Version 1.03: 07/09/2006
On going update

Version 1.02: 04/01/2006
Massive update, have finally got around to releasing this update after working
on it for the past year. All sections have been updated and a number of
spelling error's corrected. Have numbered all the PAL games and have re-listed
a few of them and listed their names in full now. Also have corrected a few
mistakes and cleared up a number of points, also have rewritten a large part
of the FAQ and changed the layout. A big special thank you goes too the many
members of www.ntsc-uk.com who greatly helped with this update. Far too many
updates to list but know this the FAQ has gone from 49.1KB to 70.6KB. Also
removed the information on DreamParaPara and Feet of Fury as both of these are
bootleg games and were never released. There is still more planned as well
mainly the HZ and magazine list.

Version 1.01: 22/11/2003
Major updated, I have added in all the information I have been sent over the
last few months, thanks everybody. Corrected some spelling errors and I have
added Taxi 2 to the list of released games and removed 4x4 Evolution as I can
confirm 100% it wasn't released in PAL. Plenty of other updates too, like new
packaging mistakes and errors and DreamKey 2.0 release, plus much more! This
update isn't as big as I would have liked it to have, been but I've had much
to do over these past few months.

Version 1.00: 17/06/2003
Added information on the fishing rod and games not released in Australia also
updated the Packaging Mistakes and Errors section thanks to Karachi King.
Also changed around the order of how some of the games are listed.

Version 0.99: 10/06/2003
Huge updated Added Frequent Questions and Answers, PAL Peripherals List,
Packaging Mistakes and Errors and PAL Games Information to name but a few.
Added Drawing of the PAL Dreamcast Box and finished off all the unfinished
sections, bar one.

Version 0.81: 03/02/2003
This is the first version of the FAQ, it's only a basic release which only
contains a list for the games released in the UK the demo disks and other
disks released in the UK. Never released version of this FAQ.

3. Introduction
=================
This is my first every FAQ, so I hope you like it, when I first started
writing this FAQ there weren't any FAQ to Dreamcast game lists there are now
2, but still both of them are for Japanese and USA games. As I live in the UK
they aren't much help to me or other PAL gamers. So I decided that someone
should write a Dreamcast games list for PAL games. This list should now apply
to most of European and PAL territories, but if there are any differences in
releases please feel free to contact me and I'll make a note about the
differences.

Just a quick note, I can only read English and have a very limited knowledge
of French, so I have to request if you could please write any contact e.mail's
to me in English.

I hope to include in later releases of this FAQ, details about each games,
packaging. When they were released, what their origin RRP was, if they have
online features. How many players they support, what peripherals each games
supports and if they support 60hz or are PAL optimised. I would also like to
cover who made and released each game and what genre it belongs too.

I also hope to include the content of each demo disk and a few other bit's of
information.

English, spelling and grammar was never my strong point, so I'll be very
grateful if someone could point out any spelling and grammar mistakes in this
FAQ.

My sources for this FAQ are:

DC-UK Magazine
Dreamcast: The Official Dreamcast Magazine
Dreamcast Magazine: The 100% Unofficial Magazine
NTSC-UK's Forum
My general knowledge of the Dreamcast and it's games.
The many readers of this FAQ thanks for all your support!

In total, I've played about 140 of the PAL Dreamcast titles, and I've seen for
sales almost all of them. Most of the titles between 1999 and 2000 where
reviewed in the Dreamcast magazines, after that the magazines started dying
out and many of the games that came out weren't even mention, Evolution 2 Far
of Promise was never reviewed or even mentioned by any of the magazines. I
only discovered it had been released when I saw it sitting on a shelf in my
local Game. Dreamcast Magazine: The 100% Unofficial Magazine was the last
magazine to go and by the end it was terrible, they cut down the magazine so
much there was nothing in it. In short I have not just, copied the PAL games
list from the magazines, a lot of this FAQ is my own work and knowledge so if
you do want to post it on a website please contact me first.

4. Frequent Questions and Answers
==================================

1.Q)What is PAL?
1.A)PAL is the TV system used by most of Europe and Australia and PAL stands
for Phase Altering Lines

2.Q)I'm always hearing that PAL games run at 50hz and have boarders, so I'm
guess that NTSC is better?
2.A)No not by a long shot in fact, PAL is much better than NTSC or Never Twice
the Same Colour, as it's known in the television industry. The only reason for
the games being better is that, in the old days games where made to work on
the NTSC system. As it had a larger share of the games market as both the USA
and Japan use NTSC and as most games are developed in the USA and Japan. Now
that most PAL game have 60hz option, they look better than the USA and
Japanese games. It was also down to the laziness of companies like Sega and
Nintendo who didn't correct the console hardware to work correctly with PAL
televisions. The Commodore Amiga for example had no screen or speed loss as it
was designed to work correctly with PAL televisions.

In case you want to know some television technical information. NTSC displays
525 lines where as PAL displays 625 lines. I should point out than NTSC was
developed before PAL. As for other systems around the French used a system
call SECAM, which is better than NTSC but worse than PAL.

