The Gazzetta dello Sport
leads with the story of mourning at Juve, where Del Piero's father, Gino,
has died. It also describes Brighi as being the future Conte, with Conte
himself saying that "I recognize myself in him".
The Corriere dello Sport
claims that Moggi has made contact with Marcello Lippi, at Viareggio, and
that the ex-coach of Juve is ready to return, even being prepared to take
a pay cut from his wage at Inter. In the case of Athirson, Fifa should
decide on his future today. It is hoped that they will finally close the
matter with the legal department at Flamengo. Finally, the paper also comments
on the death yesterday of Del Piero's father.
Tuttosport entreats Del Piero
to be brave after the death of his father. Del Piero is described as being
distraught, and will today go to the funeral at San Vendemiano. Meanwhile,
Juve are being linked with a move for Arsenal's French midfielder, Patrick
Viera. He is the Bianconeri's main target for the next year, although Arsenal
would only be interested in a swap deal involving Edgar Davids. Moggi has
stated that the way is clear to buy Thuram and either Toni or Di Michele
to replace the leaving Kovacevic. For Van Der Saar, the exams continue.
He has returned to his old dependable self, but the shadow of Carini still
hangs over him. At Viareggio, Jacobelli awards the "Scirea" prize to Ancelotti.
