William is here! But we've left our letter online for others to learn from. We're not looking for a new birthmom at this time. Click the banner above to see Will, though! :-)

...our real-world letter...

Hello! We’re Tim and Debbie McLain.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity to open our hearts and share a little about ourselves. We hope that you’ll come to know us, love us, and trust us to raise and love your child as our very own.

We've been married since 1994 and children have always been an important part of our lives. Since we’re unable to have children together, we’re so grateful for the chance to bring a baby into our home through open adoption.

Our home near Raleigh, NC.

We have so much love and affection to give a child, and have prayed and planned both of our lives around becoming parents. Debbie has been a nanny for more than four years. She's taken care of three newborns and five young boys and a teenage girl.

Nannying has helped Debbie satisfy her natural mothering instincts, and this labor of love has taught her how to be a patient, loving mom-in-training. Deb loves to sing to her children, and knows the words to virtually every Disney song! She will be a stay at home mom, and can’t wait to fulfill that dream.

A lighter moment --
Tim and his damsel in distress!

Tim is an author and nationally-known education technology trainer. Over the past six years he’s helped thousands of students and teachers make the most of computers and the Internet in the classroom. He is passionate about using technology to turn today’s young students into life-long learners, and is proud to have written six+ books on Internet use in schools.

We very much want to share our feeling of family, fun, and adventure with a daughter or son. We want you to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings with us, and hope you’ll want to get to know us better.

Our Activities
We’re really kids at heart! Many of our weekends are spent in nearby parks, fishing and hiking together. Many local families flock to Bond, Crabtree, and Jordan Lakes, each just a few miles away. One even has a sandy beach, perfect for swimming! Tim recently caught five fish, and made sure all the children who were nearby got a chance to see and (yuk!) touch them. We also fly our kite as often as we can, and relax in the afternoon sun. At home, we love spending time together talking, reading, and playing board games and Nintendo 64 with our friends. Deb even beats Tim at Mario Kart and 007 from time to time!

Our Family
We’re both from big families. Tim is the oldest in a set of triplets, plus he has a younger brother and sister to boot. Debbie is number four out of five, joined by three brothers and a sister. Holidays are huge family affairs, with lots of love, laughter, piano playing, and singing.

Our son or daughter will have lots of company when our clans get together -- five grandparents, two great-grandmothers, 14 aunts and uncles, five nephews, and two nieces -- with two more babies on the way. We’ve lived in PA and CA, and have settled in NC. Travels often take us back to PA and CA to visit family. We’re anxious to share our family and travels with a child of our own! Our adopted child will be the very first grandchild on Tim's side of the family.

Our Home
We live near Raleigh & Durham, NC, a beautiful place that’s frequently ranked as one of the best places to raise a family in the United States. Family-friendly activities are always easy to find. We’re surrounded by top-notch schools, both public schools and universities. We look forward to sharing the mild climate with our child -- walking in the spring, swimming and fishing in the summer, and sledding on the hills in winter. Our local community is home to many children, who ride their bikes, roller blade, and play basketball together. Our cats, Sammy and Deli, love to watch our popular bird feeders (lots of Cardinals) and can’t wait to have a playmate!
