September 26, 2004: Here is the current status of my life. 1. After weeks of bitching and whining and begging and persuading and dreaming about sidewalks and bus access and proximity to shopping, we decided to move. And then we got a car instead. So I think we're probably staying in the same tiny rathole we've been in for the last year, but at least it's our rathole. And we have it maybe halfway unpacked and arranged anyway, so it makes sense to stay and finish it off. Gotta make sure it's as big of a pain in the ass as possible before you take the plunge. 2. Yes, that's right, we got a car. It kicks some junker ass, too. It's brown and it dates back to the Era of Grunge. It's pretty pimped out, too, with a sunroof and automatic seatbelts and power everything. Yes, Bryce, now we can come visit you. Shit, I guess this means I have no choice but to learn to drive, huh? At least I'm done with 20 minute winter walks down Guardrail Trail, and hour-and-a-half long commutes in the dark through the finest city neighborhoods. 3. My job finally started. We've been training since May 29th, which is about four months. It got really intense and weird and depressing there at the end, too. And then we opened. I walk around in a state of perpetual wonderment or some shit, it's that cool. The building is finally shiny and filled in, there are people walking around using our books, and the coffee shop is pumping out caffeine the entire time I'm on the clock. Plus, I don't seem to hate my co-workers the way one usually does. I know this sounds really sick, but a lot of us stay late and take short lunches just because the place is so cool. Of course, we've only been open three days, so I'm sure that'll pass like a kidney stone. 4. I've started reading the last Dark Tower book. It's pretty awesome, so I'm only reading it in maybe fifty page blocks. At this rate, I may still be reading it |
