Hornby introduced their Nord (Northern Railway of France) loco in the 1920s and made it up to WW2 in electric & clockwork power. An example of a toy based on a actual loco, but very much simplified, even to the extent of omitting a set of driving wheels! The Hornby loco has smoke deflectors fitted, the sketch shows the actual loco in earlier times when smoke deflectors had not been added.

Advertisement from Punch Magazine, December 1926. Hornby No.2 Tank loco with goods train, and No.2 Tender loco with Pullman Cars. These were clockwork powered locos.

Carette tram dated 1912. Hans Van Dissel collection.
