"Del Piero: enough is enough"
is the headline in today's Corriere dello Sport, which sets the tone for
the rest of the news.
After months of speculation
about his form and fitness, Alessandro Del Piero can take no more. "I've
been hammered by everyone. Only Juve and the fans have stood by me," moans
the player. This after reported 'deliver or else' ultimatums from club
president Gianni Agnelli and Azzurri coach Giovanni Trapattoni.
The Gazzetta dello Sport
also revives the lament. The fantasista is more than aware of the criticism,
saying: "I have to fight against all the bad things said about me. Such
as when people say I was the reason Italy lost at Euro 2000." According
to the Milan-based daily, Del Piero is ready to prove everybody wrong.
Trapattoni enters the debate
in Tuttosport. "He was fairly sharp in training and we must get off his
back," warns the trainer. So the subtext of his comments about players
not delivering wasn't about our Alex after all?
The Turin paper also delves
into the transfer pot with the claim that the Bianconeri would like to
sign Fabio Cannavaro. Who wouldn't, Mr Moggi, who wouldn't?
