Chaya Tinterow (click for email) is a pianist, trumpeter, guitarist and singer who has been performing for over 35 years. He began his musical career at age sixteen while attending The High School For The Performing And Visual Arts in Houston, Texas. His father, Bobby Tinterow (click for webpage), was also a musician who was born in Galveston, Texas and showed talent on the violin at an early age. He won a scholarship to the Paris Conservatory at age sixteen. He returned to America and went to New York City where he performed with The New Friends of Music, the NBC Radio Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra. Bobby Tinterow later toured with the Tommy Dorsey and Artie Shaw Orchestras until returning to Houston where he performed with his own band and many orchestras until his death in 1984.

Chaya's professional career began at age sixteen at Astroworld Amusement Park in a variety of bands performing on trumpet, guitar and vocals. His excellence on the trumpet led him to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he was a member of the prestigious Recording Band, directed by Herb Pomeroy. He graduated Cum Laude in three years with a Bachelor of Music degree. While attending Berklee, Chaya also studied trumpet for two years with the legendary Carmine Caruso in New York City. Immediately following graduation, Chaya was asked to join the staff at the Berklee College of Music where he taught for one year.

After teaching college, Chaya went on the road and played trumpet for such performers as Joe Frazier & The Knockouts, Dennis Day, Sherman Helmsley, Barbara McNair, Demond Wilson, Jack Carter, Tiny Tim, The Marvelettes, George Jessel, Robert Goulet, Carol Channing, Marilyn Maye and Rodney Dangerfield.

Chaya then returned to Houston to form his own band. He's performed in such venues as Birdwatchers, Rosco's, Remington's Bar & Grill, Rockefellers, David's Brasserie, Steak & Ale, Hogan's, The Rusty Pelican, Rocco's, Cody's, Cleo's Twenty One, The Black Swan, The San Luis Hotel, The Hyatt West, Montesano's, Walden Yacht Club, Delmonico's, Stouffer's Presidente, The Confederate House, The Woodlands Country Club, Cafe Perrier, The Post Oak Grill, Tony's, Hessni's, The Adam's Mark and his own club Chaya Tinterow's Jazzery.

Chaya has also performed with The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Houston Pops Orchestra, Theatre Under The Stars Orchestra and The Houston Ballet Orchestra.

For three years, Chaya could be seen with his trio at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. For four years, he was the resident entertainer at the Warwick Hotel. For five years Chaya performed at Maxim's Restaurant and Piano Bar. Most recently Chaya performed for four years at Tony's Restaurant in Houston.
