SANTA BARBARA:
CRUZ AND EDEN 2000
We, the loyal and faithful viewers witnessed one of the most magical and special couples of all daytime created on Santa Barbara, Cruz and Eden. They endured every heartache imaginable and their love conquered all. So when the powers that be destroyed this beautiful love story, I was totally outraged. So, I have taken a creative license and rewritten their storyline a bit.
To begin with, the whole Lisa/Suzanne/Channing stuff never existed, but rather it was all a part of what Eden dreamed during her comma. For the fans that don't remember, Eden was in a car accident on her way to confess she was the one who killed "Robert" that night at his and Kelly's house.
While she was in the comma she "lived" those episodes of an alter personality. While Eden was in the comma everyone except Cruz gave up believing she would come back her same vibrant self, after all, they did share the same lifeline. After months of being in the comma, Eden started to show signs she was coming out of it. First, there was the squeezing of Cruz's hand, then the occasional tear running down her check. The doctors attributed it to involuntary reflexes, but Cruz knew better. This is what he had been living and praying for, and his prayers were about to be answered when a miracle occurred.
Every free moment Cruz had he spent by Eden's side, talking to her, willing her to wake up. One day as he sat by her side, the alarms on the machine that were monitoring her began to go off. Cruz ran to get the doctors, but turned back around and said the hell with them. He climbed on her bed and pulled her up to him and yelled, "don't leave me darlin…. It's time to wake up Eden". It's as if something inside her clicked, and she opened her eyes and said in a very low voice "Cruz". He kissed her gently on the forehead and welcomed her back.
After the doctors examined Eden and gave her a clean bill of health, Cruz finally took her home. She told him of the wild images she had where she was this other person who was a jewel thief, and how she was away from the family and nobody knew where she was. Cruz associated it with an overactive imagination. She was back with her family where she belonged and that's all that mattered Cruz lovingly assured her.
After the family had a huge celebration at the Orient Express to celebrated Eden's recovery, Cruz decided it was time for them to get away. He packed up Eden and the kids and they went on a family vacation abroad that lasted a few years. When they returned to Santa Barbara, they arrived with two new additions to their family, Gabrielle and Hope Castillo, twin daughters, who, incidentally were born on April 1st, Cruz and Eden's magical day….
Fast Forward to the year 2000…..
Cruz is working in his office at the police station when the phone rings. He picks it up and says " Commissioner Castillo". "Hey commish, this is the station manager at KSB". "Rumor has it you are looking for a lunch date, now what would your wife think of that?" Cruz replies back " that I have impeccable taste, glad you got my message Eden" They share a laugh.
They meet at the Orient Express for lunch and reminisce about their upcoming anniversary. In a few short days it will be twelve years, can you believe it Eden says. " Well, it was a long and winding road, but the best is yet to come" Cruz replies.
What Cruz and Eden don't know is that Chip and Adriana, who are now 13 and 11, have planned a very special celebration for their parents anniversary, with the help of their grandparents CC, Sophia, Rafel and Carmen. They have put together a surprise party at Pebble Creek, and what a surprise it will be….
Cruz and Eden are talking about their plans for a romantic getaway after the twins' birthday party. CC sees them eating lunch and joins them. He insist they attend a family gathering up the coast to celebrated Capwell enterprises 50th year in business, which, coincidentally is on the same day as their anniversary. Cruz tries very gallantly to back out, but CC won't hear of it. He says the car will be at the house around 6 to pick you up and just be ready. Eden tries to convince him they really can't on that day, considering it's their anniversary and the twins' birthday, but CC insists they can celebrate all of this together. Cruz and Eden reluctantly give in, and Cruz says they can only stay a short while. CC flashes a smile and says we will see son. Cruz and Eden look at each other..
Later at the house, Eden tells Cruz she is concerned about Chip and Adriana. They are being very quite, like they are hiding something she says. Cruz brushes it off as being a teenager, and he comments about how much Chip reminds him of himself at that age. Eden says he certainly got his father's looks, with the exception of his blue eyes. "Well, Adriana is a carbon copy of you Cruz replies, even that famous stubborn streak of yours" Eden says" Let's just hope Gabrielle and Hope inherit a balance of both of us" They laugh then kiss…
Well, the big day has arrived. Eden wakes up and is a bit queasy. She chalks it up to stress and the excitement of the day. Cruz hands her a bouquet of cockscombs and says happy anniversary darlin. They toast their day over a glass of orange juice. The kids come in with their anniversary present for their parents; a beautiful framed family portrait. Cruz and Eden are touched by the gift, and they say they are blessed to have such wonderful children, and they have a family hug….
