Da Nang Mafia Comes to Quebec-3 | |||||||||
"There is something different about a Marine. Marines are members of a 'mystical fraternity'. Born of smoke and the danger death." Stephen Crane Sergeant Nevins stood shirtless in the middle of the compound as he watched a dust cloud caused by a jeep coming down the road. He could see two figures in the jeep but they were too far away for him to recognize who they were. He thought they were probably heading for hill 190 next to us and the Grunt Company sitting on top of it. Therefore, he was surprised when the jeep stopped at the entrance to Quebec-Three and the two people got out. It turned out to be Lieutenant Vidito, Quebec Company skipper, and the Company Gunny. Nevins greeted the LT but did not salute. He knew too many VC snipers watched the compound and would love to get a shot at an officer. "What brings you out to Indian Country?" Nevins asked the LT. "I have good news for you", the Lieutenant replied, "I have two replacements for you". Nevins nodded his head, "We sure can use them. We are spread way too thin and more than likely the VC will try to overrun us again. What can you tell me about them? What are their ranks, did they just get out of CAP school? How much time do they have in country? Lieutenant Vidito removed his cover and wiped the sweat from his brow before he spoke, "they didn't go to CAP school"... |
