MODENA, Italy - A Franciscan
monk said on Thursday Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero should have
been sent off for swearing during the Italian club's European Cup defeat
of Real Madrid.
"Del Piero should have been
sent off. He swore repeatedly. Everybody saw and heard him, it's a scandal,''
said father Sebastiano Bernardini, who has organised a campaign against
blasphemy and foul language in soccer.
He invited Del Piero, who
scored the opening goal in Juventus' 2-0 victory over Real on Wednesday
night, to apologise at a conference against swearing in soccer on Monday.
