Chapter Eight As Lance was boarding his flight home, Kenz was sitting on her hospital bed looking at the doctor like he was an alien. "You're joking right?" "No, not at all. This is an unforgivable mistake and I can't apologize enough to you. I ignored the phone calls from your doctor and your friends and I am..." "My friends? What do you mean?" "Some young men kept calling here saying something about a mistake, and I wouldn't listen. I thought they were just overreacting to your condition." "So that's it? I am ok? Clean bill of health?" She was bewildered by this revelation and didn't know what to do with the information. "Yes you are in perfect health you can leave whenever you like." Kenz gathered her things quickly and left the surgery center. She drove numbly back to the hotel and didn't even remember walking from her truck to the elevator. When the elevator doors open she jumped slightly and stepped into the hallway. Justin was sitting outside her door staring down at the floor. When she approached him he jumped to his feet and pulled her into a hug. "Thank goodness you are back. Are you ok?" His eyes glistened with tears as he held her. "I'm fine sweetie. Everything is fine." She was crying into his shirt and clinging to him tightly. "I have to talk to Lance." She stepped away and knocked on Lance's door before Justin could stop her. "Kenz wait..." The door opened and a man looked at the two of them strangely. "Can I help you?" Kenz looked at him and then at Justin questioningly. "No, we are sorry to have bothered you sir." Justin smiled pulling Kenz down the hall to his room. Chris and JC were there already franticly making phone calls. As soon as the door opened they were up and running to hug her. "Where is Lance?" She asked, shaking slightly. The three men in front of her avoided her gaze and she grabbed Chris forcing him to look at her. "Where is Lance?" She asked again very slowly. "Kenz, he....he was so upset, and he couldn't take it anymore. He loves you and..." "Damnit Chris! Where is Lance?!?" "He went home." Chris whispered and she barely heard him. She sat on the bed and grabbed her head in her hands. "What did I do?" She cried, more to herself than anyone else in the room. "I've lost him, haven't I?" She looked up at them and Justin quickly knelt in front of her. "No Kenz, I don't think you've lost him, not forever. You hurt him, badly, and he needs some time to cool off, that's all." He turned to the other two and they nodded in agreement. She stood up quietly then and went quickly to her own room. They followed her and she asked them to just leave her alone for a while. She had to figure out a way to make this up to him. How could she have done this to him? He was always there for her, why didn't she see that when she needed him most. She had been so selfish with her own self pity that she was blind to all the people around her who loved her. Hours later there was a knock on her door and she was not surprised to find JC, Justin and Chris there. She stepped aside to let them in and then curled up in a chair by the window. "I owe you all a huge apology." She said quietly after a long silence. "I was selfish and didn't stop to think about all of the people I would be hurting when I did this. Now I just have to get Lance to talk to me, to listen to me. I have been trying to call him all afternoon and he either hangs up on me or just doesn't answer the phone." "It may take some time Kenz, this isn't something that is going to happen overnight." JC reasoned. Chapter Nine Main Story Page |
