WINDOWS 97 - 98

SOFTWARE DREAMS LOOKING AT MICROSOFT THROUGH WINDOWS 98
And Beyond.

HERE WE GO AGAIN !

WINDOWS 95
What We Said Yesterday [1995 - 1996]

"FEAR NOT, true to form, Microsoft has HELP ON THE WAY. It will be inadequate, and it will be late! It will also be very different from Dos/Windows 3.1 and 3.11. As for assistive and adaptive features, interface, speech and user friendly non-graphic and text environments, Microsoft leads the industry with announcements! Then retro - planning, retro - development, and retro - spin management."

WINDOWS 97 - 98
What Can Be Said Today [1998]

"GUESS WHAT", Microsoft Announces the first quarter release of MS Windows 98 will be postponed until the second quarter of 1998. See you in mid-year 1998, and here we go again! "FEAR NOT", true to form, Microsoft has "HELP ON THE WAY".

WINDOWS 98
Has Arrived Today
June 25,1998

COMMENTARY

With minor differences [proported to be improvements] Windows 98 looks and feels like Windows 95. Unless you want to use the new special features, you will think they are the same. Multi tasking, power management, and stability feel unchanged.

Already huge Windows 98 has taken on additional weight, filling up more disk space. By including Internet Explorer Browser within the Windows 98 Operating System. Your browser now becomes the center point and opening screen, the face for your computer. This means, be prepared to start with [And Live In] your Explorer Browser!

You Can Hide It! You can refuse to use it! But You Can Not Remove It! Whether you use it, or not, the Internet Explorer browser will continue to be on your hard drive as part of your Windows 98 Operating System Program.

[First Release] Program Or $89.95 Bug Fix?

Meanwhile Microsoft continues to consolidate, all its' software applications inside one multi - tasking, inner locking, interrelated, interface, included within Internet Explorer. Whether adequate or late, above or beyond, it should be different from Windows 95. Hopefully Windows 98 will be an improvement such as Windows 3.11 was a real improvement over Windows 3.0 and 3.1.

Still to be determined are the special features. As for assistive and adaptive features, interface, speech and user friendly non-graphic and text environments, You Will Have To Tell. For some it is to early to tell; while others have yet to arrive in the first release. They just are not there! True to form: "Guess What" there are bugs.

For assistive and adaptive features, interface, speech and user friendly graphic and text environments, Microsoft Research continues to offer and improve its':

Free adaptive and assistive software for anyone. * Whisper * [Speech Dictation], Microsoft SAPI [Speech Recognition, Command, and Control], * Whistler * [Text -To- Speech], Microsoft SDK [Speech Implementation], and * Microsoft Screen Magnifier * program. Download * [Free] from the Microsoft Research Site *.

This "freeware", provided by Microsoft Research, is not supported like Microsoft retail software. These programs are continuously updated as improved by Microsoft Research. Newsgroups and FAQs are provided to communicate technical references and user -to- user assistance. As Microsoft "freeware" for Windows 3.+ through 98, these programs are the best bet on the net. Like it, or not, free is still a very good price.

WINDOWS 95 Thru 98 AND BEYOND

If you feel that you are being directed; you are! Microsoft brought you inside with the "look" of Windows 3.0, then 3.1, and 3.11. Multi - tasking, inner locking, interrelated, applications interface, brought you inside with Windows 95. Partially to take advantage of ever increasing processor CPU power. As well as defend against ever growing "power hungry" applications. Feeding and competing for annual CPU processor output , ever increasing minimum memory requirements, and hard drive space.

If you wanted the "new" applications, you needed Windows 95. If not, you stayed where you were, or changed anyway. Windows 95 would run your old DOS and DOS/Windows 3.+ applications.

If you had network software [Windows 3.11 and NT3.5] you stayed where you were for a time, and saved your money. Because you already had a stable system without Windows 95. In any case if you could not afford the new software "techno - jump", you were stuck anyway.

Today, two years later, Windows 98 improves and completes the process. Now if you want to upgrade to "new 98" applications while still using your old DOS and DOS/ Windows 3.+ applications, along with Windows 95 applications, you need to "convert" to Windows 98.

Even if you just want to upgrade to new hardware, you may need Windows 98. You will also need to upgrade your computer's processor, memory, and motherboard, to meet the minimum requirements of newer hardware as well as software. A new computer may be cheaper.

WINDOWS 1999 - 2000 AND BEYOND

Tomorrow, less than two years from now, Microsoft For Windows 1999 - 2000 will have introduced its' "final solution" to the Y2K Problem. Having abandoned the DOS and DOS/ Windows 3.+ platform completely. The Windows 95 through 98 platform will be phased out, in favor of an evolving Windows NT platform. Look for DOS and DOS/ Windows 3.+ compatibility to disappear. Followed by Windows 95 through 98 compatibility.

Still, most business users, including the 60 percent of the marketplace still running Windows 3.x, will be pushed toward Windows NT 5.0. New-PC buyers, meanwhile, may end up not having a choice: if all proceeds according to plan, Windows 98 is expected to be the standard operating system preinstalled on most PCs beginning in the latter part of 1998. Even so, as the successor to Windows 95.

It would be possible to move from Windows 3.1 to Windows 98 without this new functionality, but users would run the risk of not picking up support for all of the installed device drivers and existing 16-bit applications, industry observers said. Microsoft had said that it planned to support the upgrade from Win 95 to 98 at its launch, with support for the upgrade from Windows 3.1 to Windows.
