Not all pillboxes look like the standard hexagonal type. Some where camouflaged to blend in with the surrounding area. This one in morpeth in the north east of England is near the beach and looks like a fisherman's cottage from a distance but on close inspection you can see the firing slits. This type of pillbox would have housed men with rifles and machine guns.

type 22 with loophole covers and shelf. most of the covers and shelves have disappeared from pillboxes by now ( a lucky find, this is the pillbox that first got me interested ).

this is the larger hexagonal pillbox with blast entrance for door and more loopholes.

This pillbox overlooks the harbour at blyth and looks as though it is now being used as an electricity substation.
