Other Highlights: Upon graduating from High School, Mike O'Cain decided to further his acedemic and athletic career at Clemson. O'Cain began his coaching career at Clemson in 1977 as a graduate assistant. O'Cain then was the offensive backfield coach at The Citadel for the 1978-80 seasons. After one year as the assistant head coach at East Carolina, he joined Dick Sheridan, his former high school coach, as quarterback coach at NC State. One of his victories at NC State was over Clemson in Memorial Stadium, the first Clemson graduate to gain victory over the Tigers in Death Valley. He completed his season with a victory over Mississippi State in the 1993 Peach Bowl. O'Cain and current University of South Carolina Head Coach, Lou Holtz (1972-75), are the only two coaches in NC State history to take a team to a bowl in their first two seasons with the program. |
