Representing Juventus at
the launch of the book by Xavier Jacobelli and Debora Bonetti, "Caro Alex
ti scrivo" [Dear Alex I'm writing to you] were MD Antonio Giraudo, managing
director Luciano Moggi and commercial director Romy Gai. The Juve star
himself was represented by his agent Claudio Pasqualin. In the book you
can read all the fan mail (divided up into subjects) sent into Tuttosport
by Del Piero fans and see just how well-loved the player is. Massimo Fiandro
provides a plethora of statistics to mull over while there is a fascinating
photo gallery with pictures of Alex from his first communion right up to
his footballing triumphs on the international scene. The preface is by
Giovanni Agnelli. The authors stressed that the proceeds will go to professor
Veronesi's cancer research.
Both fans and club officials
were unstinting in their praise for Del Piero, who has been a stalwart
for Juventus in an age where players seem to switch clubs on a whim. And
his future looks pretty rosy too:
ANTONIO GIRAUDO: "First and
foremost I have had the good fortune to meet the two authors, very professional
people (as the book demonstrates) with a very human side (as shown by their
decision to give the proceeds to cancer research, a cause very close to
our hearts). Del Piero is a stalwart, a rare breed in today's football.
He has great professional and human qualities and is a very intelligent
person. We have never even entertained the idea of a Juventus without him.
He is a fine player who also has plenty of charisma. He has a very long
contract and we don't think he could leave Juventus, the team which he
has grown up in as a professional player. For the past and the future you
can happily talk about a Bianconero career for Del Piero."
LUCIANO MOGGI: "He's a stalwart.
He has shown how attached he is to the [Juventus] shirt, especially after
the complicated negotiations which led to the renewal of his contract.
Alex will continue to show this because he is not like other players, who,
for one reason or another are unhappy and move to another club. Del Piero
has shown his love for Juventus in so many ways, one is undoubtedly the
huge determination he has on the pitch. Sometimes it is misplaced but he
wants to win, everything!"
Claudio Pasqualin highlighted
the huge amount of mail sent in by Del Piero fans and collated by the authors
of "Caro Alex ti scrivo" and wanted to quote the birthday messages which
came flooding in to juventus.com - which are published in full in December's
issue of the official club magazine "Hurrà Juventus".
