Kyrius Soulaikken’s Guide to making,
being and Staying a Sorcerer

I am sure that by now, you have seen many Sorcerer guilds as you are scrolling down the libraries in search of help. And now you have chosen this one. I can not give you any reason why you should trust me, and some might say (though I hope not) that I am a blistering idiot when it comes to sorcerery. They could be right! But here is my guild on the sorcerer, some my agree some may disagree, and no, i’m not some level 50 legend but, here you are, a guide to the sorcerer. . .

Chapter I: Why to be a Sorcerer

If you are reading this, and you are sitting there, wishing that you did not have to read this, thinking that this is boring and you should be out hunting rats, ‘hey that the point of the game isn’t it?’; well then you shouldn’t even try being a sorcerer. The sorcerer is NOT designed for the guy who can not sit still, for the guy who has to do something at all times, and something exiting and fun. No. If you are that, then go join the warrior guild! That profession is there to hunt, and kill and advance fast. You may call the sorcerer boring. You need to have alot of patience, because the sorcerer develops slowly, and is generally, for the first 5 years, one of the weakest professions. Now that I have talked from real bad point of view( not to mention that half my readers are probably looking for a new sorcerer guide or for a warrior guide :)), I will talk about the good parts of the sorcerer. He just gets funner and funner. Here is my personal point of view if you are still with me: The professions that use physical strength, will be able to go off fighting orcs at level 3, but thats all. More and more AS and DS. Thats it! Thats all they get! They may be the rich warrior, but that is not the fun thing I see in the game. Nothing new happens. When they reach a new level. They increase their AS (yes, they do get other skills if you wanna be exact: 2 hand weapon Shield Use Physical training etc. This is not a warrior guide so, do you my catch my drift?). Thats all! Nothing to try out besides how quick they can kill an orc. Now the sorcerer, gets around to spells per level. Spells to try out, to cast at your enemies, you (only if its a beneficial one obviously, unless your suicidal.), your friends. See what happens. Watch in glory. Be the spell caster that helps all his friends.

So now you say, yeah, so why should I not be a Cleric or an Empath or a Wizard. You can be any of these, any time, no problem. But they are all different so choose. A cleric, uses power from his/her deighty. Basically a person who fights undead. An empath is a person who heals. A wizard who is a person who casts Bolt Spells. Bolt Spells are spells that the target can dodge, because they are real things, that are visible, really there, physically. Fireballs, a death beam, a stream of rapid fire water, all that lovely stuff. Now, sorcerers, sorcerers use dark spirits. There is no dodge, just TD (target defense).

These characters spells are spells that are ‘disgusting’ just look at the list. Which, for those of you who are not using another guide, convinced this Kyrius guy is allitle whacked up in the mind yet, brings us to a new subject.

Chapter II: The Roleplaying of the Sorcerer.

The Sorcerer is a misunderstood profession. Because sorcerers draw there powers from dark spirits, and produce grotesque sites, EVERYONE THINKS THAT THE SORCERER HAS TO BE EVIL. I was once even told that sorcerers were so evil, they could not kiss hug or marry(yeah, you guessed right, the guy who told me that did not now the difference between his elbow and his leg.)Sorcerers is not necessarily evil. Yes, many sorcerers are evil, but you do not HAVE to be evil to be a sorcerer. One thing I must stress and you could go against this, it is your character after all, but: Sorcerers are not the happy, childish hyper people. NO! The sorcerer is calm, does not speak much and is not too friendly. You can, but if you do go around jumping around saying "Hullo, how are you? My name is Tumblefoot Speedcreek. Nice to meet you sir. Did you know, that, once I saw A BLUE ROLTON! Yeah! I did! Hey, wanna go hunt i’m a great hunter hee-hee." (:::Stares at you with a ‘yeah right’ look on his face.) If there are people like me in GSIII you will probably get glares, and comments at you. But you can, do not get me wrong. Now, lets look at the sorcerer. The sorcerer is the guy with the black hood over his face, hiding it completely, with glowing eyes when he casts, the cackle, the rituals, the eerie glow when he walks in, the chilly feeling, the smell of death, the bitter smile. Yet somehow, wise. He speaks not much, when he does it is impossible to disagree, short tempered yet calm and dark. He is not unfriendly to all. But don’t think that when there are only people around he knows that he’s going to party and be normal. He is mortal, he just tries to cast a charismatic shield over that fact. If you know who he is, think of Raistlin Majere or Dalamar the Dark in Dragonlance. If you have not, thats okay, I will not talk about that, Dlance copyrighted. Anyway, I think you catch my drift on RPing of the sorcerer.

Chapter III: Rolling up your Sorcerer.