3.Q)How many games support 60hz?
3.A)The Dreamcast is the first console to official support 60hz in Europe.
However some of the older consoles like the Sega Saturn and Super Nintendo
Entertainment System could be converted to play games at 60hz. In total about
75% of the Dreamcast games officially support 60hz. What is meant by
officially supports 60hz is that somewhere in that game, you can find an
option to change the game from 50hz to 60hz.

Sadly not all the games official support 60hz, this is mainly down to lazy and
rushed programmers, who were unable or unwilling to add the 60hz option into
games. Lucky some of these games can be forced into 60hz with the help of a
Xploder or a DC-X disc. If you include the games that can be forced into 60hz
then about 90-95% of the game support 60hz, sadly not all games can be force
into 60hz. Forcing is covered in greater detail later on in this FAQ.

4.Q)Can you list the games, which are 50hz only?
4.A)Here is a list of some of the 50hz games, which can be forced into 60hz,
as yet this list is incomplete:

Aero Wings
Aero Wings 2: Air Strike
Bust A Move 4
Charge 'N' Blast
Conflict Zone
Dino Crisis
Dynamite Cop
Evil Twin Cyprien's Chronicles
Flogian Brothers: episode one
Grandia 2
House of the Dead 2, The
Iron Aces
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Maken X
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits - Volume 1 -
Next Tetris, The
Pen Pen Triicelon
Power Stone
Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Sega Rally 2
Skies of Arcadia
Spawn in the Demon's Hand
Spiderman
Star Wars: Episode 1 Jedi Power Battles
Super Magnetic Neo
Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing (Submitted by cat_mince_nz)
Tokyo Highway Challenge 2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Tony Hawk's Skateboarding
Virtua Fighters 3 Team Battle
Zombie Revenge

5.Q)Can you list some of the games, which can't be forced into 60hz?
5.A)Here's a quick list for you, the only way to play these games at 60hz is
to buy an NTSC version. Once again I should point out that this list is
incomplete at the moment, but if you know of any titles not listed then send
me an e.mail.

Conflict Zone
Dynamite Cop
Maken X
Pen Pen Triicelon
Railroad Tycoon II
Skies of Arcadia

6.Q)How can I tell what peripherals each game supports and if it runs at 60hz?
6.A)Most games list the peripherals they support on the back of their box,
sadly nowhere on the box do they tell you if the game supports 60hz or not.
The only way to find out is to play the game itself and check the manual to
see if there is a 60hz option in the game. The Official Dreamcast Magazine did
include a 50/60hz list in the Games Directory section however there where a
large number of omissions and errors in it.

7.Q)Can you tell me if X game supports X peripheral?
7.A)Sadly not at the moment, you'll have to do some more research about that
game, I may do a more in-depth feature about each game in later versions of
this FAQ.

8.Q)Can you tell me more about X game?
8.A)No, try looking at a review website for more detail about X game.

9.Q)What would you say are some of the best PAL games on Dreamcast?
9.A)This, is a quick list of some of my favourite titles and some of the best
games on Dreamcast:

Air Combat Simulator: Deadly Skies
Lightgun Shooter: Silent Scope
Crazy Racing: Crazy Taxi
Arcade Puzzle: Bust A Move 4

There are plenty of other great Dreamcast games, which I haven't listed.

10.Q)What games would you say aren't any good?
10.A)I haven't really played that many bad games, bar Ultimate Fighting
Championship, Tomb Raider, Buggy Heat and Ducati World, the rest I've just
heard are bad.

Buggy Heat
Ducati World
Exhibition of Speed
Roadsters
Championship Surfer
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
ECW Anarchy Rulz
ECW Hardcore Revolution
Aqua GT
Nightmare Creatures 2
South Park: Chef's Luv Shack
Tomb Raider Chronicles
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Many of these games make me shudder the minute I hear their names!

11.Q)Can you force NTSC games in 50hz?
11.A)Yes, the DC-X does allows you to force 60hz games into 50hz, but some
NTSC titles have an instruction at the start of the program to jump back to
60hz mode, so can't be play at 50hz. The Sega Smash Pack is one such title.
(Submitted by Lyris)

Also a few titles also detect the region of your Dreamcast and will force
themselves into 50hz on a PAL Dreamcast. Ooga Booga does this if booted
through the Xploder. In order to play it in 60hz on a PAL Dreamcast you will
have to use the DC-X and force it into 60hz with the DC-X's options.

12.Q)Is there a different between PAL 60hz and NTSC 60hz?
12.A)Yes there is so be warned, you may find that a PAL game run fine at 60hz
on your Television but when you try an NTSC game it doesn't work correct. So
far I've only seen this problem with NTSC machines being play on a PAL
television but check with the television manufacture to see if it supports
NTSC input or not.

PAL Dreamcasts never output an NTSC signal (except when you use an American
GameShark CDX boot disc). All NTSC games will run in PAL60 (or RGB60) on the
PAL Dreamcast. (Submitted by Lyris)

13.Q)How do you play NTSC games on a PAL Dreamcast?
13.A)I use Xploder DC to play NTSC games on a PAL Dreamcast. I find it
slightly better than the DC-X for getting games to work. Note a few NTSC games
will not work with Xploder DC or the DC-X unfortunately.

