| I was 8 years old the 1st time I saw Star
Wars in the summer of 1977. It was at a drive in theater. Amongst the
night sky I was whisked away to a time long long ago in a galaxy far far
away. Since then it has been an all consuming "Force" in my
life.
To say I like Star Wars would be an understatement of magnificent proportions.
One friend described it as my religion. It's what sparked my interest
in science fiction, which had the beneficial side effect of taking an
interest in science. I mean, wouldn't it be cool to be the first person
to invent a land speeder or their own astro mech droid to help around
the house. Just think about cruising the strip in a hover craft with your
droid picking up loose women at the local cantina. If someone tries to
car jack you for it, no clumsy blasters for you. You just whip out your
lightsaber and carve his hand off to sell as a monkeys paw to some unsuspecting
Jawa.
Reality much like fate is a harsh mistress. I came to find that I wasn't
very good at science, but I was good at art. So my quest then started,
I wanted to make the movies like Star Wars and whisk people away to a
strange new world. Age and finances however dictated things a bit differently.
After going to art school I lost sight of that boy hood dream. I spent
years going from one endless job to another and even my interest in art
began to wane. Feeling a strong urge to create I started to get into planning
and making the most authentic Halloween costumes I could. It started with
a set of Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi robes; once again there is spark to feed the
flame.
A friend of mine once gave me the most important advice. I was upset
about the way things were turning out and he simply said "So what
are going to do about it". After my initial shock of his callous answer
I thought about it and decided he was right. So here is what I am going
to do. Here you will see some of the art work I produce as I work on a
long time realized dream. I will invite you in to explore in the growth
of the raging bonfire I will try to create from this small precious burning
ember.
They say the 1st step is to face yourself, so here it goes...
