Sg. Pandan
  New material added: Nov 2001

The following pictures are the results from a survey of the 'swim' along the Sungai Pandan.
These photos are divided into two groups.
The first group deals with the strech of water above the river gate and
the second group deals with the waters below the gate, mainly around the Jalan Buroh bridge.
Use these photographs to help you increase your hook up rate.

Practice catch and release for your future.  N.B. There was at least one major incident (cir. 1999 ?)
that lead to tons (yes, tons !) of dead sucker fish on this strech of water, it was no doubt cause by pollution.

The waters in this swim is coloured (cloudy), partially due to the feeding habits of carps and several other species, including catfishes etc. . They like to blow/stir up the silt and pick up the bits, thus making the water cloudy.

Image12-13_service_rd_Pandan_res.jpg

The two picture above was taken from the direction of Pandan Gardens on the right bank of the river, next to the West Coast Highway. The river gate is served by a service road that runs along the perimeter betweeen Sungai Pandan and the reservoir. This service road is not-sealed and connects West Coast Highway to Jalan Buroh. On the West Coast Highway end of this road sits the pump house .

Warning sign beside the river gate. The buildings in the background are the HDB flats in Pandan Garden. The view is in the direction of Clementi (inland). The presence of the river gate regulates the level of the the waterway and creates a 'lake' that is many miles long.

This is a rather wide pan spanning five normal frames. Use your scrow bar to get the complete view.

Image20_no_fishing_notice_on_bridge.jpg

A rather amusing 'No Fishing' notice in three langauges on the Jalan Buroh bridge. Judging by the condition of the notice (faded and faint), one would wonder about the authorithy on which this notice would be enforced.

Caught in the act: Littering by boatmen.
This boat man was dumping his garbage into the river just beside the Jalan Buroh bridge. It made me very sad and angry that such littering is still going on.