14.Q)Can you change the background of the Dreamcast's Bios?
14.A)Puyo Puyo Fever does allow you to change the Dreamcast's bios background,
however it was only released in Japan.

15.Q)Can you still use the Dreamcast to surf the internet?
15.A)Yes, but you need to use Dreamkey 3.0 to surf the web as Dreamkey 1.0 and
1.5 no longer work.

16.Q)Can I still play games online?
16.A)Yes and No, only a handful of games still have their online support
working, Phantasy Star Online and Quake III Arena are about the only games
still working. Chu Chu Rocket was one of the first games to be shut down and
now most games can no longer be played online. Also most of the download
extras have now gone as well which is a real pain. In a later release of this
FAQ I will go into a lot more detail into this matter and hopefully list a few
websites where the download extras can still be found online.

17.Q)Which Dreamcast games had VMU games or downloads on them?
17.A)This is not a complete list but here goes:

Evolution 2: Far off Promise
Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
Quake III Arena
Power Stone
Power Stone 2
Sega GT
Sega Rally 2
Shenmue (Submitted by Julio III)
Skies of Arcadia
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure 2
Super Runabout: The Golden State (Submitted by Julio III)
Time Stalkers
Trickstyle (Submitted by Julio III)
Zombie Revenge

18.Q)I heard the last Dreamcast game ever has been released is this true?
18.A)Sadly it is, the last Dreamcast game every was Under Defeat which was
released in Japan in 2006. R.I.P Dreamcast 1998-2006

5. PAL Games Information
=========================
The first thing I should point out is that a PAL game is intended for use only
on a PAL Dreamcast, unless you have the correct device to allow them to play
on a NTSC system they will not work. All Pal Dreamcast consoles and games bear
the mark PAL/E to show they are compatible with one another. US games and
consoles bear the mark NTSC/U and Japanese games and hardware bears the mark
NTSC/J.

So what do you get when you buy a PAL games, one box, one or more GD-ROM
depending on the game, a manual and a back and front cover for the box.

----------------
Box Information
----------------
Unlike the USA and Japan, European games didn't come in normal CD dual cases
or enlarged dual cases. Instead Sega of Europe decided to use their own unique
design, so it's now very hard to find replacement boxes. The European box is
made up of 3 parts, the front case, the inner tray and the back case. Due to
the way the case is designed you can open it in two ways, you can open the
front case or the back of the case. The front case open's up to give you
access to one side of the inner tray and the first CD holder. The back case
open's up to give you access to the manual and the second CD holder.

The front case, plug's itself into 2 small holes found on the inner tray and
has four small clips, which hold the front cover in place. The back case
plug's into the inner tray, by the means of 2 small plastic plugs at the end
of the case. Here are some basic drawings of the Drawing of the PAL Dreamcast
box.

This back of the PAL Dreamcast is basically a square, so I haven't done a
drawing of it.

The Front and back cases are make from a light see-through plastic, not sure
what type of plastic. The inner tray is made from a slight strong plastic and
is coloured a deep blue. The final thing to mention is that the inner tray has
a logo that said Dreamcast on its left side.

Unlike the Sega Saturn the Dreamcast box has had no major changes to it nor
did different companies make their own boxes as also happened with the Saturn.
The earlier Sega Saturn boxes also had a fatal design fault that could result
in the game CD becoming misshapen.

There was only one small change and that was to do with the Dreamcast logo on
the left side of the inner tray. In early released Dreamcast games the logo
was printed on to the case with Black Ink. In later released Dreamcast games
the logo was engrave in to the inner tray, meaning that the logo was now
plastic and was the same colour blue as the inner tray. The only other change
I know about is to do with the front cover of Dreamcast games and I will talk
about that later.

The boxes itself is more stronger than a normal CD case, but it's still likely
to crack if dropped or hit with a hard enough force.

7. A number of PAL games were not released in Spain, currently don't have a
list of which one's however. (Submitted by Bossk2k3)

8. The following titles were at the Dreamcast's European launch on the 14th
October 1999.

Blue Stinger
Dynamite Cop
Incoming
Millennium Soldier: Expendable
Power Stone
Racing Simulator: Monaco Grand Prix
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Sega Rally 2
Sonic Adventure
Trickstyle
Tokyo Highway Challenge
Virtua Fighters 3 Team Battle
(Submitted by gossi_the_dog and other NTSC-UK Forum members)

Here's a couple facts for you regarding the Dreamcast launch. The number of
games available at launch was twelve, which at the time was a record. Sadly it
lasted all of about 2 weeks until the Neo Geo Pocket Colour was released
alongside 14 game titles. Sega shifted 63,000 DC's in the first week on sale
in the UK, which was another record. (Submitted by gossi_the_dog)

9. The following games come with a full colour manual! (A rare event for PAL
games, most Japanese and US games come with a full colour manual as standard!)

