page 1 The Parents Job Why has it been so hard for me to trust in God? I am going to answer one of the fundamental questions of the day. I must say this now. I am not a counselor nor have I had any schooling to that end. I am just a man who has studied the bible and found many answers which seem to have eluded the typical person studying the scriptures. Or should I say, the real life application has been missed? After that brief but to the point statement let me say this. The commonly accepted rule in psychiatry today is --- (It's your parents fault) ---. No matter what or why it tends to place blame on your upbringing. There seems to be no basis for this except to say you could have been a better person if mom and dad had adequately taught you more of the proper things, pointing out their faults etc. The psychology of the day tends to stop short pointing out where they, our parents, went wrong measuring by societies standards. And THEREIN is the problem, Societies Standards. Societies standards vary all over the world and all through time. Example given: In this present time in some eastern cultures a woman will be put to death for letting a small part of her leg or face show. Whereby in our western, Hot Pants and a fabric shy top may gleefully be the apparel of choice. What a contrast between societies!! There is a book out now days often advertised as the owners manual of the human mind. It is my opinion, that is incorrect. Though I have never read it. My opinion being: How could it be the owners manual as the writer did not create the human mind or man. All owners manuals I know of were written by the manufacture of the product or their assigned agent God had a plan for man when He made us. I am referring to the family unit. Parents were to love and nurture there children and teach them His ways. Well that's not telling you much ugh? We have all been told that since we were kids. So what's the beef? Why did God tell us to do this? That's simple enough. So the kids would be taught about God and serve Him? Have you ever looked through a looking glass or a pair of eyeglasses? Were they dirty or clouded to the point that it was difficult to see through them? Have you ever had something in your eye and you could not see through it because it was so watered and clouded your vision was impaired? Why so many silly questions? Gods instruction was given so we could CLEARLY show HIM living in us to our children. We are not to mess up the view of Him through us by taking on a worldly appearance or a reflection of the society we live in. He sat down one set of rules for all mankind. Not an ever changing compilation of social ideas. When we are very young we have no concept of God so how could a small child see Him in us? We first learn to feel love and all the joys that come with it from our mother and father. For the most part we learn gentle and compassionate love from our mother and the obedience side of love from our father. In this we get our first glimpse of God. That later in life is transferred to the way we see God. Is God a god of love. Is God a god of incest or uncontrolled / unsanctioned sex? Is God a violent god never to turn your back on? When I do not trust a person such as my spouse or God is it because I never learned to trust my father? We learn in terms of the principals formed from our parents. How we view God Our Heavenly Father is born from how we view our earthly fathers. Sorry Dad but in the Bible, Dad is the head of the house thus shouldering the brunt of responsibility to raise his children in the ways of The Lord. God set up this world with us to worship and display Him. The family unit was set up to display Him to the children, the future worshipers of Him. We are to show our children, Him living in us.
