The Times
REPORT FROM WOKING
A TELEGRAPH WAS RECEIVED LAST NIGHT WITH FURTHER NEWS OF THE EVENTS ON HORSELL COMMON.
Readers may recall that late on Thursday night a large, cylindrical object landed on the common between Horsell, Ottershaw and Woking. This object, first thought to be a meteorite, has proven to be a craft from our sister planet, Mars, containing visitors from that world.
The telegraph reads: ''The Martians, alarmed by the approach of a crowd, have killed a number of people with a quick-firing gun.
''Believed to be among the dead are Ogilvy, a local astronomer, who first discovered the cylinder; a London journalist by the name of Henderson; and the Astronomer Royal. All were members of a small deputation organised to greet the Martians and welcome them to our world. However, it is apparent that the visitors must be mad with fright, for they will allow no one to approach the pit in which their cylinder lies.
''The military has formed a cordon around the cylinder to prevent further civilians from approaching the Martians. Attempts have been made to signal the Martians, but to no avail .
''Formidable as they seem to be, the Martians have not moved from the pit into which they have fallen, and, indeed, seem incapable of doing so. Probably this is due to the relative strength of the earth's gravitational energy.''