Deadly Skies
Evolution: The World of Sacred Devices
Incoming
International Track and Field
Pen Pen Triicelon
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Silent Scope
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer
Wacky Racers
WWF Royal Rumble

10. The following games had a BBFC age rating on them in the UK.

Dino Crisis (15)
Grand Theft Auto 2 (18)
Mortal Kombat Gold (18)
Nightmare Creatures 2 (15)
Resident Evil 2 (15)
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (15)
Resident Evil Code: Veronica (15)
Soldier of Fortune (18)
Soul Calibur (15)

11. The following games could be brought with a Dreamcast peripheral as part
of a special package.

(House of the Dead 2, The) Special pack with official Dreamcast light gun.
(Planet Ring) Special pack with mircophone.
(Samba De Amigo) Special pack with official maracas and mat.

12. Dreamcast design, need a little help with this one, as far as I am aware
there were only two Dreamcast shells released in Europe. The first shell being
the standard white Dreamcast shell. The second is the very rare Sonic shell
design which was a competition prize. Supposedly the last PAL Dreamcast ever
made was going have something special about it, but currently no one has ever
reported seeing the last PAL Dreamcast so it's impossible to say if it was
true or not.

13. The last PAL Dreamcast game released was Heavy Metal Geomatrix.

14. Most 50Hz-only games, such as Virtua Fighters 3 Team Battle, Grandia II
and Sega Rally 2 actually run in full-screen, full-speed 60Hz when using the
VGA box. Clearly they were too lazy to add a selector.

what it contained or what issue it was released with, as the first issue of
DC-UK I brought was issue 20, which also happened to be it's last issue. Some
information would be helpful on this one.

DreamKey Version 1.0

Came with early released Dreamcast's as the standard version of DreamKey.

----------------------
DreamKey Version 1.5
----------------------
Replaced DreamKey Version 1.0 as the standard version of DreamKey to come with
the Dreamcast. It also came free with the game Chu Chu Rocket.

-----------------------
DreamKey Version 2.0
-----------------------
I can't say much about it, but it was released in Europe just not in the UK,
here is an e-mail, pacdam sent me to confirm its release in Europe:

Hi, Yes, I have a PAL-version of DreamKey v2.0. It's a PAL/E -marked, product.
The number is: 833-0037-50, 832-0045-46, Made in the E.U.
(Submitted by pacdam)

-----------------------
DreamKey Version 3.0
-----------------------
Released in March 2002, as a postal offer you had to fill in a form at Dream
Arena online from February 6th onwards to receive it. The offer has now ended
for the online sign up.

However it also came free with Phantasy Star Online Version 2, due to this
reason quite a few people ended up with more than one copy of the Dreamkey 3.0
disc.

You may still be able to get a copy from Sega, if you get in contact with
them.

You need DreamKey Version 3.0 to be able to go online in the UK nowadays, this
is because Dream Arena was shut down, shortly after it's release. DreamKey
Version 1.0 and 1.5 both used Dream Arena to go online, so they no longer work
anymore.

Both DreamKey Versions 2.0 and 2.5 were canned in the UK.

----------
Xploder DC
----------
A cheat device, which is designed to help people cheat at games, it is also
the bane of all true Phantasy Star Online Players. It can also be used to play
import games, released by Blaze in the UK. If you have the correct codes you
can force some PAL games into 60hz, which didn't have this option originally
with the Xploder, the DC-X also does the same but you don't need a code for
each game. These code where taken from the website www.gbparadise.de, sadly
the website isn't around anymore, but www.mogelpower.de is still about. I find
the Xploder is much better for playing import games on than the DC-X.

MP3 DC
---------
Another device released my Blaze, this one let's you play MP3 files on your
Dreamcast.

---------
DC-X
---------
Another device released my Blaze, this one also let's you play import games on
your DC, as Blaze released this and the Xploder in the UK. Blaze tried to
cover up the fact that the Xploder does play import games. The DC-X can't play
all NTSC games, a handful of games will only work with the correct region
Dreamcast. It can also force some PAL games, which are 50hz only into 60hz,
this includes:

Bust A Move 4
Charge 'N' Blast
Evil Twin Cyprien's Chronicles
Grandia 2
House of the Dead, The
Iron Aces
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits - Volume 1 -
Sega Rally 2
Spawn in the Demon's Hand
Virtua Fighters 3 Team Battle
Zombie Revenge

Sadly not all the games can be force into 60hz, Dynamite Cop & Skies of
Arcadia are two examples of games which cannot be force into 60hz. Dynamite
Cop crashes if you force it into 60hz.

----------
Bleemcast
----------
Bleem was a well-known Playstation, emulator for the PC. Who decided too start
emulating Playstation game on the Dreamcast, hence the Name Bleemcast.

Original they were going to release about 100 games on each Bleem disk, but in
the end they settled for 1 title per disk. Only 3 three games were emulated in
this way, as Bleem went bankrupt shortly after releasing the third disc.

The three games emulated by Bleemcast were:

Grand Turismo 2
Metal Gear Solid
Tekken 3

I don't know if they were all release in the UK however, as only import shops
tended to sell Bleemcast. The big chains like EB and Game didn't sell
Bleamcast titles as Sony told them, that it wouldn't supply Playstation games
to stores that sold Bleemcast titles. As you can guess the Bleemcast disk were
quite hard to find in the UK because of this factor.

