same page pagination as Colins. All of Carey's Bibles in this format contain 5 or 10 maps and 6, 15 or 20 engravings. This 1808 contains 10 maps and 20 engravings.

This is a picture of the back, spine and front. As you can see there is much wear, but solid boards.

This is the side edge of the Bible which shows the quality of its condition.

These two pictures are the top and bottom edges of the Bible, again, showing condition.

This Bible has twenty full page plates engravings. 12 of the engravings are signed by C. Tiebout while the others are not signed. The various engravings are from Genesis 45:3; 1 Samuel 7:5,6; 1 Kings 18:4; Daniel 12:5; Matthew's picture; Matthew 2:11; Matthew 3:1,2; Matthew 8:13; Matthew 10:5,7,8; Matthew 24:2; Matthew 25:30; Matthew 26:14,15; Mark's picture; Mark 5:34; Luke 1:28; John's Picture; John 13:5; Luke 17:12,13; Acts 3:6

There are two fold out maps and eight plate maps. Frontispiece, Canaan, Eqypt, Moses journey, Solomon, Sheba, Apostles. The map on page 635 is missing 1/2 of the plate.

The family pages contain a lot of history. On the Marriage page there are 16 Brown family marriages dating from 1780-1870. On the birth pages (2) there are 24 Brown family births listed dating from 1781-1805 and 1827-1857. On the death page there are 17 Brown family members dating from 1782-1874.

In addition there are several pieces of paper with another 40 or so births and deaths noted. All-in-all a tremendous Brown genealogy history.

Condition: good condition - see pictures. Both covers are attached and pages are tight and turn very easy without damage..
