I cannot claim to be the only person who has ever tried to cycle across Africa. Click here for an account of the journey that inspired mine, made in 1994-95. Click here for an account of a journey from Uganda to Johannesburg in 1998-99 Click here for photos taken by an American who cycled from Cape Town to Nairobi in 35 days. There are also several people who are attempting or have attempted variations on cycling around the world. One site worth checking out is www.roundtheworldbybike.com. A good forum for people interested in bike touring is www.biketrip.org. For general information about the countries I am riding through, go to the University of Pennsylvania's African Studies page. Finally, the International Bicycle Fund has made available a Travel Guide to Africa by Bike (not much detail). This is by no means a comprehensive list. There are many other sources of information that would be helpful in planning a cycling trip in Africa. Let me know what you find. |