You also need a copy of the original Playstation game to use the Bleemcast
disk, as the disk itself only allowed the Dreamcast to read the Playstation
disk.

1 Dreamcast Controller,
A set of instruction manuals, including a manual to Dreamarena, which is now
obsolete as Sega have since shut down Dreamarena.
1 Demo disk or a game depending on what Dreamcast offer you buy.
1 DreamKey disc, either version 1.0 or 1.5 depending on when you bought you
DC. DreamKey 3.0 was never given away with the DC.

The DC has up to 4 joypad ports and can support up to four players on a single
Dreamcast. The number of player changes from game to game however, some online
games can support more than 4 players online, Bomberman Online was up to 8
players online for example.

---------------
RGB Scart Lead
---------------
A lead that let's you link, your Dreamcast into a scart port rather than a RF
unit, improves the Dreamcast picture quality greatly. If you have a scart TV I
highly advise that you, get a RGB scart cable as soon as possible, as it
improves the Dreamcast picture quality greatly. Word of warning for those of
you who have a PAL DC and play import NTSC games on it. Not all NTSC system
games work with the RGB Scart Lead, Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service and
Super Street Fighter II X for Matching Service are examples of games that
don't work with the RGB Scart Lead, you'll have to use the RF lead instead or
get an S-Video Lead.

---------------------
Dreamcast Controller
---------------------
Your basic Dreamcast controller, you'll need one for each player in a game.
The DC Controller has 2 ports for plug in peripherals like the VMU and the
Vibration Pack. The controller has 7 button in total which are: Start, A, B,
X, Y and two triggers on the side, L and R. It also has 1 d-pad and 1 analogue
stick. The basic colour of the controller was white, but Sega of Europe's
online shop, did have other colours for sale.

--------------------
Visual Memory Unit
--------------------
The memory card, for the Dreamcast, has a built in LED screen 4 button and a
mini d-pad, 200 blocks of memory. Also has a port on the top of it so you can
link up and transfer data between 2 VMU and plug it into a Dreamcast
Controller. It also takes 2 batteries, which are the same make as the one
needed for the Sega Saturn's internal clock and memory.

A VMU lets you manage the data on it and play mini games on it, the only
problem was that games tended to take up all the VMU memory and the batteries
only lasted about 3 months. The 200 block on them was pretty small, and the
memory used by each game differed greatly, you could get lucky and get about
30 games on a VMU or you could have 3 games, which take up all your memory.

The standard VMU is white in a blue box, however towards the end of the
Dreamcast life in Europe. Sega of Europe started to import some of the USA
made VMU's. It's interesting to see the different, they work perfectly fine
but there are a couple of differences. There are different coloured VMU's,
they come in a range of transparent colours which are, red, black, green,
yellow and blue. The colour VMU's also came in a smaller black box with US
marking all over it. Which suggests that Sega of Europe imported a large
number in from the US.

You can also pick up the standard USA white VMU, they came in a white blister
pack and also looked the same as a European white VMU but have one minor
difference aside from the Packaging. The USA VMU has the Dreamcast swirl logo
next to the word Dreamcast. The European VMU just have the word Dreamcast on
them only in bigger lettering as to why they took off the swirl is any one's
guess.

---------------
Vibration Pack
---------------
Put simply it makes the Dreamcast Controller shakes violently, yes you too can
damage your wrists as you use it. I hate these things and find that they add
nothing to the enjoyment of the game. The wrist's joke, is related to a case
where I heard someone damage their wrists, because they played rumble games
all the time, although they never said which console the person played. In
truth these things are lawsuits waiting to happen.

-------------------
Dreamcast Keyboard
-------------------
Turn your Dreamcast in to a PC with this handy keyboard, just kidding. Makes
using the Internet and typing on game's like PSO a lot easier. Can also be
used in conjunction with the Dreamcast Mouse to get PC style FPS controls, in
some FPS shooter games.

----------------
Dreamcast Mouse
----------------
Makes using the Internet a lot easier and is supported by some games. It can
be used in conjunction with the Dreamcast Keyboard to get PC style FPS
controls, in some games. A word of warning DreamKey 1.0 and 1.5 don't work
with the Mouse, so you'll need to get a copy of DreamKey 3.0 to use the mouse
with the internet.

--------------------
Dreamcast Light Gun
--------------------
The official Sega light gun, has a d-pad and 3 button, two of the buttons
Start and B, can be found at the back of the gun just above the d-pad. The
third button is the trigger itself the light gun also has a space for one VMU.
You can fit a Vibration Pack into the back of the light gun however it is not
recommend as the Vibration Pack can damage the gun. You shouldn't really put a
VMU into the back of the light gun either, what you're supposed to do is place
a Dreamcast Controller into the next available joypad port and insert the VMU
into that controller. The reason being that the VMU can be shaken free of the
gun when in use, why Sega didn't remove the VMU port altogether is very odd,
poor design I guess.

