Love For A Grandson Here is a little story about Grand Ma Bernice. It happened to me so it is a real story set in the early 1960’s. “When I was younger, so much younger than today…” Artist “The Beatles” song “Help” I have found I do need other peoples love, in every way. There was a time when I was 10 years old. Yea, I was 10 one time, I bet you young people didn’t know that. Nettie, Richard and I had to have our tonsils removed. We were in the hospital at the same time for this. After surgery Grand Ma Bernice was attending me in the hospital bed making me comfortable etc. She was standing so close and without regard to what might happen and often did back in that day. She was a poor lady and when she bought a new dress it was a special occasion. To her, surgery at the hospital on her grandchildren was a very special event and required her very best. She wore a new dress. This as I remember, was the first time she had worn it, brand new. I got sick as people often did in those days from the surgery, blood running down the throat. She was standing there so close holding a damp cool wash cloth on my forehead. Then it happened. The contents of my stomach came forth and landed right in the front her new garment. I remember it was a print dress, that was her favorite back then. The stains could not be removed. It was destroyed. Over the years that bothered me so much. I mentioned it to her several times and she always said “Don’t worry about it. It’s OK”. Now for some the loss of a dress would be OK, no big deal. But for her and Grand Paw, I am sure they had to make a big sacrifice to buy it so she would be in her best at the hospital, with her grandchildren. “The love of a Grand Mother” Timothygme |