Now here is the most boring part in the game. Could take long. DO NOT use Quick Gen. (:::Looks at you with that ‘yeah right’ look again:) ) Quick Gen chooses your stats and skills for you and you will regret it. Do it yourself. Now, here are the different uses of the different stats. This is in no particular order, I will do that later.

Strength: How physically strong you are. This is what makes your AS. Also has something to do with how good you can drag and how hard you can hit. Yeah, if you have guessed for the first 5 years of life, this is an important stat.
Reflex: Also very important, always. Its dodge strength (DS)
Aura: Aura contributes alot to how much mental points you have as does wisdom. Also, it gives you your mana (that the stuff that you need a certain amount of to cast a spell for those of you who are really new.) It also makes Spirit Points, resurrection stuff. For a sorcerer, its very important.
Wisdom: While also contributing to your MTP ( (M)ental (T)raining (P)oints ), it is what makes your CS (casting strength), (the AS for spell casting if you might). Always one of the most important rolls for the sorcerer.
Discipline: All that this does at this point is it makes alot of MTP. As the 2 above its very important for the sorcerer.
Intelligence: I will look at it like many do, a bucket filled with water. Your head is the bucket, experience you gain is the water. Intelligence is how quick that bucket fills up. The size of the bucket :)
Logic: Here is some more on the bucket. How quick it drains. If you are not gaining any exp it will start to drain. Logic makes it drain faster.
Constitution: This is how much damage you can take before dying, or getting big wounds. This determines how much HP you have, and how much more you get every time you train in Physical Training.
Dexterity: Your Wand AS. It is also designed for stealing. But if you want to steal and be a thief, why in Imeara’s name are you reading a sorcerer guide?
Charisma: Now almost everyone can disagree to me on this one, and it may be some dumb pride, but I can not stand being considered an ugly, non charismatic old fart. Charisma is A.) how convincing you are and B.) How cute, handsome, and beautiful you are. In GSIII charisma determines your age and how good at haggling you are. Merchants will let you haggle lower. Thats all. Lots of people say that useless and dumb to put a high roll in it. I agree with them. But I guess that I have some strange teen pride, I just can not stand considering myself, ugly. If you have the willpower to, put a low roll in it. :)

Now, heres were you should put these: Highest in Wisdom or Aura, your chose you know what both of them do now. Discipline is very important, but with the fact that you have to pass those terrible first 5 levels were you will be forced to use physical power, Strength and Reflex are very important. I think reflex is more important cause I enjoy being a safe camper. That means not getting hit as much, but not hitting as much either. :::Shrugs. The choice is yours. Now, the rolls I just mentioned ALL HAVE TO BE AT VERY LEAST IN THE 70’s. Thats gonna take a while. But those 20 minutes while affect you forever. YOU COULD go for the first roll you see, but that ignorance will reflect on thou character. It just 20 minutes of years of fun in GSIII(if you plan to play for more than 5 minutes, which this game is designed for, actually.)! After those, go any way you want. Charisma, Dexterity and Constitution are not important for the Sorcerer.

Chapter IV: Choosing a Race.

I will start of with do nots, in order from worst to least worst. Taboo to just ‘naaa’.

GiantMan: DO NOT BE A GIANTMAN SORCERER. I have never, ever seen one and I am happy! Now, those of you who about to clobber me, hold on. I do not mean that giantmen are a bad species or something, but they are not good magic users. Period. Look at their stats. (Looks at you with that ‘yeah right’ look again). Giantmen are great warriors. No offense, but they are dumb. But extremely strong. While so dumb, they couldn’t find the door own room, why look for one, when you can make a new one? But a sorcerer is a frail magic user so do not even try.
Dwarf: Yeah right. Just imagine the Scottish accented sorcerer. A dwarf is a short, smarter (but more drunk) form of a giantman. Yeah, i’m talking a strong guy. "Oy-noy laddie." Don’t be a dwarven Sorcerer.
Halfling: I was probably impersonating an everyday halfing when I did the ‘Tumble Speedcreek’ thing. They are the happy, playful guys, that are really short, speak like with a mousy voice and enjoy there rum. Kind and collective. Not THAT much on the stats, but on the RPing a halfling is not a sorcerer.

Now, here are some of the things you wanna be, from the very best to the okay.

Dark Elven: He’s ‘da bomb’ for sorcerers. Look at those stats! These are even good for the role playing, as Dark Elves are short tempered (seen in there discipline) calm, and just a little bit sly. Dark Elves are elves who are banished elves, slowly they began to become known as a totally different species.
Elves: yeah, I guess elves are good sorcerers. Its just that the discipline goes alittle bit far. Elves have an attitude if you do not already know, just look at books. They think themselves better than other races. But then again they have reasons to be, they are more handsome, smarter and agile than other races, but weaker also, and their long life makes their discipline short.
Sylankind: I once even thought about it. But it wasn’t meant to be a sorcerer. Okay for ‘em though. Some skills we won’t use their. These are just another kind of elves, wood elves. Make great rangers.
Human: As you know humans are humans. The medium normal balanced race. Kind of good, but. . .
Half Elf: This is acceptable, but. . .on the edge. There is a great feeling, that even though its not a do not , to much agility and dexterity related skills are going to waste.