In Europe only 2 games, supported the light gun, The House of the Dead 2 and
Confidential Mission. The light gun itself was only sold in a pack with The
House of the Dead 2 and at one stage you could only buy the gun on it's own
from Sega official online store. For what every reason known to Sega
Confidential Mission was not sold with a light gun. This meant that it was
very hard to get a hold of a second light gun, if you wanted to play 2 player.
However during 2002, I did notice that some of my local shops started to sell
the light gun separately. The light gun itself is white with an orange trigger
button, the two buttons on the back are blue and the d-pad is black.

---------------------
Dreamcast Microphone
---------------------
Let's strange people, hear your voice! One game that officially supports this
peripheral, is Planet Rings, which is given away free with the Microphone. I'm
also guessing you can use it for online chat, other than that, this peripheral
is pretty useless and offers very little software support or value for money.
Mr Driller, Seaman Fishing and Alien Front Online support the microphone.
(Submitted by Pacdam and cat_mince_nz)

-----------------------
Dreamcast Arcade Stick
-----------------------
Your standard arcade style stick, makes beat-em-up games, like Marvel Vs
Capcom 1/2, Street Fighter 3, Capcom Vs SNK 1/PRO/2, much easier to play. Word
of warning a number of fault Arcade Sticks where made if you plug one of these
baby's into your Dreamcast it will blow the control chip of your console
rendering your DC useless.

--------------------------
Dreamcast Race Controller
--------------------------
Gives you an Arcade style steering wheel and in my view greatly improves all
the racing games on the Dreamcast greatly. Word of warning, however not all
the racing games support it and some don't work very well with it. Crazy Taxi
1 and 2, Sega Rally 2 and Daytona USA 2001 all work fine with it. However
Metropolis Street Racer doesn't work very well with the steering wheel at all,
despite having the Dreamcast Race Controller logo on the back of the box
saying it's compatible, another reason why that game is bug ridden trash.

---------------------------------------
Dreamcast Fishing Rod (Australia Only)
---------------------------------------
The Australians get something we don't? Well they needed something to makeup
for all the games not released over there. This device allows you to play
fishing games, just like how it would be in real life except you won't get wet
when it rains (@-@). As to why the official rod was only released in Australia
is any one's guess. (Submitted by Karachi King)

-----------------------
Samba De Amigo Maracas
-----------------------
The reason why Samba De Amigo costs one hundred pounds! You get two Maracas
and a floor mat to stand on, both the maracas have one green button on them.
They use lasers to measure the height of the maraca to the ground.

Good fun but the maracas can be a bit temperamental at the best of times.
Other games that support the maracas are Samba De Amigo Ver.2000, Cool Cool
Toon and Virtual Tennis 2 supposedly. If you do own the maracas you should at
least get Samba De Amigo Ver.2000 as it's a great improvement over the first
game.

------------------------
MIP (Missing in PAL)
------------------------
56.6kps Modem,
Broadband Modem,
S-Video Lead
The Virtual-On Twin Sticks,
The Dreamcast Camera, DreamEye
The 4x Memory Card,
The ASCII PAD FT
The VGA adapter

A few notes, the VGA adapter was never officially released in Europe, but
there were an unofficial one produced. The Modem speaks for itself Sega of
Europe choose to use the Japanese 33.6k modem rather than the US 56.6k modem
and broadband was not widely available till 2004.

Sadly Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram was never released in this country neither
were the Twin Sticks, which is a great shame.(So I had to pick up Virtual On
on import (^-^) it's a great game) The 4x Memory Card kept getting put back
and back and back, until it was never released. The ASCII PAD FT was a flight
controller joypad and the Dreamcast camera speaks for itself. RGB Scart gives
a better picture than S-Video and is more widely use over here, so there was
no need for the official S-Video lead to be released.

10. Packaging Mistakes and Errors
=================================

Here are some interesting and funny facts about some of the European games.

1. (Dynamite Cop) Another manual error, this one mention about a free download
extra you can get from the net called the Detonator Pack. Sadly you can't
download it from the website, the manual direct you too. The Detonator Pack
was never released for the European version. Also the US and Japanese
Detonator Pack's don't work with the European Version of the game.
Currently I'm in the process of trying to get a US version of Dynamite Cop.
To see what the Detonator Pack is like and because the European version is
missing all three of the secret characters and the game is 50hz only :(.

Update I received an email from an M Rudolf saying that he has the PAL
Detonator Pack and got it from Dream On Vol 3. He has also uploaded it to
   his website http://home.arcor.de/mehrsein/hotmud however I can't download
it with my Dreamcast so am unable to test it. I can download it with my PC
but not the DC and am unable to transfer it. You can download it with a
a Planet Dream Web browser that's provided you can get it to work. If
anyone could upload it to a Dreamcast friendly website I would be very
grateful as I'm eager to see if it works or not. (Submitted by M Rudolf)

2. (Evil Twin) Page 13, the warning message on Super Cyp page has moved out of
the text box it is supposed to appear in, this fault also appears on the
   foreign language pages, 43, 73 and 103.

