Philips CD-i here is a good idea gone bad. Lunched in early 1990's it was the so called all in one machine. Sorry to say it was not. Just like the DVD player is saying now. So lets see if history repeats itself or can DVD learn by CD-i's mistakes. Only time will tell. At the time CD-i was out Genesis and SNES was big. This was the first CD ROM based machine and at the time the best one. I can say this because yes I have one. I have one from the very first year the CD-i -910. At the time it was state of the art. It was a point and click interface boasting reference , educational and movies. The do-it-all entertainment system it was not. For one thing the price was way out of most peoples price range. The first year it cost almost $900. Who was going to pay that much for a game system. When they could go buy Genesis or SNES for under $150. Plus you add the digital video cartridge that was around $200. Philips got the price down a little with there second redesign but it was still to high at around $300 w/o FMV or $500 with FMV. But by then it was to late Playstation and Saturn had come into the picture. Philips big mistake was to try to market this as a "Family Multimedia". As we all know games sell systems not not high tech coloring books. So Philips if you read this I know your coming out with a DVD player. Don't make the same mistake twice.