There are you’re races, and now, skills!

Chapter V: Skills. What should I train in Uncle Kyrius? (kidding)

Here is some junk you will need for those first 5 years, after you are past those years, stop training: Edged Weapons. This is the weapon your gonna use, a sword, not 2 handed, thats to expensive. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Blunt Weapons. Choose one of the 2 and stick with it. Blunt is a bashing weapon. I prefer edged because they are more common.

Shield Use. Train in this and then buy a shield and use wear it and you’ll have a better DS. Good deal, huh?
Physical Training: This gives you +HP. Need this for the first 5 years. During your life, train in this till its above 50, then leave alone until you decide to go fight BIG DANGEROUS creatures. Really big dangerous creatures. Till your about 10, 50 will do fine. An average for levle 1 is 20 so be at least that when you start of. (Not essential, but. . .)
Armor Use: This will lower your RT. I will tell you later, that sorcerers do not use heavy armor, because it hinders spell casting, so this is not essential if it is too costly for you.
First Aid: Heal your own wounds! Yeah! How fun? Pretty useful also helps you skin better.

Now here comes the stuff that you always need that is like, totally essential and will be a super weapon: Spell Research: Gives you a spell . You chose from Sorcerer Base, Minor Spiritual or Minor Elemental. You can have as many as you can afford but a level 1 person can only handle level 1 spells so. . . And don’t forget theres lots of other skills you need. "Which ones should I pick Uncle Kyrius?" Well, every time, you should pick at least two, and those 2, well, um. . .okay, here we go:

You should always take the sorcerer base, cause that is your TM and most powerful.

The choice is yours after this spiritual is defense basically, and elemental is offense. NOT ALWAYS. But basically. Problem with elemental is theres to many disarm and lock pick spells. Most sorcerers take the first 3 spiritual ones, which are considered fundamental sorcerer defenses, and after that, go with elemental. You may want to switch around, the choice is yours, look at them.

That went alittle of course, did it not? Well back to our skills:

Mana Sharing: This is how to add on your CS. This is what most of Sorcerer spells are made up of, so train in this every year as much as you can. Spell aiming is useless, maybe one or two spells will use that, if you want to use Wizard Wands train in spell aiming, otherwise. . .
Magic Item Use or Scroll Reading: For early years, choose one and stick with it. Later use both if you have the TP’s. Magic Item Use are wands and crystal Balls and amulets, and scroll reading is the ability to read scrolls. Scrolls carry certain spells and when you INVOKE (spell) you can use that spell like wands, til it runs out of charges.
Perception: Notice if someones stealing from you and stuff like that including avoid ambush, pretty useful and cheap.

Now heres other skills that you might think about, but are in no way ESSENTIAL.

Climbing or Swimming: Enables travel in climbing and water terrain. Your choice. Pretty useful, after you get the point were you are going to go out into the wilds and hunt and explore everywhere.
Lock Picking and Disarming:Not very useful for a sorcerer. Hey, you could and make use of it, but it might be right. Will be nice when you get those Disarm and Unlock though.
Other skills, are your choice if you have the TP’s Ambushing, Brawling and hiding are not that useless. If you want to be Mr. Do it All, I would not hinder you. Combat Maneuvers is very useful, +AS and DS, if only it was not so costly.

Chapter VI: Now, you’re a sorcerer!

