Tuttosport begins with transfer
talk: "Juve, here comes Campbell." After negotiations between Manchester
United and the Tottenham Hotspur and England defender reached a dead end,
the suggestion is that "the Bianconeri are renewing their interest" in
Sol Campbell. The Turin daily continues, "There will also be a meeting
on Monday with Udinese over the transfers of Marco Zanchi and Giuliano
Giannichedda."
The Gazzetta dello Sport
writes: "Udinese start the bidding war between Inter, Milan and Parma for
Stefano Fiore. He is worth an estimated Lit.50 Billion [£16m]." There
is also a comment on the international set-up: "France are already in good
form beating Croatia by two goals. The World Champions, with Zidane their
inspiration, score through Pires and Trezeguet." Meanwhile Gianluca Zambrotta
describes Italy as a "drifting mine", and in Holland Edgar Davids undergoes
an operation on an ingrowing toenail and will be out of training for eight
days.
The Corriere dello Sport
highlights the players in danger of being excluded from Dino Zoff's final
22: "Iuliano or Pancaro is the only decision yet to be made," we read.
The paper also covers the thoughts of Alessandro Del Piero: "I'm not convinced
Zoff has decided to go with the pairing of Inzaghi and Montella. All I
am asking the coach is that he let me play. The five Italian front men
have scored few goals between them in the last few months. We are saving
the goals for the European Championships." There is also news that Del
Piero will soon have his own Internet site.
