The main story in today's
sports press concerning the Bianconeri centres on Athirson's first appearance
for his new club, even if only in a practice match.
The Gazzetta dello Sport
leads with, "Here's Athirson." Michele Paramatti plays it cool, "I'm used
to competition."
The Corriere dello Sport
highlights an incident between Alex Del Piero and some fans. As he was
signing some autographs, Juve's number 10 was insulted by a young man,
who then refused to answer when asked for an explanation. A club official
had to intervene to cool things down.
Tuttosport keeps its attention
fixed on the transfer market, which has just reached a close for the winter.
Supposedly Roma are still interested in Bari's rising star, Antonio Cassano,
although Juve still look to be the favourites to bring him on board.
Meanwhile the Brazilian Athirson
already debuted in a practice match with the Bianconeri, scoring his first
goal in the process. "A priceless left foot," said Carlo Ancelotti. He
is expected to be ready to play in a month, if FIFA decide, as now seems
likely, in favour of the Turin club over Flamengo in the long running transfer
dispute.
There are also rumours of
a loan spell for Zanchi to Vicenza so that the Bianconeri can have an option
on Toni.
