The Innocent Marpl Project

The Innocent Marpl Project is not only an intellectual mixture with a World Music directions and Postmodernism games. The project is developing all of it and bringing in Postindustrial Folklore area. Personage Innocent Marpl is real in literal sense, however that may be. But who is this British?

Innocent Marpl was a mythological composer who has died in suburb of London Stoke Newington November/1849 from psychiatric illness, insanity, during which he was visited with phantasmagoric hallucinations, where he acted in a role of the rural violinist – the poet, drunkard and visioner, which lived some centuries earlier and participated in improbable – from the point of view of common sense – events and meetings, and also freely communicated with the Devil and even with the God.

Hallucinations of “historic” Marpl have unexpectedly found acknowledgement after some texts (and the music scores too), on time concerning approximately to Late Renaissance and narrating about legendary life of the rural violinist by name Innocent Marpl, which – in literary and musical sense – appears not less real, than Marpl of XIX century were revealed.

On the conflict of these two Marpls (and also their antagonism with Forces of Evil) is built the main idea of this project. Except for a literary element, the project has still historical, philosophical, musical and dramatic aspects.  Essence of the project (if simplify it) is that: making a start from isolated and frequently inconsistent “primary sources”, participants not simply animate – by means of magic of the literature, music and theatre – certain close to real the character, and take away him from a history, thus rounding off a myth.

The Innocent Marpl Project based on two cross-stories by Russian philologist Dmitry Sumarokov, who was born and live in Riga, Latvia.
