Tuttosport kicks off with
an article on the understanding between Inzaghi and Del Piero up front.
"He [Del Piero] has helped score some very important goals," concedes Inzaghi.
"But it is not important who scores as long as Juve get lots of goals.
I hope to win my duel with Batistuta, but Gabriel deserves to be football
player of the year." As usual there is a section dedicated to the transfer
market on the front page of the Turin daily. According to the paper, Juventus
are close to signing Tottenham defender Sol Campbell. Giovanni Trapattoni,
Fiorentina's coach and former Juventus player, is also given a voice in
the paper: "Agnelli still rings me," he says proudly. "He even congratulated
Batistuta on his performance. In a one-off match we have the ability to
win even against the favourites for the Scudetto."
Gazzetta dello Sport discusses
Rampulla who will be stepping in for banned goalkeeper Van der Sar in Sunday's
match against Fiorentina: "I may continue even after the end of this season,"
Rampulla hinted. "I am on form and have a lot of experience." The paper
also talks about Inzaghi and his plans over the festive season: "I want
us to be top of the table over the winter break. It would be great to end
the year on such a high, but we must not forget that Milan and Manchester
United both came a cropper in Florence. And Batistuta is player-of-the-year
material," he warned.
Corriere dello Sport returns
to the issue of Del Piero: "He just needs to score. He is back in form,
but he has not scored for 14 months. Ancelotti has another ace up his sleeve:
Montero is outstanding. Then something which has come out of the blue:
Ferrara is unwell, but Tudor is ready to go on." The paper turns the spotlight
on former Juventus players who will be sporting Fiorentina's strip in Sunday's
game: "Ex Juve players lead a bitter sweet life in Florence. Gentile started
the trend and then Trap and Angelo Di Livio followed. They were highly
respected while Moreno Torricelli has become a real idol for Fiorentina
fans," the paper comments.
