Alessandro Del Piero and
Edwin Van der Sar gave a 'footballing lesson' to a group of Italian and
foreign journalists and photographers at the Comunale on Monday. They were
there to promote the new Adidas boot, Equipment Predator, Precision. It
was a successful and enjoyable morning for all, notwithstanding the morning
downpour. Also present was Inter stalwart Javier Zanetti, who despite the
defeat to Juventus the previous night joked and 'worked' alongside the
two Juve men. Everyone - including journalists and photographers - was
ready and kitted out on the pitch at the Comunale for 11 o'clock (CET).
They were under the guidance of the Bianconero coaching staff, led by Giampiero
Ventrone, and for once, rather than commenting on the play, they learnt
some of the tricks of the trade from the inside. The guests underwent a
number of different activities, beginning with a warm-up. They were then
divided into groups to experience at first hand the proverbial 'tortures'
of a training session.
There were also some valuable
lessons from Del Piero about how to strike free-kicks. He helped the journalists
with technique and placing the ball and he corrected the errors with a
display of great patience.
For those who wanted to try
out their penalty-taking, Van der Sar was ready and willing to be tested.
Although the Dutchman also took a few of his own, with Zanetti taking his
place between the posts. The Inter man even managed to save one, although
Van der Sar - who has scored a penalty for Ajax before - was not to be
denied for long.
Also among the guests were
the band Lunapop, who are sponsored by Adidas. A spokesman for the group
- a Bologna supporter - was full of praise for Juventus, as well as for
the players who had made themselves available for the event.
