The Lord of the Rings is an epic adventure that begins in the Shire, home of the Hobbits, the little people of Middle Earth. Bilbo Baggins is celebrating his 111th birthday and is planning on leaving his home in the Shire, leaving his earthly possessions to Frodo, his nephew. One of these possessions is a magic ring, which Gandalf, his wizard friend, believes to be a powerful object created in the distant past and owned by the Dark Lord Sauron.
Sauron, who had not been seen for some time, has risen again and is seeking the Ring in order to restore his powers, making him invincible. In order to prevent this, the Ring must be destroyed in the volcanic fires of Mount Doom in Mordor, where it was created.
Frodo Baggins volunteers to carry the Ring and is accompanied by eight other companions and they start the journey together to Mount Doom. The nine companions meet many challenges and enemies along the way as they strive to save Middle Earth from the forces of Sauron. |