There is a typo in the inventory information section the word
decor is spelt wrong in the third paragraph of page 19 it is spelt as
d cor. Also the second paragraph above it doesn't read very well it should
read more like 'That object will now become your selected adventure item'.
The whole Evil Twin manual looks like it was done quickly to get it out.

Also the manual clearly state's that there is a 50/60hz option in
the game on page 6 of the manual, sadly it's missing. The only way to get
60hz in this game is to use an Xploder or DC-X disc.

3. (Evil Twin, Cannon Spike, Heavy Metal Geomatrix and Conflict Zone)
All 4 of these games where released by BigBen interactive, however it
appears that BigBen didn't spend a lot of money on printing the front and
back covers and the manual. All four games had their manual printed on the
wonk and the front and back covers looked like they were printed on an ink
jet printer, no joke. My Evil Twin manual has been cut so badly you can
see the date it was printed on: Tue Mar 26 2002 09.50.40 Grey.

4. (Evolution: The World of Sacred Devices)The back of the Evolution box state
that the game has VGA compatible, but it's not. (Submitted by Karachi King)

5. (Evolution 2: Far Off Promise) Not really a mistake, rather laziness on
behalf of Ubi Soft. Rather than doing the voiceovers in English or
allowing you to swap with or turn off the Japanese one's. Ubi Soft
decided to just leave them in, while some people like the Japanese voices
others don't. What really gets my goat is the answer they give in the
manual as to why they did it, integrity and preserve don't go well together
in a sentence, its such a patronising answer it's hard to believe. What's
even more strange is the PAL version is just a copy and paste of the US
version which was released, well before Sega canned the Dreamcast making it
   all the more bizarre.

6. (Exhibition of Speed) The manual from Exhibition of Speed refers to the
game as being Roadsters instead of EOS. Clearly a case of a quick copy-
paste from the prequel. Furthermore all screenshots in the manual have the
words 'PLACE HOLDER ART' on them. (Submitted by Casper Egas)

7. (F1 World Grand Prix 2) This game has no in game screenshots any where on
the box, that's never a good sign. Also because of the image used on the
back of the box it's hard to read the English text as it merges with the
   racing car backdrop.

The description for the Vibration, on page 37 of the manual is filled with
errors it reads: When using the Vibration Pack and this function is turned
on, your controller will vibrate when your are in a collision, bumps on the
track of goes over the curb.

This line should read: When using the Vibration Pack and this function is
turned on, your controller will vibrate when you are in a collision, go
over bumps on the track or go over the curb.

8. (Floigan Brothers: episode one) Page 29 of the manual states that there are
five option to select from the main menu. The game only has four to chose
from, but did I mention that this game should have an online bonus section?
Yep you guessed it the online mode was taken out, like so many other games.

9. (Fur Fighters) What the manual doesn't tell you is that this game is filled
to the brim with bugs and glitches. See some of the Fur Fighters FAQs for
   more details.

10.(Gauntlet Legends) Although each game saved only, takes up 3 blocks of
memory, the game actually need more to perform the save, so you'll need a
few spare block in your VMU. A point which the manual fails to inform you
   of.

11.(Grandia 2) The contents page in the manual is very wrong, for starters
it's said that there is a user support section on page 61, the manual only
goes up to page 60, which is the credit page. It also mentions a section on
Grandia 2 Goods as well, that section is also missing, the page numbers
for most of the other sections are also wrong. I believe the reason for all
the mistakes, is because the manual is based on the US version's manual,
only with certain pages removed. As the US manual, had a Grandia 2 Music CD
offer in it, which would have been in the removed Grandia 2 goods section.

12.(Half-Life) Despite Half-Life never getting an official release. Prima
was so eager to get out their strategy guide for Christmas that they
released it early, just a shame the game never was!

13.(Headhunter)Another case of a game with lots of bugs in it, the best one
being the bonus locker when you finish the game. If you open it you can't
get key items needed to finish the game.

14.(Iron Aces) Is not VGA compatible even though it say's it is on the back
   cover. (Submitted by Bossk2k3)

15.(Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes) If you check out the instruction
for the VS COM, VMU download. You'll notice that someone can't spell the
word friend correctly or fiend as MVC2 puts it.

16.(Metropolis Street Racer) MSR was recalled, in Europe when a bug was found
that would unlock courses even if you didn't have the correct kudos. This
is quite a handy bug, as it makes the game much easier.

17.(Mortal Kombat Gold) One of the most bug ridden games on the Dreamcast,
despite page 5 of the manual telling how to use the VMU and the save
options in the main menu of the game. The VMU feature does not work with
MKG, quite why it doesn't work I'll never know, Midway messed up big with
this game. Only a notice on page 3 of the manual informs you of Midway's
   error.

18.(NFL Blitz 2000) Normally on the side spine of the game the name of the
game is written on it, NFL Blitz 2000 side spine is just left blank!!

19.(Phantasy Star Online)The back of the box said "Download new quest
missions online to enjoy this never-ending adventure!" Download quests
were never released for V1 only V2. However the Japanese and USA V1
download quests did work the PAL V1. The same is not true for V2 however.
Shame the game didn't come with a warning stating online thieves and
cheaters may ruin your enjoyment of this game.

