| The Surname Burris in our family comes from my Little Granny, Josephine Burris. She had eleven brothers and sisters that I know of, all of which were either born in Independence county Arkansas or different parts of Texas. Joseph, their father spelled his name Burress on all of the records I've found, but for some reason they changed the spelling to Burris with the children. I don't have a lot of information on this branch of the family tree. Please contact me if you can add anything. Here are the names of the eleven children: Martha Ann, Bessie E., Margaret Cecilia, James Walter, Florence V., John Roger, Josephine F. and her twin brother Joseph, William Henry, Daniel Layfayette, Albert W. and Minnie M.
