A nervous and not brilliant
game, but the result was just what the Bianconeri needed. This is more
or less the way the players sum up their performance at the end of the
match in which Juve beat Verona 1-0. "Now," says Van der Sar, "we must
win every game."
IGOR TUDOR: "I played in
a different position from usual, further to the left, but when the need
arises I am happy to do anything. This game was important for both sides
and I am pleased that we managed to win and take home the three points.
We still believe in the Scudetto."
EDWIN VAN DER SAR: "We started
the game off on the right foot and although we did not have many scoring
chances, we managed to go into the lead. Regarding Inzaghi's penalty kick,
I saw him just on the right side of off-side and sent the ball in his direction,
and this finally led to what we all saw. Verona attempted to react, we
controlled well. Now we must win all the remaining matches of the season."
ALEX DEL PIERO: "Let's
start with my goal, it went well even though it is a shame that we did
not score a second goal on that breakaway ball. We are still having some
problems consolidating our wins. Verona was lined up well and left us very
little room to move. We were a little tense, but then we added a good measure
of grit and conviction. This is something that we will have to keep up
till the end of the championship." Asked about Monday's game between Roma
and Fiorentina, he answered, "We will all be following the match with interest,
hoping that Fiorentina will be able to halt Roma. What remains the most
important thing however is that we remain confident that we can gain ground
on and overtake the Rome team"
