Today these small towns are not as prominent as they once were, because many people have moved to the cities.
Nevertheless these small towns have all the modern infrustructure, all the services in them or nearby, and a laid back rural lifestyle.
There may be an advantage in purchasing a home in Canada. If you wish to establish a foothold in Canada purchasing an inexpensive rural home may be an answer. Immigration Canada, I am aware, has a program, where foreigners are allowed to bring to Canada personal affects "duty free" if they own a "Vacation Home" in Canada. Each visit must not exceed six months, however, there is no effective monitoring system. You can still visit Canada and bring personal things even if you just own a parcel of land, but owning a home will make it easier. Owning a home will also give you a footing in a country to establish yourself in a community, open a business, recieve mail, file taxes with a Canadian address, get a Saskatchewan Driver's Licence, etc.

Some other homes are in a town where I dont have land nearby and are for sale by themselves.
All homes are serviced by power, natural gas, water and sewer, and telephone. In some cases, where utilities like power, gas have off for more then a year, licenced inspection is needed.
Annual taxes are about US$400-$600. If hooked to water and other utilities, separate charges are paid directly to Utility Company. If the home is vacant and water and other utilities are not on, you dont have to pay.
