The One And Only MURRAY WALKER |
Murray Walker, was born in 1923, after a few years in the army, Murray's commentating career began in 1949, after following in his father footsteps. Murray's first formula 1 broadcast was for the British Grand Prix the same year with Max Robertson. The BBC, did not cover all Grand Prix. in fact they did not cover ALL the Grand Prix until 1978, as by then it was now obvious it was very popular due to the 1976 world championship win by the late James Hunt. But he did not attend every race, he commentated in his london studio, watching the race in much the same way we were seeing it on a tv screen! During the eighties murray had a new "sidekick" that of James Hunt, and the two of them had a 'rapport' that even until this day has never been filled by anyone else. Murray did not attend the races with his crew until the mid-nighties as the budgets grew bigger. Everyone who knows Murray speaks very highly of him, he has in particular a couple of special relationships with the last 2 British world champions, that of Nigel Mansell, and Damon Hill, With nigel referring to Murray as 'Dad', and Murray referring to Nigel as 'our Nige'. When Damon hill won the World Championship for Williams in 1996, Murray could barely talk as Damon crossed the finishing line and came out with the words ' and i have to stop there as i have a lump in my throat' Believe me, his emotion made our house emotional as well. Why do we love Murray Walker so much? Could it be his wisdom?, the amount of knowledge he has is unbelievable, His gaffs?, oh come on, they are hilarious you'll laugh with him when he makes them, and remember them for a long time to come. His warmth? He comes over as such a warm person, that you feel as if you actually know him personally. Thats When you know, that you have taken this extrordinary man into your hearts. Murray has now retired as a commentator, and i must say F1 will never be the same again. Murray Walker IS Formula 1. |

'Unless I'm very much mistaken...I Am very much mistaken! This is an interesting circuit because it has inclines , and not just up, but down as well. This has been a great season for Nelson Piquet , as he is known, and always has been. And the first five places are filled by five different cars. ...Cruel luck for Alesi, second on the grid. That's the first time he had started from the front row in a Grand Prix , having done so in Canada earlier this year... "...and he's lost both right front tyres" "Andrea de Cesaris...the man who has won more Grands Prix than anyone else without actually winning one of them."