20.(Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein) Pages 15 & 16 of the manual have
a picture error on them. Next to Vector moves list there is a picture of
Zelkin and next to Zelkin moves list there is a picture of Vector.

21.(Psychic Force 2012) The picture of Regina, on the front cover has been
slightly censored, she is wearing a low top dress and is showing quite a
lot of her cleavage. Someone has painted her cleavage red, just like her
dress, interestingly if you turn to page 23 of the manual you'll see an
uncensored version of the Regina Picture.

Another interesting fact about Psychic Force 2012, is that it has a picture
on the reverse of the front cover, normally it's just left blank.

22.(Railroad Tycoon 2) This game comes with a Erratum card, which states that
in order to save your game the VMU must be inserted before loading.

23.(Resident Evil 2) The Japanese version of Resident Evil 2 came on one
GD-ROM but for some reason known only to Virgin Interactive and Capcom of
Japan the western release of the game came on two GD-ROM's increasing
   production cost.

A little oversight in the game itself, the game has 2 main play modes.
'Original Mode' and 'Arrange Mode'. In the Japanese game, 'Original Mode'
was based on the Japanese release, and 'Arrange Mode' was based on the
western release. The main differences are item placement, amount of
zombies, general difficulty. In the manual for the PAL game, it mentioned
these as if they were switched, so that in the PAL game, the 'Original
Mode' would have been the original western release, and 'Arrange mode being
based on the Japanese. However, the manual is incorrect, and 'Original
Mode' on the PAL game is still actually based on the Japanese game, and
'Arrange Mode' on the western. (Submitted by Shakey_Jake33)

JP Version (BIOHAZARD 2 Value Plus) is also 2 discs (Leon & Claire) just
like the PAL version. There's actually 3 discs in the package as it also
included a Trial version of Code Veronica. (Submitted by Kubrick)

24.(Rez)This first batch of Rez disc's printed were recalled when a number of
faulty discs where discovered. A faulty disc would soon deteriorate
after a couple of goes on Rez and would simply just stop working. These
were soon replaced but it did take Sega a few weeks to reissue Rez to
   shops.

25.(Shenmue 2) There are typo's in the character information section:
Page 54, Wong. Line 6, says "atopening", when it should be "at opening".
Page 55, Xiuying Hong. Lines 3 and 4, repeats "martial arts" twice for her
interests. Page 55, Fangmei Xun. Line 3, says "oved", when it should be
   "loved". (Submitted by Crazyreyn)

26.(Slient Scope) Despite being a light gun game in the arcade, Konami decided
not to use the Dreamcast Lightgun for this conversion. Making the Dreamcast
conversion no were near as good as the arcade game. A fault they corrected
in the Xbox home conversion which does support the lightgun.

27.(Soldier of Fortune) Soldier of Fortune was recalled on its release
following a major blunder by Ubi Soft. The BBFC 18 certificate was missing
off the UK box art so the game had to be recalled and reissued in the UK.
If you live outside the UK and are wondering what a BBFC certificate is,
to put it bluntly it's an age restriction and it is illegal to sell a game
to someone below the age of the certificate.

28.(Soul Calibur) The font they used for the summary writing on the back of
the box, is so bad, that it appears that they have spelled Soul Calibur
wrong, or Soul Callbur as the box puts it.

29.(Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer) This game does not support stereo sound it
even said so in the manual. Which is rather odd as most games since the
SNES days have supported stereo sound.

30.(Street Fighter Alpha 3) The manual is missing Guile's moves list.

31.(Stupid Invaders) The warning message at the bottom of page 5 reads:
"WARNING: Do not the mouse when you switch on the Dreamcast console,"
The word 'move' is missing between the not and the.

32.(Surf Rocket Racers) The side spine of Surf Rocket Racers has the game's
name wrongly as Surf Rocket Racer someone forgot the 's' in 'Racers'.

33.(Tech Romancer) Is VGA compatible though it doesn't state it on the
back of the box. (Submitted by Bossk2k3)

34.(Toy Racer) Page 25 of the manual mentions about 4 hidden vehicles, no one
I know, has every found them. If they had to be unlock while online this is
now impossible as the Toy Racer server has now been shut down in Europe.

35.(Unreal Tournament) The manual from page 15 is badly miss printed, you get
blank pages, pages with pictures on them but no text and some pages have
a picture of a weapon on them but the text next to them is for a different
weapon! All UT manuals have this problem, sloppy very sloppy.

36.(Urban Chaos) Urban Chaos suffers from a number of bugs and is one of the
few game you can improve the performs of the game by adjusting some of the
   in game options.

Also the game doesn't have an ending when you finish the last mission it
just goes back to the level selection screen. I guess Eidos decided not to
hire many bug testers, however as I haven't play the PC version I can't say
if this game ever had an ending, but I suspect it did and this is more a
case of being a dodgy port.

37.(V-Rally 2 Expert Edition) This game comes with a Erratum card, referring
to a mistake in the game. V-Rally 2 has a problem like, Gauntlet Legends
where by the game needs some spare memory to perform the save itself.