You will now be in the World of Elanthia. Getting a map is good. Very good. Go to all the places on the Directory and Ta, Da! Your level 1! To claim a level just go to the Inn and check in. Train in what you like after I gave you my overview. Now this is not a newbie guide so i’m not gonna tell you how to talk and walk and act. So if thats what your looking for, try again. In the Catacombs, preferably in the Abandoned Sewers, you will find it a great place for new people to hunt. Now before, we jump into that and I get you killed, lets get prepared. Buy a weapon (one of that of the skill you chose). Then, buy a shield. For now, go with a leather or visored helm or something like that. Do not go above Full Leather, or you will be getting "You’re armour prevents you from casting that spell" too much. A thought is not to hunt this young at all. Just go to the moot hall, the debt collectors office and ‘ask clerk about job’. You’ll run messages to different NPC(non player characters)’s and slowly gain experience and money. Either that, or go hunting in the catacombs! When your mind numbs go lie down, and before you know it, you will be level 2. When you get the money, repay your debt. They will get nasty if you don’t I’ve seen them do it. Once you’re 2 and have the money, dispense with leather and get cloaks and robes and the clerics shop or the clothier. Remember that you can get 3000 exp just by answering the Thraks questions. Now, if you were anything but a sorcerer(well, maybe not an empath but. . .), I would tell you to go out to the wilds now, you are set to start the real adventure! But here is the first 5 year deal. For their first 5 years sorcerers are WEAK! Wizards Magic Defense and casting goes up quick but ours does not. We are the weak ones. After 5, it will get better, you will be a good caster with a variety of spells and it will be okay, but right now you’re weak. I am sorry. The good part is, later the sorcerer will become the strongest. Once you’ve achieved three you can go and hunt kobolds and goblins and roltons. At 4 or 5, i’d stick with rats, but there are hobs or you could go to Icemule. At 8, orcs and Chieftans, and at this point I think that you can decide from a chart what is good for you.

Chapter VII: Notes and A look at the Spells

Here is the special thing about the sorcerer. Wizards special thing is they advance quickly, clerics is they can join a deighty and sorcerers can switch stances, without having their CS and magic defenses switch. What I am saying is you could be in stance defensive and still have the same CS as you did in offensive, and visa versa (Same magic defense in offensive). This is important when you are fighting tough, strong creatures, cause you can move to defensive and cast just as well as you did in offensive. That is why the sorcerer is good for going of once you have Mana Disrupt, and fighting more than rats. Even though I just said that, that does not mean go fight something you can not beat. The catch is you have to able to hit him with your spells. OK? Now here is a look at the spells for 8 and under:

Blood Burst: I’m not all so sure about this cause it recently changed. Bloodburst, used to be a spell that did minimal damge, and gave you a 1 per round bleeder, which is not so bad, because you gain 1 per round. All that did was stopped the target from getting better. It changed. I have seen these things give 5 per bleeders now. Thats serious. You could kill someone like that. No more playfully casting it at your friend. =^)
Mana Disruption: I can not emphasize enough, how lucky the sorcerer is to get this spell at such an early level. This spell should be a pride and joy. It is POWERFUL. I will tell you what it does. Just plain out kills them. Thats what its meant for. This is what will be your basic spell. Once you no longer have a round time on this spell, thats the jump to power on the sorcerer. I will tell you, one of my level 2 characters, killed a lesser orc with this. At level 2! It will due as much as 80 damage, alot. Heres the spell that is your weapon.
Forget: I fail to see great importance in this spell but i’ll talk about that later, here is what it does. Your target prepares a spell. You cast this at him, he forgets it and can not cast it for awhile. Also makes him forget spells he had prepped. Can be useful, but what is a level three guy gonna be hunting? Thyrils and Relnaks and Rats and Kob and roltons and Gobs and Cave Gnomes. Out of those 7, 1 of them, the cavie, casts spells. Will be useful later though. You should just cast it on the target just any time. Because you can not stop him once he has prepped it, cause you have to prep it too! Later it will be useful, though.
Phase: Interesting for secrets and RPing, but not gonna be useful in combat. Lets you walk through doors and stuff like that, as long as they are openable by someone else. Yeah, you could use it on containers and boxes and take the stuff back out that you found in the box. My friend did insane things like broke into the private rooms of different people in a certain House, and other crazy things when he got this spell cast on him. Do not try that, my friend no longer uses that character and my friend is missing some cups in his cubbord(he belongs in an asylum). =)
Breaklimb: If it gets the legs, the target will collapse. If it gets the arms, the target will drop everything in its hands. Also gives a 2 per HP loss. Pretty Useful.
Mind Jolt: I like this spell. It is very useful. It will stun the target if the roll is good. That means it can not attack or stuff. If the guy warded better it will just lower AS and DS.
Eye Spy: Some might say this is the trademark of the sorcerer. It is very disgusting, so do not try to show it of on your new date. Makes your eye pop out of your head, grow wings and fly around. Tell eye to go (direction). Tell Eye to look. Tell eye to return. Basically used to scout. A very minor version of a familiar if you might.
Pain Infliction: Target 25% of his HP. Nice spell. Lasts 2 minutes or so.
Theres your first 8 spells. Yet to be implemented, is our last spell the Demonic Summoning. If you ever get that far, E-Mail me!

Chapter VIII: Sadly, you are now on your own!

Now you’re on your own. Be the best sorcerer you can be, follow etiquette, and kick critter butt. It so sad to see you students go away!!! :::sobs (kinding again).

There is your sorcerer guide. Not law, but my ideas. Once your a better sorcerer you may disagree with me. I do not blame you. There you go hope, its helped don’t cry, and have fun in the game!
