From the papers

The season is now over and the news is about the transfer market. The papers are brimming with news, speculation, rumours and negotiations which are underway. The most eye-catching piece of news in today's papers is Juventus' purchase of Edwin Van der Saar, the Ajax goalkeeper who will replace Peruzzi, who has decided to leave the Bianconeri. There are many likely reasons for his departure: lack of motivation and financial issues are at the top of the list.

Inter is in the news with its search for a squad which is good enough for Lippi. Tuttosport says Moratti would be "prepared to pay 80bn lira (around £28.5m) for Vieri", who Inter and Lazio are competing to sign. Things are buzzing in Rome. The paper says that Cragnotti is looking to sign Chiesa or Inzaghi Junior. Berlusconi would say no to Amoroso, the Brazilian who is leaving Udinese after the UEFA Cup play-off with Juventus. The president of Milan added that he was too expensive.

The other news comes from further afield. Manchester United sensationally won the final of the Champions League ("Manchester champions, Bayern dumbfounded!"), Inter and Bologna cross swords in the UEFA Cup play-off (this evening on Rai 2 at 21.00) and Serie B in which Torino play Andria at a neutral ground.

There's something for everyone. Sampdoria and its president: "I'm not selling". Veron stuns Lazio by asking for a contract worth 9bn lira per season (around £3.2bn). Parma may sign Aimar tomorrow. Batistuta won't play in the South American Cup. Trapattoni who is after Kuffour. Lippi is chasing Thuram or Negro. Roma are ready to buy Felipe and sell Candela to Inter. So not much coverage of other sports. Only Schumacher holds his own against the football.

The front page of Corriere dello Sport is similar. Peruzzi, Van der Saar, Manchester United, UEFA Cup play-offs and call-ups for the national squad ("Zoff's only new choice is Montella"). The rest is transfer market news. "De la Pena on loan to Bologna? Ventola cries but goes to Udinese. Trapattoni buys Kuffour and fights for Deschamps. Del Vecchio and Di Biagio to move to Chelsea? Cragnotti admits to having offered Vieri for Del Piero. Venezia announce the arrival of Spalletti. Fascetti to stay at Bari. Novellino's move to Napoli is official."

And last but not least, la Stampa and il Corriere della Sera report on Longo's car accident. The Parma player's car turned over on the motorway and his condition is still very serious. "He will pull through."
