Wing Walk Area |
After reviewing the Mark Langford way to construct the stub wings (glass on both sides for strenth, though he used CF) and Mark Jones' design for the wing walk area, I decided to take what I felt was the best from each. |

This photo and the one next to it show my version of what Mark Jones did. Here I chose 1/2" by 1/2" spruce and installed them at 2" spacing between ribs set 11" apart. Triangular gussets were added under to add strength. |
Note that the 1/2" by 1/2" spruce is set down about 1/2". This is a main deviation which I did from what Mark Jones did. |

My plan is to glass the underside of the foam as did Mark Langford. This will then be place on top of the plywood. Additional pictures will be added once I get to this point. |

3/32" ply was then added. |

So....here's what I decided to do. I bought a yard of carbon fiber and cut various size pieces on the bias from this yard. This is the largest and measures 24 x 36. This is sitting on plastic. I wetted this piece out, added a 16 x 32 inch piece, wetted this out and finally added a 12 x 25 inch piece. I then lifted the plastic over to the stub wing placing the triple thickness on top of the double thick KR glass thus giving 5 thicknesses at the walk area. |
Here I have the foam installed. I used 5/8" thick styrafoam over wingwalk area for added density. Two layers of KR glass are over the blue foam but after curing, I pushed on this area with my hand and could hear the foam "give" a little and knew that this would not do. |

And here she is covered with peel ply ready to cure until tomorrow morning. |

So, here is the end product after micro has been added and all has been sanded. I have put my full wieght on this area with no problem. But my thought is that Mark Jones has the best wing walk plan. I added the foam over Mark's design for sanding, but it also adds squish. Do it the Mark Jones way is my 2 cents worth. |
