For Del Piero fans everywhere

A book entitled Dear Alex... [Caro Alex, Ti Scrivo] is to be launched Wednesday (22/12/99) in Turin by its authors, Xavier Jacobelli (director of Tuutosport) and Debora Bonetti. It is a tribute to the great Bianconero favourite, one of the most celebrated and respected football players in the world. The preface is written by non-other than Giovanni Agnelli, who compares the great play-maker to Michelle Platini and Omar Sivori, two of the great number 10s of the past.

Dear Alex... is a collection of 226 of the most interesting messages sent in to the Turin daily’s P.O. Box set up for the purpose and active now for over a year. The letters from the numerous fans have been organised under fourteen different headings. From love letters from female fans, to poems and requests from non-Juventus fans who would like for Alex to wear the colours of their own side.

"It’s a book dedicated to the Italy that loves Del Piero -says Xavier Jacobelli.- I have been planning a book on this subject from the time I first arrived at Tuttosport. There were already a large number of letters being sent in to the paper from his fans, but after we decided to open a P.O.Box especially for him the letters increased. Alex is one of those few players who are above team loyalties and who is loved by lovers of football generally, not only Juve supporters. We have gone for the most original messages, there’s a bit of everything."

There is also an up to date section, composed by Massimo Fiandrino, given over to the career statistics or history in numbers of Del Piero, running right up to this last October. There is also a very full picture gallery of the Bianconero star from different moments of his career. All the proceeds from the sale will go to Professor Veronesi’s cancer research centre.
