The sports press focus on
the partnership of Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero today, with
the Corriere dello Sport giving plenty of space to the duo, who are apparently
sworn friends. Its headline is unambiguous: "United in arms for Juve's
cause". Both players proceed to tell the Rome-based daily, "Criticism we
can take, but not all the cruel jibes; we will reply in kind by doing what
we do best on Sunday in Bologna." The Piacenza-born striker and brother
of Lazio's Simone has this to say: "There's no petty jealousy; when we
were both scoring at will two years ago, it was better for us and Juve.
Why should we start arguing now?" Del Piero echoes his team-mate's words:
"The only ingredient missing against Milan and Lazio was the final result."
There is more of the same
in the Gazzetta dello Sport, its headline a confidence-boosting "We bring
each other luck". The Milan football pink highlights the anger of both
players at unfounded rumours regarding their understanding both on and
off the pitch. "So much nonsense is written about us, but we will show
what we are made of once and for all on Sunday." Filippo Inzaghi adds this
to the dose: "It's wrong to say that we are selfish players. There is no
jealousy and we will prove on Sunday that we play for the good of the team
and not as individuals."
Tuttosport is also in conciliatory
mood, its headline: " Alex - Pippo, peace." Both players are keen to set
the record straight in the Turin-based daily and insist that there have
never been problems between the two of them. Giovanni Agnelli, Juve's owner
and industrial magnate, also gets in on the act and spurs the Bianconeri
on to Scudetto glory.
