I must admit that I am not a
great fan of Runequest. I always thought the world was too magical, never
agreeing with every character being able too use magic in its varying forms.
One Game Master however has
shown me that you can have fun playing Runequest and that is Nikk Effingham.
His games are maddening and
chaotic but hey that's the fun of it. You can get involved with a good
game plot (and Nikk Produces them every time) and develop your character
at the same time as having a good old dungeon bash. Nikk's good at tying
them together.
What else which is good about
Nikk's game are the variations and additions too the rules that he has
made and you can find them (and believe me there are a lot of good variations
and additions) at Nikk
Effingham's Roleplaying Crucible
which is at this address
http://members.xoom.com/wakboth/.
The site is also a good source
of other roleplaying information for other games.
I am quite new too Nikk's game
which he calls Storms over Ralios.
The first character that I played
was short lived which is a shame because I was beginning to like him. He
was reputed to be the son of a god and was quite famous throughout the
lands. When I played him I managed to pass through the most lethal traps
you have ever seen and fight a powerful stone warrior all without wearing
any armour and hardly had a scratch to show. I thought he would go along
way with such a beginning yet fate decided to show her fickle nature. When
we returned home to safety I was sever spirited by an artifact I was trying
to bond to. (Sulk)
The second character I now play
is Marial Staffsplitter (formerly Brewers) who was of the Farmer cast and
an Initiate of Milinster. She is a lot different from the last character
and is very interested in Sorcery and Spirit magic. She is a young attractive
woman who follows cults of Nature, Alcohol and Fertility and is the Daughter
of Bovril and Nectar Brewers who own a Tavern and Brew their own ale.
Marial is now one of the most
powerful members of the group. She is a great warrior, she has some sorcery
and plenty of spirit and divine magic.
She recently was disgraced when
she revealed to the Arch Bishop of St Orlanth that she had been a member
of Lodril whilst she was informing him of a Vampire threat.
She now only belongs to the
cults of St Orlanth and Bearfoot Harnmaster.
Marial is building up her former
status again and is a member of the Lord caste. (She had been a Council
Member in the Rawson Family)
Marial is married to the hero Cei Staffsplitter and has a son with him, Balor Staffsplitter who was born in the underworld.
Marial believes she has a role in the upcoming hero wars and may have connections to Arkat. Though which aspect she does now know.