Gabrielle and Hope celebrate their fifth birthday at the beach in a carnival like setting, complete with clowns, ponyrides and Grandpa Mago doing a magic act.
The party winds down and Cruz and Eden get dressed for CC's bash. The phone rings and it's for the kids. They get word all their guests have arrived. Cruz and Eden ask them what they are up to, but being Cruz and Eden's kids, they play dumb. They wish their parents a happy anniversary, and get ready to go to a "friend's" house.
Eden is still feeling queasy, and Cruz notices it and asks if she is sure she is ok? She smiles and lovingly reassures him she's just fine. He says I know that look, you are trying to decide if you should tell me something. " Oh no you don't, no hints, no clues, very shortly you will find out she smiles" "OK, but I will get it out of you darling" he replies. She kisses him and finishes getting ready…
The Limo comes to pick them to go to their given destination. While they are in the limo everyone gathers at Pebble Creek. Chip and Adriana have pulled off the best surprise ever. They have invited long lost friends and relatives such as Pearl, Cain, Carmen, Ric, Kelly, Mason, Julia, Samantha, Brick, Johnnie, and Cruz's great uncle Giamaro….
The limo driver pulls off the road saying there is a problem with the engine. He steps out and comes back and says he has arranged for them to get a ride the rest of the way in a van. Eden is reluctant to go, but Cruz checks it out and it appears safe, so they get in the back of the van, which has no windows to proceed on their way…
They finally reach Pebble Creek, but the kids are standing outside the van and insist their parents be blindfolded before the are let out. Cruz and Eden ask them what is going on and why the two of them are here. They say it is a part of their surprise and just put the blindfold on. They do and are helped out of the van and lead inside. Everyone is hiding when they get in. They are allowed to remove the blindfold to a roaring surprise. They are totally taken aback by this amazing gift….
There is one more surprise that nobody knew of other than Chip and Adriana. They have arranged for the same minister that married Cruz and Eden to officiate over them renewing their vows. Pearl insists they have to do this, since he missed their big day the first time around. Cruz says only if you are my groomsman…..
Everyone is gathered off to prepare for the wedding. While Eden is getting dressed in the same gown, she is visited by Amelia. They discuss the first time Eden wore the gown, and Eden convinces her to renew her love for the Captain at the same time. Meanwhile, Cruz also has a special visitor, the captain. He says to Cruz you can't forget these and hands him some wild flowers. Cruz laughs and says how nice it is to "see" him again.
The ceremony begins with Gabrielle and Hope scattering flowers up the isle. Kelly, Julia, Samantha, and Carmen are Eden's bridesmaids, with Adriana being her maid of honor. Mason, Ted, Ric, Pearl, Cain, Brick, and Johnnie are Cruz's groomsmen, with the best man spot going to Chip. Cruz's uncle begins the ceremony by offering a blessing over them. Cruz and Eden start to renew their vows, but first thank their family and friends for the years of love and devotion they have given them. Cruz and Eden reaffirm their love by saying no matter who or what tries to come between them, their love is without any beginnings or endings and they will weather any storm that may come their way. Because they are the love of each other's life beyond eternity, and they kiss…..
Everyone heads back up to the Inn, but Cruz and Eden head to the cliffs and watch the captain and Amelia walk off hand in hand into the sunset. Eden and Cruz share a private kiss and she tells him she has a surprise of her own for Cruz. "You have noticed I have not been feeling too well today Eden starts". Cruz smiles and says yes with a twinkle in his eyes. "Well, in about eight months I should be fine Eden gloats". Cruz is thrilled and says I love you and Kisses her….
They head back to the Inn and everyone wants to make a toast to them. Eden says no champagne for her. CC says what kind of a celebration is it without champagne? Cruz whispers in Eden's ear that they should make an announcement. She agrees and they gather everyone around. "We have something special to share with you all Eden starts". Cruz finishes what Eden was saying by adding,"The Castillo family is about to get even bigger". Everyone is thrilled for them..
As the party goes on, the younger kids get a little restless and start to walk around the room. They see an odd-looking man watching but not interacting with the other guest. Against everything they were taught, they approach the man. Gabrielle starts by saying hi and asking if he is a friend of her mommy and daddy? The man smiles at them and says " Friend, well I guess you could say that, I've know your parents for a very long time, and I know they thought they would never see me again" Hope says "Why don't you come over then"? Maybe in a bit the odd man says. The girls are called back by Eden. She asks who that was they were talking to. Gabrielle replies "He said he was a friend mommy" Eden looks in his direction and he picks up a glass to her. On his hand is a ring with the letter K….
The Phoenix has risen again from the ashes…
